Backstage at VS: Breakfast & Bras

doutzen pull vs09.jpg“Everyone just expects me to jump now. I think they just think I jump naturally, like put me in great shoes and I jump,” said Caroline Trentini backstage at the Victoria’s Secret show this afternoon.

“Will you ever not jump?”

“No! I mean, as long as people ask me to jump, I’ll jump!”

Once I got that all-important question out of the way, I ran around the room and asked a handful of our favorite girls two critical questions:

1. What’d you have for breakfast?
2. What are you wearing to tonight’s after party?

Chanel Iman said she ate eggs, bacon, potatoes, cereal and fruit. I would have said, “Don’t lie,” but I wasn’t in the mood to pick a fight with an angel and she followed with, “I think eating is sexy.” She wants to wear the Valli dress she wore down his runway, but if it doesn’t show up, she’s sure she can find something “super sexy to wear with my fabulous boots.”

Julia Stegner’s wearing Herve Leger, surprise! (There were two camps of girls, the ones wearing Herve and the ones specifically not wearing Herve because everyone else is wearing Herve.) She’s not a breakfast person, but “I had pomegranate seeds this morning! Only because I’m on antibiotics and I have to eat something.”

bloodbrooches_edited-1.jpgBloody Good: Those are $800 blood brooches. Ick, but they fit perfectly with our Halloween spirit today. But really how does one even think to design something like that? {The Moment}

Get Online: As the print world crumbles, new magazines continue to launch on the interwebs. We love that Glossy is put together bi-monthly by a group of 16-25 years. Impressive. {Issuu}

Bags of Becks: Well not exactly, but rumors are flying that Victoria Beckham will be adding handbags to her line. We hope that doesn’t mean she’ll stop carrying that ginormous Birkin we love so much. {ElleUK}

Yikes: Economist-types keep saying the recession is over, but I’m pretty sure the 540 people about to lose their jobs at Time Inc would beg to differ. God, we hope this stops soon. {NY Post}

It’s Official: Renzo Rossi finally confirms the long-believed rumor that Martin Margiela is not designing for the Maison. Apparently he’s “here but not here” which sounds to have just the right amount of mystery. {Vogue UK}

Back in Plaid: These shoes mark the return of the Burberry plaid. Are you ready for it, or is it still too soon for you? {Nylon}

The Season of the Nail: We haven’t seen this much chatter about nails in quite a few seasons. But we like it, because what’s easier or more fun to change than your nails. Plus for all you West Coasters there’s a rundown of great mani/pedi places in LA, including one of my personal faves, Recess. {LA Times}

Bam Bam

JEREMY SCOTT SS10 .jpgSomeone tweeted that they skipped yesterday’s Jeremy Scott show because they weren’t sure they could handle him so early in the morning.

You don’t really know what you’ll get with Scott, though bright colors and something giggle-worthy’s guaranteed, but this time he wasn’t just inspired by a particular pop culture icon, he actually sent the Flintstone family down his runway.

Pixie Geldof stood in for Wilma, Chanel was the perfect Bam Bam and Cole Mohr, well his barely there Speedo wasn’t exactly Fred-like, but he was still head of the house in his “Your Cave or Mine?” shirt.

Even more disturbing than the dude in a hot pink one-strapped Borat-like bathing suit was the amount of weight Daisy Lowe appears to have lost. Between her and Lara Stone’s new approach, we’re already lamenting the loss of a single curve on next season’s runways.

Things I Learned at DvF

DVFDiane Von Furstenberg and Blake Lively.jpg1. Security guards at the tents are meaner than ever this season.

2. This season’s cadre of Diane admirers included Blake Lively, Tina Brown, Candice Bergen, and every editor on the planet.

3. Diane needs a bigger venue and I have some serious personal space issues.

4. Safari prints and crochet will be worn this spring by many, many twenty-something girls investing in perhaps their first pieces by a proper designer.

5. DvF’s grandkids are ridiculously cute (seated between both their parents) and jumped up to give her a hug and flowers as she made her walk. I am dying to know what they call her, because you know it’s not Grandma.

6. My runway pictures were not so good—get thee to Style.com to see the clothes, but click through to see the models play with their hair for Jeremy.

Spring 2010 New York

On Today

satc sign.jpgWhen everyone in fashion gathers in one place, people talk. Here’s what they said today.

1. Becka Diamond for Nylon TV? The latest New York it girl’s been sitting front row at all the best (and by best I mean most fun) shows - Wang, Altuzzara, Ronson - and now we hear she’ll start hosting segments for Nylon TV. Phillip Lim, up first.

2. The Daily’s not-so-blind items. On day one they published an entire page of awful things done by fashion people and most of them couldn’t have been less subtle.

3. White girls and skinny girls. After a summer of talking about race and weight, the girls on this season’s runways couldn’t possibly be any skinnier. And aside from a couple of Chanel Iman and Sessilee Lopez sightings, we can honestly say they’ve never looked whiter.

4. Tonight’s Gareth Pugh ‘experience’ is sensorial. Apparently, it’ll be really hot inside, but you only have to stay for five minutes.

5. Sex and the City’s filming all over West Broadway tomorrow. So if the tents aren’t packed enough for you, head below Houston for increased fashion mayhem.

People Are Talking

Chanel & Tyra Take Your TV

chanel iman to antm.jpgChanel Iman’s been building that TV resume for over a year now.

First came MTV’s House of Style revival, than a guest appearance on Gossip Girl and then this (not quite TV) Modelinia video with Coco Rocha - but now we hear she’ll judge the next season of America’s Next Top Model.

We haven’t watched the show in a few years, but we’d tune in to hear an actual model tell maybe models what modeling’s actually like. Here’s hoping Chanel dishes some industry truths and wears some awesome outfits.

Hooray for the high fashion-ization of reality TV!

One Track Mind: Just how many models does it take to make one night of Fashion run smoothly? About 250 apparently. Coco, Lily, Chanel & two hundred and fifty others will be stationed around the city to make your night a little bit prettier. {ImaginarySocialite}

So Un-Vogue: There’s a scene in The September Issue in which Anna takes issue with the size of the cover font, hate to see what she’d do to the staff of Vogue Brazil for misspelling Guy Bourdin’s name on their September cover. {MadeInBrazil}

Chanel & Sessilee in Times Square

sessilee lopez shoots times square.jpgChanel Iman, Sessilee Lopez and Jourdan Dunn shot what they promised to be a “major” editorial in London last month.

We still don’t know where it’s going or what it’s for but the girls have been much more forthcoming since their return to New York. Yeterday, Chanel twittered that she was shooting an editorial with Peter Lindbergh and swore the pictures would be “collectible” while Sessilee Lopez posed for Ellen Von Unwerth in Milk Studios. Today, the two of them are working together in Times Square and Sessilee thinks you should stop by.

If you make it, we want to know who’s behind the camera and what the girls are wearing. Major bonus points if you send pictures!

Chanel’s Second Try, Tonight

chanel iman on the phone.jpgSince MTV’s attempt at reviving House of Style flopped and disappeared from memories in the course of thirty minutes, Chanel’s second try at becoming an official model/actress seems to finally be tonight, on her confirmed guest star appearance on tonight’s Gossip Girl, alongside other fashion-y folk like Leigh Lezark and Patrick McMullan.

So will Chanel be like a Georgina Sparks character, decked out in LA wares on the UES? Or will she simply play herself and maybe get a scene attracting the attention of Chuck at some point during Little J’s sweet sixteen?

We can’t wait to see, especially since whatever the girls on that show end up wearing gets blasted around the world the morning after - so who gets the coveted spot of Chanel Iman’s back on prime time?

PS If you’re looking for every spoiler under the sun, here you go - but we couldn’t bring ourselves to listen to the whole thing.

Chanel Iman: The Next Model Mogul

chanel iman in a turban tied with a belt.jpgNot only does Chanel Iman have an upcoming guest spot on Gossip Girl following her House of Style stint this weekend, but it looks like the Ford model’s planning a much longer career on sets instead of runways.

She told Fashionologie that she’s “kind of slowing down on the modeling” which would explain how she’s going to accomplish her earlier statements to Teen Vogue, that she wants to do “television, film, music and designing. I want to do it all!”

So is Chanel Iman the next model-business a la Heidi Klum? Maybe.

We would wonder aloud whether this new career path of hers has longevity, but considering that she was born in 1989, we’ll hold off.

Fashion Hijacks Your TV

carine and anna.jpgIf you haven’t had your fill of Fashion TV, haven’t been satisfied with copious model interviews and backstage videos of Fall 09 Fashion Month and the return of Blair Waldorf’s Monday night headbands wasn’t enough for you, don’t worry, the TV gods are on the lookout.

This morning marked Carine Roitfeld’s television debut, but since no one seems to know exactly when the CNN International profile will be airing, times are listed all over the place, and not everyone gets CNN International, we’d suggest watching it on-line.

But save it for Saturday and devote your entire day to fashion. Start with the premiere of House of Style at 3pm. According to Erin Fetherston’s Facebook page she’ll be rounding out the Chanel Iman/ Bar Rafaeli trifecta. Then watch Carine’s profile. Take a break before heading over to Film Forum on Houston to catch Valentino: The Last Emperor at 8pm.

And if that doesn’t satiate your fashion appetite, we suggest Barneys.

Cuteness Confirmed for HOS

chanel iman and the smile.jpgEarly reports naming Chanel Iman as Bar Rafaeli’s co-host for MTV’s revival of House of Style appear to be true.

We can’t imagine how she’s had the time between walking back-to-back shows in New York, London, Milan, and probably now Paris. (We bet Coco’s been giving her tips.)

Unless, of course, the first House of Style episodes revolve exclusively around backstage shots of Fashion Week - in which case, how does Bar figure into it?
