Project Bluefly

leannemarshallandbluedress.jpgLast season on Project Runway, the nice girl finished first, and Leanne Marshall is still producing, now in a collection with Bluefly.com that becomes available July 8th.

The line is Leanne Marshall for Bluefly (she used to design under the name Leanimal, but has now made the permanent switch to her full name) and contains seven pieces total. The look is definitely similar to what she showed at the Bryant Park finale—whimsical and pretty with layering and scalloped details.

One of the first differences I noticed though: more color! Two pink day dresses (both under $300) and a tunic that comes in either blue or pink, for $98. She attributed the color infusion to her floral inspiration, opposed to her water-inspired Project Runway collection.

Mid-Day Snack

gg circa 1984.jpgNiiiiice: Ikram just ordered a sold out white Margiela tux, allegedly for the first lady, which might push poor Oscar De La Renta over the edge. {FlyPaper}

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: Just in case you weren’t going to watch Gossip Girl tonight, on top of the prom there’s an 80’s flashback or two. One costume includes the Givenchy pumps we want, um, now. {WWD}

Smell This: One of the reasons we avoid 5th avenue like the plague is our impatience with super slow tourists. The other? You smell like Abercrombie cologne from like a mile away. So this is just awesome. {Racked}

Stolen Crush: Karl gets all the cool girls — now he’s directing a short film with Lara Stone and we’re super jealous. {Fashionologie}

Jill Stuart Hearts Model Names

jill stuart behati blouse.jpgJill Stuart, like many designers, has been known to name her bags after models.

So far, she’s made The Gemma, The Freja, and even a Calista (ok, maybe they’re not all models.)

But now, she’s doing it with shirts, too.

Witnessed this weekend while shopping: a few different blouses all named The Behati, also seen on Bluefly, at left.

And there you have it.

But we think we would have preferred a super skinny clutch.

Bluefly, Revlon: What’s Going On?

revlon flair perfume.jpgThe other day, a Fashionista friend that works in finance told us, “I think Bluefly might be going out of business soon.”

We shrugged.

Today, he told us, “I think Revlon might be going out of business, too.”

So we asked, “What’s making you say this?”

He gave us a really finance-y response, that went something like this:

“Their stock is trading at an all time low, and the company has been in a free fall since last June. Typically when stocks trade below $2/share, they’re deemed very high risk. Revlon needs the reverse stock split to maintain minimum price requirements maintained by the New York Stock Exchange - it’s kind of a mask for their financial problems. They’re planning to report first quarter 2008 results on May 1, so things need to look good. Hence, the reverse stock split. It’s kind of a last ditch effort before you go bankrupt.”

So what’s going to happen to Elle MacPherson’s contract? And where would all of Bluefly’s merchandise end up?

Kate’s Bag For Grabs

ysldowntowntote.jpgWe haven’t been on Bluefly in awhile.

It usually takes too long to find something good and by then, it’s still too expensive, ie this gorgeous Prada clutch.

But we logged on today, clicked on YSL and found this bag. You know, the one Lily Allen carted everywhere just a month ago and the one Kate Moss has been carrying for at least a week.

We always thought the products on Bluefly ended up on there because no one was buying them, and even then, not less than a year after they leave actual stores. Are we wrong?

The good news is, if you want Kate’s bag for less than retail, you don’t have to wait for it to go on sale.

The bad news? It’s still $1,500.00 - and you know Kate paid $1,500.00 less than that.

Ebates is awesome.jpgWhat kind of friends would we be without letting you in on some of our coolest finds?

When Jazzi told us she’s been using a website called Ebates to get paid for shopping online, we were like, “Whatever” but after hearing her out, we thought, “Woah! this could really add up.” If you’ve heard of it, you love it, and if you haven’t, allow us to explain:

1. It’s basically a shopping savings account that very simply gives you back money for shopping. Most websites make money for referring you, but Ebates just shares the wealth.

2. All you have to do is sign up (10 seconds max), then shop directly at some of your favorite stores through a link on the Ebates website.

The hardest part is remembering to go through the Ebates when you feel like shopping, but they even have a “reminder tool” for that, so we’ve got zero complaints. And the perks? Well, money for shopping and referring friends, no spam, a lot of shopping options (sorry, no Net-a-Porter), plus you get a $10 gift card just for signing up. And the best part? More shopping, less guilt.

So if you feel like shopping on the likes of Nordstrom, Shopbop, Bloomingdale’s, Old Navy, Saks, Target, Zappos, Bluefly and YOOX - to name a few - at least make some cash doing it for, you know, more shopping.

We seriously just made $39.00 on some relatively small purchases we would have made anyway. Maybe it really is magic…
