Preen Makes the Sun Shine

PREEN SS10 .jpgAbout halfway through day two of Fashion Week, the rain showed no sign of letting up, but the nasty weather didn’t stop the crowds from pouring into Milk for the Preen show.

The beloved Brit label’s front row held Alexa Chung, Cory Kennedy, Leigh Lezark, Trish Goff and and a bundle of editors. And even though I chose to puddle-hop around town in flat boots, it’s pretty clear that nothing will come between the Vogue-ettes and their Proenza heels.

The show opened with a series of moody and monochromatic looks in black, gray, and white before including hints of neon yellow and hot pink - I loved the yellow shoes! - until they finally showed fully hot pink jumpsuits and dresses.

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi had a ball with texture. It wouldn’t be a Preen show without some lace, but they used ruffles, rosettes, laces and coral-like poufs to build depth into their dresses.

It was pretty clear no one would see the sun today, but the brilliant colors at the Preen show made my day a little bit brighter.

Yigal’s Consistent, Content, Comfortable

YIGAL SS10 4.jpgYigal Azrouel’s an inevitable hit.

This season’s front row star was Pamela Love, the jewelry designer (and best friend to Julia Roitfeld) who’s collaborating with a handful of designers, as well as presenting her own collection at MILK later next week.

Further down the front row sat Miss J, Elettra Wiedemann, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Cory Kennedy, but Pamela and Co, including Becka Diamond and Kate Lanphear, better fit Yigal’s slouchy sexy aesthetic.

The thing about his clothes is that even the cocktail dresses look like something you’d be comfortable sleeping in. From the jersey pants to the slouchy tees to the soft leather jackets (and I’m talking men’s and women’s), who doesn’t want to wear this? Especially when it’s hurricaning outside.

Conspicuously absent from the front row was Katie Lee Joel, who’s been at every Yigal thing I’ve attended for two years. Oh the power of Page Six.

(Also, my pictures were so awful, worse than usual, so head to Style.com in the morning!)

Claw Money for Sunglass Hut

claw money for sunglasses hut.jpgClaw Money is collaborating with Sunglass Hut.

The legendary grafitti artist hasn’t produced the whole collection just yet, but she’s designed one style that’ll be distributed at next week’s Social Sun launch party.

Social Sun is their new interactive way of shopping for glasses that allows customers to virtually try on as many styles as they want, blast them to friends via Facebook, texts, emails and even in-store TV screens, before deciding which ones they want to buy.

Cory Kennedy’s hosting the party/Sean Paul concert at the Herald Square flagship next week so if you see a bunch of Jeremy Scott bedecked hipsters in the most unlikely of neighborhoods, you’ll know what’s going on.

High-Tech Helmet Heads at Lagerfeld

lagerfeld aw09 .JPGIf the hot pink helmets Stephen Jones made for Giles last season weren’t quite hip enough for you, don’t worry.

Karl Lagerfeld’s one upped the Pac-Man reference. The designer showed his eponymous line this morning and sent out a parade of models rocking fur and crystal covered helmets.

What you couldn’t see from the audience were the iPods playing a slideshow of the collection. The elbow length gloves? They came equipped with iPhone holders, just in case your clutch is so tiny it can’t hold a phone.

The helmets and the caged heels were the best part of the if-Karl-were-a-woman-this-is-what-he’d-wear collection - though watching Jessica Stam hold back laughter as Peaches Geldof and Cory Kennedy wildly cheered her on from the front row was pretty good, too.

Also, if we could ask Karl one question it used to be, “What’s it like to have a butler hold your crystal goblet of diet Coke everywhere you go.” Now it would be, “Why did three men with plastic instruments slowly walk down the runway before the models and pretend to be a band, without actually moving their fingers?”

Jeremy Scott: The Cheese Stands Alone

jeremy scott aw09 .JPGA riot broke out at Jeremy Scott yesterday - and not because you-know-who finally descended upon Paris Fashion Week - but because the world was desperate for Scott’s red-telephoned Longchamp bags.

The one-offs were intended for rows one and two - home to Beth Ditto, Peaches Geldof, Cory Kennedy, Kelly Cutrone and Gareth Pugh - and the security guards were determined to do their job well - so well that we witnessed beefy French men grabbing them out of third row purses and putting them back in front.

Anyway, Scott was inspired by Mickey Mouse. Capes and coats made of Mickey’s white gloves and black and red mini-dresses printed with Mickey’s silhouette marched out to “Hey Mickey You’re So Fine.” Then there were brightly colored coats and hundreds of buttons covering corsets and dresses, all on models topped with angular black bobs.

At the end, everything was hole-y and one editor philosophized, “Britt, I think those holes are a metaphor for swiss cheese.”

It was like eating cotton candy in the middle of the gourmet seven course meal that is Paris Fashion Week.

When Henry Went Paint Shopping

hoh aw09 .JPGHenry Holland’s show was maybe the most literal thing we’ve ever seen walk down a a runway.

It’s like he took the little paint cards from Home Depot, in the most bubble-gummy colors, blew them up and put them on super fun little dresses with major zippers, transfered them onto shaggy fur coats, men’s shirts and shorts and even bags. And to top it all off, the girls got to wear jewels by Katie Hillier (of POP, of Marc by Marc accessories, of Mulberry etc) exclusively for House of Holland.

Agyness’ and Henry’s families took up an entire row which meant lots of cheering - especially when the two danced down the runway at the end. In fact, our aisle seat lent a perfect view of Henry pulling each girl out from behind the curtain and doing a little dance before sending them out onto the runway.

Dancing, bright colors and shaggy coats might have been the perfect way to end London Fashion Week.

Until Paris, mes amours!

Ksubi + Cobrasnake Again, Mates

lead cobrasnake picture.jpgJust like with the Cory Kennedy/Paris Hilton tee from earlier this year, Cobrasnake and Ksubi are teaming up once again, this time for an exhibition of Mark Hunter’s “social photography” (press release’s words, not ours), in Ksubi’s Australian stores.

The exhibit includes 200 signed photos lovingly curated from Mark’s hard drive, all of “young girls” (press release’s words, not ours) once featured on Cobrasnake, shot in London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, LA and Sydney.

If you want to catch the exhibit, titled “Too Young” (press release’s words, not Girls Gone Wild’s), stop by the Bondi Beach Ksubi store in Sydney at 6pm, or at the Armadale store in Melbourne on the 28th (full details after the jump).

Mark himself will be on hand, signing limited-edition tees and prints available for purchase, which, unbelievably, people will actually buy (ok, our words).

Charlotte Ronson to Sebastian

charlotte ronson cute headband.jpgThis just in from NYLON:

Cory Kennedy will no longer be the hair of Sebastian. The new girl? Charlotte Ronson.

We’ve been sitting here trying to think of instances where real designers posed for real campaigns (Paris Hilton for Guess does not count), and we’re pretty sure Charlotte’s breaking the mold.

She gets to wear her own clothes in the ad, and we’re sure all her girls in February will be bouncing Sebastian-made waves down the runway, but does anyone else think Sebastian’s making some strange choices of campaign faces in terms of who most people in the country can identify in a line-up? Or maybe that’s the point…

As for Charlotte, between this and her J.C. Penney deal, we see many dollar signs in her very near future…

Doc Swaps One It Girl For the Other

daisy lowe for docs red.jpgDaisy Lowe may have been everywhere this past Fashion Week, but WWD’s reporting that we’ll probably be seeing her a lot less very soon anyway:

They say Cory Kennedy, face of Urban Decay / Sebastian / half of NYLONtv, is set to replace Daisy as the face of Docs.

No idea if this has to do with Daisy’s departure from IMG - it shouldn’t, since her contract for Fall 08 was renewed even after her split with the agency - but we’re not at all surprised with the choice of her successor.

Cory, who’s signed with One, makes as much sense for Docs as any other way eastsider. So now with a third campaign soon to be under her belt, comes the big question - will people finally start referring to her as a model?

Quote of the Day

Things That Make You Go Hmm, at PPQ

PPQ SS 09.JPGWe couldn’t decide which was stranger about PPQ’s Spring show: the celebrity quotient or the collection itself.

Front row held, in no particular order, Kimberley Stewart, the Geldof sisters, Russell Simmons, the Klaxons, Cory Kennedy, the Horrors, Henry Holland and Alexa Chung.

And the randomness did not stop there.

On the runway were ruffled mini dresses (on the likes of Daisy Lowe) we’d wear any day, but followed by pants and headdresses straight out of I Dream of Jeannie. One of the final looks was a black romper devoured by ruffles - a Spring trend that apparently did not stop in New York - on top but missing crucial fabric on the bottom.

We loved the popsicle colors, similar to the ones we saw earlier in the morning at Topshop, but they seemed a bit over the top when put on such silly shapes.

And we loved watching Ali Michael strut down the runway.

The show was a blast to watch, as was the befuddling front row. But we’re not sure how easy it’d be to wear, unless of course you’re Kim Stewart.

Because then we totally get it.

First Look: Bejamin Cho

ben cho.JPGBen Cho’s show seemed to start extra late, even for Fashion Week. Luckily, we didn’t mind. It gave us plenty of time to scope out the front row which consisted of an unlikely list of young celebs: Run DMC’s two daughters, Lil’ Bow Wow, Cory Kennedy and, not to mention, MK. And we can see why they were all there.

The clothes were an interesting mix of wearable dresses, pants and tops with some innovative details (read: keys adorning sleeves and waistlines) thrown in for good measure - we could totally see MK wearing one of the form fitting black dresses with messy hair, those Balenciaga’s, and her usual quirky aplomb.

Unfortunately, we experienced some technical difficulties with our camera, so along with the pics, we’ll do our best to describe. The first look to come out was all Spring - a rainbow of colors interlacing; almost forming a plaid-like pattern and purple skirt.

The beige dresses were no less interesting - instead of keys, bright blue and dark green chains were affixed in various strategic places. More interlacing beribboned outfits came down, and in accordance with this season’s theme - a sheer white jumpsuit with bright pink underwear on full view. Actually, the whole show stuck to what we’re suspecting to be the it colors of the season: mostly black and white (white on the sheer side) and some shocking pink to really make it Spring.

First Look: Yigal Azrouel

YIGAL AZROUEL.jpgYigal Azrouel showed his Spring 09 collection at the Eyebeam in Chelsea - it’s the same place he showed last year, and the same place Alexander Wang loves to show - and we decided it’s our new favorite venue.

However, the airy, concrete-floored, brick-walled space contradicted the pastiche collection.

Yigal showed a few signature pieces including baby soft leather jackets and the thinnest jersey we’ve ever seen layered under sheer chiffon dresses - but otherwise, we kept whispering, “Stella!” or “Lanvin!” or “Matthew Williamson!” It wasn’t that we didn’t like it, it was just that we felt we’d seen most of it before.

Those bathing suits though, we might not know who can actually wear them, but they’re amazing.

Pre-show highlights included Kelly Cutrone, in sunglasses, getting snapped by the photographers a la celebrity, Nina Garcia shuffling to her front row seat and Cory Kennedy rocking flannel like it was 1994.

Post-show highlights included Yigal’s wave, because, well, he’s super cute. But you knew that already.

ps. For those of you who might have wondered, the gift bags did, in fact, include a few boxes each of those Yigal Azrouel condoms. And now you kow.

Cory Kennedy to One

cory_kennedy.jpgThis just in from the Fashion Week trenches: Cory Kennedy has signed with One Model Management, a company that represents Claudia, Bridget Hall and Devon Aoki, among others.

Now, if you’re like us, you probably thought Cory Kennedy would have gone away about a year ago. But like any good teenage, internet celeb wonder - she just keeps popping up, but the question is, will she pop up on a runway?

We all know Cory’s good at getting her picture taken and the girl’s definitely cute, so when you think about it, this is a half-way logical progression. We just wonder how she’ll fare on the more editorial side of the camera - if Caroline owns jumping then we could definitely see Cory owning the awkward hipster slouch. Or maybe she’ll just stick to the bleary eyed and knowing smirk combo she made famous on Cobrasnake.

To think - we might start seeing her in editorials?!

People We Like

Peaches Geldof To Nylon TV

When we heard British style icon Peaches Geldof married that guy who sings that song about Jimmy Choos, our first though was “Woah”.

Then we wondered what she’d do when she got here. She could just spend her days looking pretty until she’s as famous here as she is in London, but she’s kind of too cool for that. We thought she might get a reality show, pen a gossip column in the vein of Lydia Hearst, or maybe design a line for Urban. But we can’t believe we never guessed she’d be the new host of Nylon TV.

She’s partnered with Cory Kennedy to host the 90210 feature in honor of the Nylon’s first ever TV issue. You get to see the cover shoot full of ridiculously lacy outfits and a sneak peek of that much anticipated Tilly and the Wall appearance. We’re still not convinced it’ll be as good as Gossip Girl, but we’re willing to give it a shot because of those sequined leggings we spotted.

Oh, and we learn how Peaches really feels about Tori Spelling.

Buy, Buy, Baby

“I’ve Never Stopped Loving You and I Know Now I Never Will”

90210 brenda tee.jpgClearly, everyone’s secretly excited, or at least secretly curious, for the new 90210.

Will they bring back floral minis?

Will Donna wear a choker?

Is Cory Kennedy really in it? (Yes, she is.)

So when a reader sent in a tip that you can still buy 90210 tees on the CBS site, we knew we had to share it with the rest of you.

Insanely, the tee at left would totally work on Jenny Humphrey, wouldn’t it?

Cory Kennedy to Sebastian

And you thought the Cory Kennedy train had derailed long ago.

NYLON just reported that the face of Urban Decay is now the face of Sebastian, too.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes video of her shooting the campaign for those of you still in disbelief - click to hear that she (of course!) uses the products on her own time, that it’s made for “people”, and to watch her try to hop around in her broomstick yellow YSL Tributes.

Whether the main product, Whipped Crème, will come with a diagram on how to get the perfectly haven’t-seen-a-shower-in-months look remains to be seen…
