America, America

obamasneaker[1].jpgHave you made plans for the Fourth of July yet? We hope you’re going to be catching some awesome fireworks or grilling out at a sweet barbecue. The American patriotic spirit has even gone global, thanks to Obama-mania.

The latest in the ever-growing category of Obama-inspired fashion (see: Rodarte for Sonia Rykiel) comes from Italian shoemaker Cesare Paciotti - an Obama Tennis Shoe. It’s very simple: a white sneaker emblazoned with the good ol’ stars and stripes.

We don’t mean to be anglophiles, but in the past if we thought about wrapping a flag around our bodies, we’d usually choose the Union Jack.

But now we’re thinking twice about it thanks to Cesare’s cool American look. While the president served as inspiration, the flag detail pretty much embraces the whole country.

So come the Fourth, let’s wave—and wear—our flags proudly.

Cat Holstein Rocks My Socks

Catherine Holstein.jpgI may as well stop going to shows now.

The only thing I want to wear next Spring is Catherine Holstein’s collection, though I don’t think I could manage the 6-inch Cesare Paciotti sandals that topped it off.

Her clothes, shown on the runway at Bumble & Bumble, were my idea of perfect. The show opened with blush pink dresses, shorts and tops paired with chunky brown belts and woven knit hats worn throughout. It took a slow turn toward nautical, not Trovata nautical, but the subtler nautical of faded navy and white stripes with touches of red and mustard. Then, toward the end of the show, Holstein did lace on her own terms, in an off-white, antique pattern - and very sheer.

Often times it feels like designers try to tell too many stories in one collection with piece-y results, but Holstein’s felt like parts of a greater whole.

As in, I want the whole thing - and judging by the looks on front row faces, I’m not the only one.

Ohne Titel Chooses Shoes

ohne titel shoes.jpgYes!

We knew it was in the works, but now it’s official:

The shoes the Ohne Titel girls designed for their show in September aren’t just being produced by Cesare Paciotti - they’re going to be sold by them, too!

So if you’ve always wanted to own a piece of their work, but haven’t been able to find them in stores, you’re in luck. You can scoop up the kicks at any Cesare shop.

They’ll debut exclusively on the models’ feet at Bumble and Bumble in September - in fact, nobody’s allowed to see them until the show, not even so much as a sketch. But we do know they’re “designed with a combination of matte leathers, bias silk and dry cotton cording” using “a combination of hand techniques with sportswear references.”

Here’s to hoping they’re as “hot” as we expect.
