Fashion Hijacks Your TV

carine and anna.jpgIf you haven’t had your fill of Fashion TV, haven’t been satisfied with copious model interviews and backstage videos of Fall 09 Fashion Month and the return of Blair Waldorf’s Monday night headbands wasn’t enough for you, don’t worry, the TV gods are on the lookout.

This morning marked Carine Roitfeld’s television debut, but since no one seems to know exactly when the CNN International profile will be airing, times are listed all over the place, and not everyone gets CNN International, we’d suggest watching it on-line.

But save it for Saturday and devote your entire day to fashion. Start with the premiere of House of Style at 3pm. According to Erin Fetherston’s Facebook page she’ll be rounding out the Chanel Iman/ Bar Rafaeli trifecta. Then watch Carine’s profile. Take a break before heading over to Film Forum on Houston to catch Valentino: The Last Emperor at 8pm.

And if that doesn’t satiate your fashion appetite, we suggest Barneys.

Quote of the Day

“It’s a bit like for an actor. Do you want to go to Hollywood or do you want to stay here in Paris and do the cinema I like to do? I think I prefer to stay here in Paris.” - Carine Roitfeld, on why she would never take Anna’s job, to CNN.

Carine to CNN

carine roitfeld at her very anna looking desk.jpgBecause there weren’t enough camera crews at Fashion Week already, CNN has decided to follow around Carine.

Cinematically mirroring Anna Wintour and her own 60 Minutes bio, Carine’s being filmed for CNN’s Revealed, which should air starting March 18 (full schedule after the jump).

We guess America really wants to know more about fashion’s most famous editors, but what will be most interesting, is how CNN discusses Anna, and 60 Minutes discusses Carine - because you know it’ll happen.

CNN: Rap on the Wrap Dress

dvf.JPGIn case you didn’t get enough of Diane Von Furstenberg in her Amex commercial, CNN has you covered.

Tomorrow night, on Revealed, DVF will spill her soul about how she will be forever associated with the wrap dress, the Wonder Woman project and, if we’re lucky, secrets about secret CFDA projects.

The super fun part though is CNN’s call for testimonials about buying a 70’s era wrap dress and how much it means to you. So if you love your jersey frocks and want to express your love to Diane (the best ones will go on the air) leave a message on CNN’s Facebook, or email them at revealed@cnn.com.

And more importantly, tune in online to watch Revealed, or find out when you can watch it on TV.

Best Part? The copy refers to her as a German Socialite - wonder what she’d say about that.

Mall Rats Down, Mall Meltdown?

another mall picture.jpgCNN reports some rather disconcerting information:

General Growth Properties, the second largest mall operator in the country, may file for bankruptcy soon. GGP is responsible for the operation of around 200 malls in the US, including the Paramus Park Mall right outside of the city.

If the company does end up tanking, then a.) another mall operator will buy up its old malls and everything will be normal for the shoppers and retail workers, or b.) their malls will cease to exist, since GGP isn’t the only mall operator facing tough times.

We have no idea where most people in suburbs would shop if the malls started to shut down, but then again, we guess nobody’s really shopping. But what about the countless people who’ve worked in retail all their lives? If their local mall disappears, will their local Target (if they have one) get flooded with thousands of job applications?

Our advice (which we never thought we’d give): If you live near a mall, go shop. As long as it’s not at the Bebe, please.

Nine West Gets Comfy With New Balance

nine west and new balance.jpgIt looks like your favorite Nine West pumps might be getting just a little more comfortable come spring.

Nine West is teaming up with New Balance in a collaboration to produce active fashion footwear for Spring 09.

We’re predicting cute ballet flats and not-so-high stilettos - kind of like the look for less blisters.

The two are collaborating in both design and marketing but New Balance is slated to provide the materials while Nine West brings their good looks.

As long as this doesn’t mean a batch of sneaker wedges or performance peep toes, we’re all for cute shoes that feel good - so long as Nine West stays away from knock-offs.

Make Clothes for Barbie

blonde barbie.jpgSomething a lot of people don’t realize is that designers really don’t make that much money, especially when they’re starting out, and it pretty much stays that way except for the Donnas and Marcs of Seventh Ave.

And because we know there must be hordes of recent Parsons and FIT grads looking for jobs this month (or maybe you’re still looking for a job from last year, because seriously, it happens), consider this fact:

According to CNN, clothing designers for Barbie and Bratz make around $62,000 per year, which is probably more than the Proenza Boys made in their entire career up until their Target deal.

So if you think Miuccia’s purposefully ignoring your e-mails, you could always come up with the next silhouette shift for Barbie Princess.
