Color Us Freaked Out…And Confused

brooksbrothersbook.jpgSo it’s not the newsiest of days in the fashion world, but even if we were slammed, I would have to find time to write about the book that just arrived at the office.

We get lots of random press releases, etc around here, but children’s books with a fashion angle…not so much. Until today.

I opened the package to find Tales from Brooks Brothers: Introducing Henry’s Unsuitable Adventure. The premise is a little bit Mannequin meets From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, except creepier and for little kids.

Children’s books are all about the message like learning to share or making new friends. Apparently this one is about indoctrinating the youth of America with a love of Brooks Brothers.

Janie Bryant’s Branching Out

betty draper janie bryant.jpgWe’ve had a crush on Janie Bryant since the first episode of Mad Men three summers ago - even if it took us half way through the season to learn anything about the costume designer behind the show’s exquisite look.

Since then, she (and the show) have influenced everything from Halloween costumes to Michael Kors’ runway. She works with Brooks Brothers to make Don’s custom suits, which the rest of the world can buy as of Tuesday, but she’s finally about to make her very own leap into the world of fashion.

Instead of launching her own line, which she’ll do eventually, she’s going to start with different licensing projects, putting her time and energy into guest collections so that she can still work on the show.

Save Eleanor Waldorf

eleanor waldorf fashion show.jpgIf you, like us, only head toward Times Square/Port Authority for very, very special occasions - here’s one.

Save Fashion’s third week, May 15th through 22nd is devoted to the best of men’s: Acne, Band of Outsiders, Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers, Earnest Sewn, Inhabit, Rag & Bone, Rogan, Rogues Gallery and Steven Alan.

But then Abigail Lorick moves in and brings Eleanor Waldorf with her. You’ll have a chance to buy the clothes from the Eleanor Waldorf Fashion Show episode of Gossip Girl which means you won’t just have a one-off, but a one-off from the same runway Serena walked and Blair pitched a fit over.

Meanwhile, will Lorick for Little J for Eleanor Waldorf be there? Find out Friday May 22nd.

Would You Wear

Would You Wear (Faux) Boxers?

boxers we want, we love.jpgWhen Vivienne Westwood sent a model down her SS09 runway in those Union Jack shorts, we felt like we needed fancy boxers.

Then Teen Vogue featured ruched cotton shorts in a March editorial. They came in striped blues and reds, like bloomers, but with nothing over them. The credits listed Brooks Brothers so we went to the store and scoured the site until we realized the models were just wearing men’s boxers probably sewn by a handy Conde intern.

And today we saw these Current/Elliot shorts on Shopbop - basically fancy boxers even if they’re called “distressed denim.”

But we found a pair of pre-sewed-to-look-like-bloomers this weekend and no matter what we tried them on with - silk tank, plaid button down, white t-shirt - they still just looked like boxers. And while we’ll wear pretty much anything at least once and we obviously work in an office lacking any sort of dress-code, the idea of going out in men’s underwear just feels awkward, no?
