Vamping It Up on V

dakotav.jpgIn stark contrast to the other teen star’s magazine cover we wrote about today, we’re huge fans of Dakota Fanning’s V cover (one of two for the issue — the second belongs to Precious’ Gabourey Sidibe.)

Inside, Dakota chats about her role in The Runaways and how she’s finally able to wear a size zero without having to take it in: “Now that I’m getting older, I’m finally getting to the point where I can fit into those things.”

She also mentions how much she loved shooting the film, co-starring Kristen Stewart: “I really enjoyed doing that subject matter for the first time in a biopic, because it really happened, it’s not just a made-up story about a 15-year-old running wild. It’s a true story of her evolution from good Valley Girl to bad rock ‘n roll princess.”

Fashion Gaming

rachelzoeanddakotafanning.jpgI haven’t played Nintendo since the days of Super Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda. But, boy, was I into it back then, and not too shabby if I do say so myself.

Today Nintendo DS, the portable one, launches a new fashion-based game called Style Savvy that sounds pretty interesting too. (Rachel Zoe and Dakota Fanning tried it out at the launch in LA.) In it you get to take on the role of boutique owner managing everything from customer questions to budget and inventory.

There are 16 lines with over 10,000 items to stock your store with. And even the customers have different personalities, so you need to treat each one individually in order to get them to come back.

We haven’t actually played the game yet, but it sounds like pretty good practice for the real world. At least you’ll learn more than you would playing Mario or Luigi and throwing mushrooms at random creatures.

10 Juergen Teller Facts

IMG_0557.JPGWhile the rest of Fashionista was out and about at Alexander Wang’s show and crazy raucous afterparty, (making me consistently more and more jealous from their tweets) I took a fashion week staycation and trekked over to the School of the Visual Arts Theatre to watch a discussion between Juergen Teller and Cathy Horyn. Here’s what I learned.

1. Has been shooting Marc Jacobs’ advertisments for eleven years, and did not get paid in the beginning.

2. Uses a 35mm camera and refuses to go digital.

3. Does most of his shoots by himself and with his one assistant.

4. Dakota Fanning’s whole family was on set for her Marc Jacobs’ ads, and Dakota sent him a few handwritten letters afterwards saying thanks and recommending books.

5. The legendary Victoria Beckham in a shopping bag ad campaign for MJ only happened because of a personal call Teller put in to Ms. Beckham. Beckham’s lawyers wanted to review all the photos before the ads ran, and Teller refused, so he called Victoria directly instead and the rest is fashion history.

All Grown Up

EWatsonBurberry_V_09June09_Copyright-Burberry_Testino.jpg.jpegEmma Watson has emerged as quite the young fashion star—from wearing Rodarte and hanging with Daphne Guinness to shooting with Mario Testino for the new Burberry ads that will break in August magazines, where she looks like the picture of youthful sophistication.

And with each move, we love her more and more.

Now, if only we could groom our young American stars to grow up in the spotlight with as much style and grace as the girl best known as Hermione. We suppose Dakota Fanning is holding her own, but other examples elude us.

Christopher Bailey said of Emma, “Her charm, intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.” We can hardly imagine any designer saying the same of one of our teen queens.
