Take a Bow

katespadehairbow.jpgWould you rather get in the holiday spirit with a beaded, embroidered, sequined, primary-colored reindeer sweater or this?

Yeah, we’d choose the gold bow, too.

The Moment posted it yesterday and we’ve been feeling extra holiday cheer ever since. Kate Spade’s popped a gold bow on top of a shiny bobby pin and it’s the perfect way to turn your basic cocktail dress into a kitschy ensemble worthy of the most fashionable holiday party.

It’s part Blair, part Eloise, and though yes, it’s $45, we bet you’ll find a way to keep it relevant both now and when you’re sixty. And with a bow in your hair, you’ll be the best present in the room. (Sorry, we couldn’t resist.)

Leighton & Vogue Sitting in a Tree

leighton meester prabal vogue.jpgYesterday, Jared, as in Just, posted about the latest starlet to wear Prabal Gurung on the red carpet, Leighton Meester.

There’s something in there about rosettes and something about singing and even something about American Eagle Outfitters, but we can’t really get past the part where she’s out and about with Vogue’s Entertainment Editor Jillian Demling.

Leighton’s boyfriend, Carter Baizen, was also present, but she was with Jillian enough to get them written up as a threesome on gossip blogs which means they’re

a) New best friends.

b) Conducting interviews through a week’s worth of parties.

c) Scoping out possible cover outfits.

Either way, progress for Team Blair.

Streetwalker: Tres Jeune Fille Dans Paris

louisemainshot.jpgLouise Ebel, 24, Blogger

Got her: Having a bite on the Quai Malaquais, pre-Rick.

Stalked her: Have you seen her hair? Her headband? (ed. note. And just when we’d rejoiced in Dan throwing Blair’s down the stairs?) Her boots? The purse?

Shot her: Because she’s incorporated too many major trends. And yet, she fails to look like a fashion victim.

She said: “I love my headband, it’s by my friend, Madame Sal.”

We said: There’s a reason you’re the most photographed girl in Paris.

Mid-Day Snack

edandleightonforaskenquired.jpgBass Alert! We have yet to personally spy our fair Chuck in the ‘hood shooting this season. But thankfully Nylon offers up a scrumptious fix today in the form of a multi-image foreign ad campaign in their Korean edition, with Miss Waldorf of course. Man, we can’t wait for season 3 to start. {Nylon}

Carrie Bradshaw, The Sequel: SJP is back to shooting SATC, complete with a gold metal Chanel clutch. {Jezebel}

Renaissance Girl: Daisy Lowe talks W-burg, her jewelry line, why she likes to look like a china doll, and making toilets. {W}

Ugh. Just Ugh: You know how we feel about Megan Fox, so you can understand how this news makes us horribly distraught. Really, Mr. Armani? Really? {Fashionologie}

When Marchesa Met Tory Burch

blake and tory get buddy buddy.jpgWe’re one month and one day away from Gossip Girl’s season three premiere - can you feel it?

In today’s anticipatory news, Tory Burch and Georgina Chapman both went to Long Island City (that’s in Queens) to film cameos for a particular episode set to air on October 5th. No word on what they’re doing exactly, though if they’re both in the same episode we’ll go out on a wild limb and suggest the episode might revolve around Fashion Week.

More importantly what will they wear? Because if we were Tory Burch, no matter how much we love our tunics, we’d die to wear one next to Georgina Chapman in a Marchesa gown. Georgina, by the way, says she’s “a huge fan of the show,” which explains the uncredited, impossible piece Blair wore to prom last season.

In other GG news, Nacho Figueras, Argentine polo god and face of Ralph Lauren, guests in the premiere episode, just in case you hadn’t already cleared your calendar.

Enough Already, Bazaar

leightonmeesteragedforbazaar.jpgBeing a former magazine editor, and still a current magazine lover, I often get angry when I see things I once loved go sour. I already made it pretty clear how I felt about the pick-up paparazzi shot of Angelina Jolie that Harper’s Bazaar used on the cover.

And, forgive my rant, Glenda, but now I’ve got another gripe. Enough with the “At Every Age” shtick. Please. It seems like every single story in the magazine now has this age component.

Apparently even cover stories are no longer immune as Leighton Meester has been digitally aged on the inside pages. I’m happy that Leighton scored a big cover. But is this really the best idea to be had about what to do with her?

Spotted: Blair and Serena on Prince St.

blakeandleightononset7-9_edited-1.jpgThe streets of Soho were lined with people waiting for a Gossip Girl glimpse.

And we couldn’t have had better luck, walking up just as Blake and Leighton filmed a scene that found them sauntering up Prince St having a somewhat heated, though not entirely angry, discussion. A truck moved out of the way just as they stopped in front of the Karen Millen store and we were able to snag a pretty decent shot.

What do you think of Blair’s footwear? Of course, I’m totally obsessed with Serena’s maxi dress.

Enjoy the pic larger after the jump. We’ll swing by tomorrow and see if any of the boys join the set.

Another Reason We Love Our Neighborhood

gossipgirlpermit.jpgGuess where we’ll be Friday morning?

Broadway and Prince is right.

We love that the Gossip Girl cast is already back in action. Let’s just hope this is a Chuck/Blair scene.

That intersection is very NYU territory after all.

We’ll be sure to post any good pics we snap!

OMFG, The Kids Today

nycprepcastphoto6-24.jpegGiven our Gossip Girl obsession, I felt the need to weigh in on the situation that is NYC Prep, fashion news or not.

While I anxiously await Daily Intel’s highly specific (and sure to be hilarious) recap, I’ll just share a few quick thoughts.

I was obviously expecting an abundance of egregious behavior and inflated egos from these privileged youth…they were worse than expected. It was kind of nauseating to watch. Fictional romps on GG = good. Real kids acting like a-holes, not so much. Note: PC, sir, you are no Chuck Bass.

Plus, I was less than impressed by the clothing—which is supposed to be one of their “things”, yes? Personal shoppers do not a stylish girl (or boy) make. And Sebastian, really with the hair? We think Rolando could give you some serious advice.

Blair, Chuck, Serena, and even Little J would be so disappointed.

Fashion quote of the show for sure was from Jessie’s friend, Zoe: “I wear clothes that are less than $20 sometimes.” I don’t even have words…

Are these kids giving their private school counterparts across the country a bad name? Or just our fair city of New York? I, for one, have never been more proud of my public school diploma.

Yet, I know I will still watch every episode of this silly show. What does that say about me? Are you with me? Or are you a more culturally sound person?

Blair Waldorf: Marchesa Before Marchesa

dita beats blair.jpgSo I didn’t watch Gossip Girl last night. I don’t actually have a TV, slight problem, I know. But when my phone started buzzing with texts from former Fashionistas, I knew I’d missed something major.

Apparently, Blair had been keeping a prom scrapbook under her bed for a very, very long time filled with creepy sketches of her and Nate at the big dance. In one such sketch was a dress and that dress was Marchesa Spring 08, the one Dita Von Teese wore to 7th on Sale almost two years ago.

Which should mean that Blair dreamed up the black and gold embroidered poof before Keren and Georgina even hooked up. And of course the dress in the sketch turned into the dress in real life (thanks to Chuck apparently? thanks to Natalie for ruining the end?) without a single mention of Marchesa.

Wonder what Harvey Weinstein’ll say about that?

C is for Costumes, Character Assassination

scene from upcoming gossip girl small.jpgA note on costume selection:

We happen to love watching shows where the on-set stylist clearly cares about everything the characters wear - this is a big reason for the success of SATC with fashion fans everywhere, needless to say.

But we also get kind of upset when the stylist steps out of the reality created within the show, and chooses something the character would not be caught dead in if she were really real.

This week on the fashion favorite Gossip Girl, it was the purple halter dress gasped at around the world, as seen on Vanessa who would clearly be far too proud to wear anything so Vegas. On an upcoming episode is Blair’s ensemble, above, in which she wears Uggs, which we assume means the entire UES is going to be overtaken by Ice-nine, making Blair want to play a joke on god for her final hurrah.

Even though this landed in our Inbox with the clear sentence “photo taken while filming,” we’re secretly hoping this is somehow just a shot taken on set where everyone looks like they’re acting but they’re really just between scenes - because really, we just want a little consistency in our sartorial fiction.

Leighton Lands Reebok

leighton meester rocks her reeboks.jpgWell, Leighton Meester finally landed an ad campaign.

It’s not Marc, it’s not Miu Miu, in fact it’s nothing we really care about which is painful since we really care about Leighton.

She’s the new face of Reebok.

And not the way Agyness was the new face of Reebok, not just a passerby at a party who happens to be wearing Reeboks, there’s proof this time.

She shot the ads in New York on Saturday morning, with short brown hair and an outfit that would make Blair Waldorf cringe and Jenny Humphrey jump for joy.

The funny thing is, no one on Gossip Girl actually wears sneakers.

Monday Night Hairball

blair waldorf headband on lauren conrad and lauren conrad side braid on blair waldorf its a topsy turvy hair world.jpgMaybe it’s because I’ve just returned from a long weekend in the country, or maybe it’s because I’m particularly eagle-eyed when it comes to hair, but did anyone else notice last night’s prime time hair switch?

First, I watched Blair Waldorf help save a young girl from 1 Oak sporting a side braid more reminiscent of Lauren Conrad’s cool-California girl style than her usual UES stiff. And that was funny and fine.

But then I noticed Lauren Conrad sporting a black headband (and was that a bow on it? Tilted to the side?) more reminiscent of Blair Waldorf’s uppity signature look, which always makes me think of Shannon Doherty in Heathers.

An intentional Monday night hair swap? Or an East Coast / West Coast hip-hair rivalry?

You know we doubt it’s either, but it’s just so fun to say shit like that.

Adventures in Closet Inspiration: Rose Bowl

kate moss must have loves blairs dress for lilys wedding.jpgKate Moss has famously made a bundle off of reappropriating designs from her closet for the masses of young girls that love her style.

So we were kind of surprised when we saw one of her latest re-designs, the Rose Puffball dress, which looked oddly familiar.

Does Kate, just like her young girl fan base, take her style cues from the infamous Blair Waldorf?

Maybe it’s a fluke (ok, you know we don’t really think that), so watch out for bows and headbands if you need further proof.

Quote of the Day

“That tights aren’t pants?!” - Blair, reprimanding a crying underclassmen (and sending a cryptic message via prime time to Lindsay), over her front steps outfit of choice, on last night’s Gossip Girl.

If The Gossip Girls Were Designers…

gossip girl shoes.jpgEventually, one of the Gossip Girl stars will design some kind of line. Our money’s on Blake being the first, but until then, here’s a sneak peek of what those designs would probably look like -

Blake, Leighton, and even Michelle, have all designed shoes for Stuart Weitzman’s Annual Celebrity Shoe Auction, and so far, Blake’s candy-themed kicks (no doubt courting comparisons like “sweet” and “confectious”) are going for the highest of the three at $300 - Leighton’s in the middle and Michelle’s on the right.

No doubt none of these girls would wear any of these designs (though we bet Georgina would sport Michelle’s metal star ones), but that’s really besides the point.

In other celebrity/designer news, everyone’s tickled that Ashley Olsen’s designing a menswear line for The Row, launching as soon as next Fall. We’re hoping - and willing to bet - that it’ll still be worn by more girls than guys. We definitely see little Grey Ant-style vests and loose trousers in their very near future…

Now We Know Who “M.K.” Is

tinsley on gossip girl.jpgHere’s a little story from the Fashionista table:

The other day, we were tipped off that Gossip Girl was filming on Grand Street between Mott and Bowery. So we stopped by on the way home, only to turn right around upon meeting a throng of paparazzi clogging every street corner.

But on our way, we noticed that whoever’s in charge of assigning trailers did the same thing we’ve noticed every time we walk past a GG set - they keep putting the actor’s real names on the doors, so Ed lovers can stand in front of Ed’s trailer, and Leighton lovers know exactly from which trailer door she’ll appear. So imagine our shock when right next to the trailer marked “Tinsley” was another marked “M.K.”

MK? The only MK we could think of was obviously Mary-Kate, but we’re pretty sure Gossip Girl doesn’t really fit with her vibe, not to mention that nobody writes her nickname with those periods in between her initials.

So WWD solved our little mystery for us this today - looks like Michael Kors is set to appear in an upcoming episode centering around Fashion Week.

And there you have it.
