Is the New: Brad/Angie & Nicole/Gwen

brad and angie for asprey.jpgBrad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are celebrity designers now.

They’ve been working on a capsule collection for Asprey for a year, which means that in between UN conferences, orphanage visits in Africa and raising however many children they have, the not-human couple found time to design a $525 baby spoon.

Their line, which aside from the baby spoon includes pave diamond snake rings, earrings and pendants, is called The Protector and inspired by snakes, or more specifically a non-Asprey snake ring Angelina wore while pregnant with her first child.

Brad and Angelina are still super humans though, so all net profits from The Protector will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict which helps, “children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place — to just be children.”

Man Pants

bonobosturqs.jpgOne of the first things that crosses my mind when I see Brad Pitt or George Clooney is “Those guys sure know how to wear a pair of pants.” Seriously.

Some girls look to the hands but I guess you could say I’m a pants girl. I love a man in nicely fit pair. But of course most people aren’t operating on Clooney/Pitt budgets or getting custom fit by Tom Ford. At least not my friends.

So when I noticed what I thought to be a rather perfect pair on a guy friend recently, I was expecting to hear that they were super expensive. But no, he tells me. They’re this newish line Bonobos. The fit was great, without being too high fashion for some of the boys I know. And the butt, very nice.

They’ve got cords, twill, pinwale, wool and seersucker with prices from $98-$188. Plus there are shorts and a just launched swim line (retailing for $58.) And there’s color—which has been known to scare off some unadventurous males.

Embrace it, gentlemen, embrace it. In the form of a good pair of pants.

Who Made VF’s List?

carlabrunisarkozyandnicolassarkozy.jpgThe Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List has always somewhat baffled me. Maybe baffled isn’t quite the right word, but I’m always amused by what a mixed bag it is.

Of course, I don’t expect it to be a straight-up list of fashion folks, as that doesn’t truly represent the people covered regularly in VF. But man, do they throw in some random curveballs.

This year is no exception. Not surprisingly, both Michelle and Barack Obama (dad jeans, notwithstanding, I guess) make the list along with a smattering of royals, other world leaders, and their spouses. Think Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Sheikha Mozah of Qatar.

The fashion crowd is represented by Natalia V. and husband Justin Portman, Rachel Roy, Georgina Chapman, Tory Burch, and Franca Sozzani (love!), among others. On my questionable list is Stacy Bendet’s “Hello Kitty meets Joan Jett. Randomness” personal style. She’s a choice that makes me go…hmmmm.

It’s That TIME Again

tom ford and stella mccartney.jpgTIME Magazine loves their lists.

They’re already working on the 100 Most Influential People of 2009, and for the first time they’re letting readers get in on the voting process.

In the Best Designer category, they’ve lumped together fashion, art and architecture - though the latter two categories include Renzo Piano, Damien Hirst, Rem Koolhas and Takashi Murakami, all of whom have serious fashion cred.

The actual fashion designers on the list include Stella McCartney and Tom Ford, though we wonder if Stella’s influence comes more from her commitment to veganism than necessarily pushing fashion forward. As for Tom Ford, he’s influenced Brad Pitt and caused a toe-sucking uproar, but hasn’t necessarily started a fashion revolution this particular year.

Granted, it’s unusually early in the year to pick the most influential designer of 09. Bu given the season we’ve just seen, who would you pick?

The Pitt for Kiehl’s

brad pitt and kiehls.jpgWhat do you get when you add half of Brangelina to one of the many (probably) amazing Kiehl’s products?

A gold mine.

But don’t say that to Kiehl’s - They’re newest partnership with Brad Pitt has nothing to do with his celebrity or his handwriting on the bottles of their Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser, and everything to do with Make It Right, Pitt’s organization which funds the construction of environmentally sustainable and affordable housing for victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

The cleanser is 100% Cradle to Cradle certified, meaning that if you dug a hole, dumped the whole bottle in, and left it, the whole thing would be biodegraded within 28 days (sort of).
100% of the profits will go to Make It Right.

Look for the cleanser in stores this October, but not a Brad Pitt bottle signing - this is serious!
