Spring 2010 Paris

Louis Live, Too

louis vuitton goes live stream ss10.jpgEveryone’s doing it.

Louis Vuitton just announced that they’ll hop on the live stream bandwagon and broadcast their SS10 show, too.

Burberry did it in their stores, Dolce and Gabanna (and D&G) did it online, but ever the exclusive ones, Louis Vuitton will broadcast it on their Facebook page only. The show will stay up for just twenty-four hours and then slideshows will have to satisfy you.

So pencil in ten minutes in front of a computer next Wednesday, October 7th at 2:30pm in Paris which means 8:30am in New York or way too early in California. And don’t forget the night before, Alexander McQueen’s broadcasting his show, called “Plato Atlantis” at 8:30pm Paris time (which you can translate accordingly).

It all makes the hurt of not actually being in Paris slightly more bearable.

Rosie the Riveter

rosie huntington whiteley for dandg underwear.jpgRosie Huntington-Whiteley is climbing back up quite nicely it seems.

After a rather anonymous job for DoTheGreenThing.com, the jilted beauty has managed to land herself as the body for the D&G Underwear ads, which seems to be her only fashion campaign for the season, not counting some continuing work for Agent Provocateur.

We think she’s probably one spread away from landing herself a Fall campaign for somebody big enough to be considered “back,” (Calvin Klein Jeans? Etro?) and then it’ll be like the whole thing never happened.

Which just goes to show - If you do the crime, make sure you have the time to pose like a wrestler for a little while.

Scarlett J for Dolce

scarlett johannson for dolce gabanna spring 09.jpgScarlett Johansson’s rumored to be the new face of Dolce & Gabbana.

She’ll front their Spring 09 campaign, already shot by Mert and Marcus according to Style.com, though for beauty or fashion, no one knows.

Scarlett’s experienced either way. She’s posed for L’Oreal and Louis Vuitton, both of which should prepare her for Stefano and Domenico in case her numerous red carpet Dolce wearing moments weren’t enough.

Tthis puts the celeb count at three this spring with Katie Holmes for Miu Miu and Madonna for Louis Vuitton. The group model shots are at a bajillion and we wonder how either strategy is recession friendly.

Meanwhile, we’re secretly hoping Scarlett makes a cameo on Model.Live, since Cato Van Ee is in D&G’s Spring campaign, too.

She can address the major differences between acting and modeling and tell us how she strikes such a delicate Dolce/Stella balance.

Quote of the Day

“That’s like telling me we’re going to the D&G store on West Broadway after the Met Ball.” — Derek Blasberg upon hearing the crowd was moving to Denis Simachev’s boutique for drinks Russian Vogue’s tenth anniversary party.

Streetwalker

Streetwalker: Mad for Plaid

Jules Streetwalker.JPGJules, 23, Artist

Got Her: At Versailles, in front of the Koons.

Stalked Her: Let’s just say that when you plop a girl like this in the middle of squealing tourists wearing sweatshirts and fanny packs, she kind of stands out.

Shot Her: Because we’ve been obsessing over the D&G tartan for fall, and while her outfit might not be off the runway, she makes the look everyday appropriate. And, that skirt length is almost impossible to pull off. Also, did you notice the equestrian lining of her coat?

She Says: “I’ve had this skirt forever. Is plaid trendy again?”

We Say: Ah, so above it all.

Would You Wear Spring’s Head Gear?

spring headgear all over.jpgOr the more appropriate question is, “Will you wear spring’s head gear?”

The runways have been inundated with hats. Catherine Holstein wrapped whole sweaters around the heads of her models. PPQ added I Dream of Jeannie-like toppers to their ruffly dresses and Luella splashed retro veiled hats and riding caps across her floral outfits.

We think some, like the sweaters at Holstein, might look super cool on the runway but stop short of realistically working on a regular girl’s head. Same goes for the PPQ hats - they’d induce a giggle or two at the even the most wacky New York party. And the swim caps at D&G - are they serious?

Luella’s little hats, while cute on Ali, Jourdan et. al, are the kind of thing we want to rock when we’re eighty-year-old eccentric ladies with a murky fashion past.

Right now, we’d love one of the sun hats from Trovata and Nicole Farhi, or even a mini Mary Poppins hat from Marc. And we’d obviously rock the giant bobby pins from Basso & Brooke, but we’re not even sure those are for sale.

If you don’t usually wear hats, will this spring’s wide selection make you change your mind? Or is this a look better left to runways/editorials/ads/models rather than mere mortals?

Would You Wear Short Shorts?

TheSartorialist_Shortshorts.jpgWe’ve been discussing the idea of men wearing short shorts (think above the knee, mid-thigh or shorter in length) all summer now and we’re still at arms.

Britt and Hayley both think hemlines shouldn’t creep too high, but just above the knee is ok. I’m all for them as long as the shorts aren’t too tight, and if the wearer has great legs worthy of being exposed. (Natalie thinks the higher the better, especially if you’re a soccer player, but she’s just gross like that.)

On the Spring ‘08 runways, everyone from Dsquared to Bottega Veneta featured thigh grazing lengths that quickly took to the streets. We’ve seen them paired with everything from tiny tank tops and Converse to button down shirts with boat shoes.

We love a guy that can take a risk and show some serious leg, but not with the possibility of indecent exposure (whatever, Natalie).

So guys, would you wear short shorts? And to the girls - should they?
