Bangle Brights

topshopwovenbanglebracelet.jpgI didn’t go to camp when I was younger, but if I had I probably wouldn’t have been able to fashion anything like this fabulous woven bangle from Topshop.

We’re not always the brightest of dressers but this baby could add a nice pop to our ensembles. And we have been totally feeling the whole arts and crafts vibe lately (Abby and Britt are rocking their knot bracelets with pride) - so this is right up our alley.

The bangle is only $30, and bound to make you smile when you see it dangling on your wrist.

Zip Codes

zipperbanglebracelet.jpgExposed zippers are everywhere. Adorning everything from leggings to shoes, to the 3.1 Philip Lim dress Kate Bosworth rocked way back in December.

And now we’ve found what Abby deemed the “ultimate exposed zipper” in this amazing bangle from Nasty Gal.

It’s simple, and serves up the perfect amount of rock and roll. It’s chunky, but the cool design of the zipper’s teeth keep it from being too heavy-looking.

We are addicted to layering bracelets, and at only $12 it is certain that this baby will be dangling from our arms in no time.

So Knot Boring

bracelet.jpgWe have trouble with bracelets.

The perfect one is hard to come by. It can’t be too big or too heavy, or else you have to take it off all the time. It can’t be on everyone else’s wrist, because that’s just boring. And it has to work perfectly from day to night, because that’s just the way of our wardrobe.

Luckily, this set of bangles by Jennifer Rose meets our rigid bracelet criteria. They come in both yellow and rose gold, either of which will work perfectly with Spring’s neutrals - they’d compliment Givenchy’s nudie frocks quite nicely.

If only they came in silver for the days we’re feeling more Alexander Wang than Tisci.

Oh, and did we mention they’re on sale?

Adventures in Copyright: Sweater Bangled

yarborough vs old navy for sweater bangles.jpgWe were just alerted to something rather annoying happening on the Old Navy site:

They’re selling sweater bracelets, which Yarborough’s been doing since forever.
We’ve seen Yarborough’s (right) in person a ton of times - The soft wool stretched in perfect arcs all up an arm make even the least tactile of jewelry fans want to reach out and pet each one. But Yarborough’s sweater bangles go for about $45 each, and Old Navy’s churning out copies (albeit, much less chunky / fluffy ones, and we’d bet they’re not nearly as soft), at $7.50 a pop, which makes it pretty hard for Yarborough to compete with the look she came up with.

Of course, you could probably make one with an old sweater and a cheap resin bangle for under $2, but that’s a completely different post..

Would You Wear

Would You Wear a Dangle?

a dangle.jpgAfter receiving a pair of Disney Couture bracelets as a gift last month, Faran had to come up with a new word for them: Dangles.

See, they’re almost bangles, except they’ve got a crazy Tinkerbell charm hanging off the side - and therefore, off your arm.

Similar Dangles were spotted at Betsey Johnson, at Chanel, and at Juicy Couture, but is this cool, or just - gasp - slightly tacky? We couldn’t help thinking about those little old ladies at casinos wearing big gold bracelets with those little chain clasps that hang on their arms.

Then again, we also couldn’t stop thinking about Nicole Richie.

Ultimately, Faran decided she couldn’t deal with the Dangle - but when she offered the bracelets up to her friends, everybody pounced. Would you have, too?

kenneth jay lane topshop bracelets.jpgReader Jade sent in these very similar bracelets.

One’s Kenneth Jay Lane ($220), inventor of the strawberry charm necklace seen everywhere in Soho about a year ago. The other’s Topshop (a little under $50), with which we’re all familiar.

We know one bracelet features an elephant and the other a lion, but the choice of turquoise, gold and safari animal heads make this too coincidental a trifecta to ignore.

Is it terrible that we actually like the one from Topshop way better?

Got Her: At the Tommy (Dad) Hilfiger Men’s Presentation.

Stalked Her: Because we wanted to know if she was really shorter than Natalie.

Shot Her: Because black and white and fringed all over is our idea of a good time.

She Says: “The bracelet is an ancient Indian tradition, and every time it gets cut or falls off I retie it 6 times and say a prayer each time. It provides protection against everything.”

We Say: “Tie her up, tie her down, we love her either way.”

life charm.jpg If you need another heap of bangles to add to your stack, here’s a good stash of them:

The Alex and Ani bangles called “Charms 4 Life.”

The set of four metal bracelets come with Chinese peony symbols carved into them, and cost $32, with proceeds going to prevent cervical cancer among women.

Because it’s always fun to have something before Mary Kate Olsen, aside from occasional bouts of sanity.

Fashion Is Fun

“I’m Creative Because I’m Wearing Bracelets”

Those of you asking for more Girls Gone Styled episodes should get ready:

We’re filming the first bits of next season tomorrow (!) and there will be lots of adventures in store, including a Heatherette studio visit, a tutorial from a top model (she looks great in a bikini and that’s your only clue), and a brand new co-host, Paper fashion babe Quinn Asteak.

Meanwhile, Atoosa Rubenstein asked if I’d talk about fashion for her Alpha Kitty series, and although I can’t say “Alpha Kitty” without a low laugh (the same kind I’d make in middle school when someone said “boner”, weirdly), it’s a great series and it was a total honor and a total blast to be filmed.

Enjoy, and then watch some babes with way better hair - Taylor Warren (model), Byrdie Bell (Vogue crush), Jen Steele (Miss Seventeen!), and Andre J (French Vogue crush)- do their video confessions below!
