topshop loves chloe too.jpgEach and every time we see these Chloe multi-strap wedges we wince a bit and wish we’d had the courage to spend our tax return money on them instead of a new computer.

Chloe Sevigny’s been rocking the beige all summer and now Drew Barrymore’s traded in her festival grunge for the black version paired with cuffed skinny jeans.

Not wanting to feel left out, Topshop’s made their own. They’ve ditched the two inch wedge, silver oval buckles and $700 plus price tag in favor of a cone-shaped heel, gold rectangular buckles and a $120 tag. They’ve also eliminated an extra strap and offered their version in black and hot pink instead of the more neutral grey and forest green.

Unfortunately the Chloe version’s already sold out everywhere (trust us, we’ve looked), but that doesn’t mean you need the Topshop shoe. They won’t fool a soul.

Chloë’s Big Love of Fashion

00130m[1].jpgChloë Sevigny mentioned to style.com that she’d be interested in collaborating with a high-end company, voicing admiration for Sofia Coppola’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Now, we’ve loved Chloë since Kids and her intern days at Sassy, and think she has great personal style, but her collection for Opening Ceremony was…fine. The pieces she rocks best usually aren’t her own designs. So, I’m not sure why she should garner so much positive attention as a potential designer.

It’s not that I think actresses or singers or artists shouldn’t be able to try their hand at design (I too am loving the Sofia-designed Louis bag), but just because a gal (or guy) dresses well, doesn’t mean they should be invited into the fashion industry to run around like a kid in a candy shop.

Everyone cheers for Chloë but freaks out about Miley and Lindsay. The freak-outs are for good reason, no arguments here. But I’m also personally done with Chloë as fashion designer.

A Day on the Pitch

chloesevignyatpolomatch.jpgAfter the lovely afternoon we spent on Governors Island on Saturday, we’ve officially become polo fans. And also please sign us up for the Nacho Figueras fan club. We knew his face was dreamy from all those Ralph Lauren fragrance ads. Let us just say the real thing is unbelievably better.

You know how excited we were to don our hats and watch Prince Harry play.

And by the way, thanks to all of you who recommended The Hat Shop on Thompson. How I’ve missed popping in there over the years is beyond me but I found the perfect Chapeau Chateau fedora that worked for the match and will now become one of my summer staples.

The people watching at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Classic was a dream. The best dressed of the afternoon was certainly Chloe Sevigny in Chloe. And the cutest couple: Marc and Lorenzo, who was wearing checked shorts. (Madonna, Jesus Luz, and little David Banda joined them in the VIP tent later on. Oh, to have been at that table!)

It’s a Hit

julien and naomi .jpgJulien MacDonald used to be known at the UK’s answer to Bob Mackie - Naomi Cambpell or Geri Halliwell could be depended on to open and and close his shows with furs, feathers and sequins - which meant we were surprised when Jamey Hargreaves, one of the Matalan chiefs (think the U.K Target) handpicked MacDonald last year as a major investment.

The money came, of course, with the promise that MacDonald would deliver tamer collections, focusing on his knit and tailoring talents. And the results, unveiled last London Fashion Week were killer. Since then, buyers and editors have been fervently awaiting last Friday, the Welsh designer’s pre-order day, dying to claim their own crystal-detailed dresses, leather trousers and genius knits. Unfortunately, a handful of fashion favorite starlets beat them to the punch.

Chloe Sevigny’s already hand picked a bunch of key looks and Ashley Olsen’s pulled clothes for herself, as well as for her forthcoming Harper’s Bazaar shoot.

Which means this week - the same one during which Debenham’s named the leopard print dress from his diffusion line the fastest selling garment in the retailer’s history - is a good one for MacDonald.

It also means it’s about time his clothes gets stocked on your side of the pond.

Jeremy Scott for Ksubi. Take 5.

jeremys ksubi sunglasses.jpgThink pink and hearts. Now picture Ksubi jeans with a Jeremy Scott twist.

Whoa, right?

It’s Scott’s fifth collaboration for the Olsen-beloved Australian label, and there are enough skinny jeans and bustiers to dress the length of Bedford Avenue.

In fact, it looks suspiciously like Chloe Sevigny’s first Opening Ceremony collection but Scott has sunglasses, sunglasses we really want - especially the baby pink ones with tiny black hearts peppered across the frames.

The collection debuted with his runway show in September, but we’re sure you want close-ups. Scott clarifies, “The collection is inspired by the French Revolution and is parallel to today’s social, economic and political climate, hence I titled the show ‘Let Them Eat Gas!’”

Um, ok, sure. That’s totally the vibe we got, too.

Chloe Sevigny: Still Kickin

chloe sevigny for opening ceremony floral bustier top.jpgThere is life yet for Chloe Sevigny’s Opening Ceremony collection.

While on Topshop, we came across their new Post-War Precision collection (originally called the Valerie Collection, though we don’t know why they changed the name). Topshop describes it as “1950s pin-up styling with a rockabilly twist”, but between the checkered pieces, acid wash jean jacket and ditsy floral print dresses we thought “We Wish We Were Chloe Sevigny” would have been a more apt description.

Just take a gander at these high-wasted checked pants. Remind you of anything? We thought so. Similarily, this blouse by Topshop is almost an exact replica of one Chloe turned out for Opening Ceremony (although in the picture it’s shown in floral, Chloe also made one in basic white), one of the more wearable pieces of the collection. And these tiny floral printed shorts are very reminiscent of Chloe’s floral skirt. Topshop even went as far as a floral bustier, one of the more signature pieces from Chloe’s collection (ps. we’re still not sure who’s buying these). [Editor’s note: Natalie loves Chloe’s floral bustier!]

The Topshop stuff is actually really cute (thankfully, they stayed away from midriff baring tops) but our reaction was overshadowed by the same sneaking suspicion we had when we tried the items on last March in Opening Ceremony, or maybe it was last April and at Urban Outfitters. Either way, we’re wondering why, amidst less than positive reviews, the Sevigny collection has had such a strong influence on retailers.

Perhaps Chloe was on to something, but it’s a shame her designs are being copied more often than worn.

Catstalker: Sevigny Takes the Subway

chloe_l.jpg To: Natalie@Fashionista.com

From: BigLove@HBO.com

Spotted:

Chloe Sevigny heading uptown on the R train, looking so relaxed and chic.

She must have been shopping but I couldn’t see what was on the bag she had in between her feet.

Interesting that she’s in town, considering it’s campaign season.

She isn’t shooting anything right now…

Is she?

Urban Jumps on Chloe’s Bandwagon

chloe sevigny for opening ceremony.jpgFaran said, “Come to NYLON’s Chloe party!”

So I said, “Yay!” and naturally went looking for an outfit.

I stumbled in to Urban Outfitters, (I know, I know, but it’s right around the block from work) where I was overwhelmed by Chloe for Opening Ceremony deja vu.

There was an entire section that should have had a sign saying, “We wish Chloe Sevigny designed for us!!!” Floral camis hung from the racks, denim vests were layered over the mannequins’ outfits, flowy, ruffled skirts laid on tables and chunky black boots covered the ground below.

I thought, “Is there anything worse than wearing a rip-off of someone’s clothes to their own party?”

Nope. I turned on my heels and made something work from my own closet.

When I walked into the party and found myself amid a sea of Chloe perfume, I realized I’d mistaken the two Chloes.

But at least I know the difference between Chloe for Opening Ceremony and Urban as Chloe.

DIY an Adventure in Copyright, Oh My!

chloeeyetop.jpgWe’ve had a crush on this top since Chloe Sevigny wore it last September.

It’s flirty without being overtly sexy and would match our whole closet

But it fell off our radar until we noticed this “Eye Print Vest in the style of Chloe Sevigny” on the ASOS website - a British chain that prides itself on selling things “in the style of”. It’s a pretty bad copy considering the factories they have at their fingertips. We thought we could do a better job.

So we ran out and bought the plainest white tank, broke out our trusty sharpies, and got to work. Less than five minutes later we had the perfect eye print vest.

It might not look as fancy as Chloe’s, but it’s a million times cuter than the one at ASOS, less than half the price and lacking those pesky shipping charges.

We think Chloe would be proud.

Not So Big Love

chloeopeningceremony.jpgThe Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony lookbook is online.

Thoughts:

Chloe channels Carrie Bradshaw circa 1998 - not the best style to emulate.

When I was seven, my mom bought me a matching floral tank and shorts. I threw a temper tantrum and threw the ensemble out the window - this stirs up familiar feelings.

Maybe I would like the clothes that are stuck behind those floaty, artsy clouds? The styling is…well…let’s just say the smile on our face was more chesire than nice.

Crop tops, bobby socks, leather “Ricky-from-Project-Runway” hats, turbans, zippered spandex bodysuits - I’m feeling sick.

The 90’s are back in a big way.

I was really looking forward to this, Chloe. I’m bummed.

***p.s. Natalie loves it all.

Look Like Chloe Sevigny, On Sale

chloe dress.jpg Those coveting the giant sweater dress that Chloe Sevigny wore to the Chloe show last year might have a shot:

Though the originally mustard color is sold out, the brown one is onsale in every size at Net A Porter.

The good news is, this color looks good on almost every skin tone.

The bad news is, even onsale, the merino and yak dress is $580.

We’ve seen some pretty similar stuff at Charlotte Ronson and H&M though, but of course that’s not as much fun.

The Chronic-(what)-cles of Sevigny

url.jpegCharlize Theron is on the upcoming issue of T Fashion, but we’re way more interested in Chloe Sevigny, and also, of course, her story.

The Big Love actress and sideways style darling gave The Times a flurry of photos, all documenting what she thinks are milestones of her style.

There’s the gamine Miu Miu ad from the ’90s, the iconic poster of Kids, the slinky minidress from The Last Days of Disco, and of course a few shots of her latest project with Opening Ceremony.

The magazine hits stands on February 24th, but we’d be really bad friends if we didn’t leak the Chloe Sevigny story to you right here, right now.

Now go wash that Chloe perfume off your hands…

gucci shoes.jpg Alice Pope found a criminal pair of shoes at Nine West this weekend, and not just because they’re tacky:

The Olavera shoes they’re selling for $89 are a broken version of Gucci’s Sevigny sandal, also out this season.

Of course, the Sevigny shoes have some odd properties of their own, most notably their name -

Doesn’t Gucci know that Drew Barrymore is their celebrity face, while Chloe Sevigny poses for rival brand Chloe?

Also, we’re not sure Chloe would ever wear these things, except maybe in a deleted scene of The Last Days of Disco… and certainly not for $725, their current price in boutiques.

And on that note, we’re out for President’s Day.

Quote of the Day

“I’m still looking for the perfect jeans - I’ve been searching since ninth grade.” - Chloe Sevigny, in her role as Style Advisor on ElleUK.
Would You Wear

Would You Wear Fake Glasses?

Chloe in glasses.jpgAs WWD reported yesterday, there have been a lot of celebrities spotted in glasses as of late.

The first to really set things off was Cate Blanchett, who was photographed wearing thick black frames out to the theatre. Then, we saw Helena Christensen and Daisy Lowe sporting their own pairs, and when we spotted a bespectacled Chloe Sevigny, we knew this was officially a trend.

But how come we’ve never seen any of these ladies in glasses before? Did everyone just decide to ditch the contact lenses all in the same month? We think this could be true for some of them. But we think we’re on to the others’ secret: fake glasses.

We’ve actually known people who wear fake glasses on a daily basis. They say specs make them look smarter, kind of like when we wear wedges under long pants to look taller, or highlights to appear blonde.

We guess this could be just another accessory like any other. But there’s something about their false use that comes off as, dare we say it, poser-ish?

Would you wear fake glasses? And, more importantly, would you cop to it if anyone asked you if they were fake?
