Well, not exactly. But Simon Fuller, the mega branding mastermind who brought us the Spice Girls, American Idol, and Little Britain, among countless other projects and stars has just bought a 51% stake in London’s Storm Models.
The agency which represents Kate Moss, Jourdan Dunn, Lily Cole, Carla Bruni, and Cate Blanchett has been run by the brother/sister team of Sarah Doukas and Simon Chambers since it started in 1987.
Fuller tells Vogue UK: “With 19 moving more into the world of fashion and style, the opportunity to join forces with Storm and its incredible heritage and dynamic approach to the future, was irresistible. Together we can push the boundaries, blur the lines and redefine what a model agency should be in this fast moving world where fashion is playing an increasingly important role in setting and reflecting culture and tastes.”
As far as fashion goes, his backing of Roland Mouret seems to have worked out pretty well. We can only wonder what sorts of changes he has in store for the agency and its girls.
We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off fashion week than to watch our favorite girls strut down an eco-friendly, recycled wood runway at Earth Pledge’s FutureFashion show last night.
The show featured surprisingly ladylike looks from twenty-eight designers ranging from Marni to Versace. Each used sustainable, organically grown materials like bamboo, soybean fiber and even the leaves of wild pineapple plants.
Stam wore a very wearable Rodarte party dress; Coco rocked a 40’s coat dress from DVF; Irina wore Behnaz and the most perfect shoes we’ve ever seen. But it was Liya Kebede in vintage Moschino and Shalom Harlow in a gothic Margiela wedding dress who made our heads whip around for just one more look.
The studded peace silk suit by Givenchy made us gasp; the hemp and silk dress from Rogan made us wish the earthy designer made more dresses and less jeans, and we can’t wait for Donna Karan’s tea-stained sasawashi evening gown to make its red carpet debut. Cate Blanchett - can you abandon Balenciaga just once?!
If this is what environmental fashion looks like - count us in!
The first to really set things off was Cate Blanchett, who was photographed wearing thick black frames out to the theatre. Then, we saw Helena Christensen and Daisy Lowe sporting their own pairs, and when we spotted a bespectacled Chloe Sevigny, we knew this was officially a trend.
But how come we’ve never seen any of these ladies in glasses before? Did everyone just decide to ditch the contact lenses all in the same month? We think this could be true for some of them. But we think we’re on to the others’ secret: fake glasses.
We’ve actually known people who wear fake glasses on a daily basis. They say specs make them look smarter, kind of like when we wear wedges under long pants to look taller, or highlights to appear blonde.
We guess this could be just another accessory like any other. But there’s something about their false use that comes off as, dare we say it, poser-ish?
Would you wear fake glasses? And, more importantly, would you cop to it if anyone asked you if they were fake?
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
Meet Blue Logan, if you haven't already. A couple of years ago a friend dragged the soft-spoken Brit to a show at London Fashion Week, Aquascutum he thinks, and he started to draw the models as they walked down the... Read More
