Get a Piece of Daria

darialancome.jpgHere at Fashionista, we love playing buyer, stylist, beauty editor… the list goes on. If you do, too, Polyvore.com is probably proving to be an addictive guilty pleasure.

On Polyvore, you can create your own fashion layouts or look books with products or images from the web and share them with the world.

Today, the site is launching a contest with Lancôme. It’s called “Hypnotize Lancôme with Your Fashion Sense,” and it celebrates the new fragrance Hypnôse Senses. Create a layout that illustrates your sense of style, and one winner will win a $250 lancome-usa.com gift card and a bottle of Hypnôse Senses, signed by Daria. Five runners-up will each win $100 gift cards plus a bottle of Hypnôse Senses.

You can create as many sets as you like that sum up your unique fashion sense, as long as each one includes a bottle of Hypnôse Senses. After all, every fashion icon in the making needs a signature scent.

More details and entry instructions can be found here.

UPDATE: We just heard that Daria herself will be picking the winner!

Trendspotting: The Luxurification of Basics

luxurification of basics.jpgThis season’s all about the leather pants - a wonderful change from last season’s wannabe leather liquid leggings - but it looks like next season’ll welcome the leather top.

In New York, Phillip Lim showed leather tanks and tees over slouchy pants and tucked into little skirts. In Paris, Phoebe Philo showed more structured leather tees in both black and brown and Daria Werbowy poured herself into Christophe Decarnin’s studded leather top at Balmain.

I squeezed Frankie’s Alexander Wang look into that graphic because, though there is leather on top, it fits the trend of turning a total basic - t-shirt, sweatshirt, legging - into a luxury item; a successful runway idea that always earns the “comfortable chic” label. But practically speaking, leather tops sound miserably uncomfortable and unflattering unless made out of the absolute best leather.

We’re praying to the high street gods to leave this one alone.

tanyadreturnstoparis.jpgMy Favorite Martian: Daria returned to the runways this morning at Balmain. And apparently, the alien-like beauty of Tanya D. will grace us with its presence once again very soon. We missed your boundless energy backstage in New York, Miss T! {Fashin}

LSD’s Burial Outfit?: Apparently it may be a Julian Louie dress. And yes, that’s vaguely morbid. But we still love the commentary on the Vogue-ette’s Fashion Week choices. {StyleFile}

Copping To It: The Nina Ricci relaunch tonight in Paris will be a low-key affair. Our desire to see what Peter does, still anything but low-key. {FWD}

Elsewhere On the Beauty Front

dariahypnosesense.jpgAlong with launching their new body balm today, Kiehl’s also let us in on their Fashion’s Night Out plans. Emmanuelle Chriqui (aka Sloan from Entourage) will be hosting a party at their flagship store on Third Avenue. You’ll be able to sing for your supper from 7-11 pm. Or rather karaoke for your free lip balm—and enter a raffle for loads of other goodies.

Not to be outdone, the folks at Lancôme are blanketing the city with their beautiful people. Daria will be starting out her night behind the counter at Saks from 6-7. There will also be a limited number (only 30 bottles) of the new Hypnôse Senses fragrance for sale—it doesn’t officially launch in the US until next month. You’ll find Arlenis at Macy’s Herald Square from 6-7 as well.

Hallelujah: Is there anything wrong with the fact that only one photographer and one model have been booked for the August issue of French Vogue? Not when Inez & Vinoodh are shooting Daria. {WWD}

Are You Ready: It’s that time of year, when the fashion blogosphere holds its breath in anticipation of Fall ads. So far, Marc Jacobs throws Natasa V out the window and Calvin Klein casts Jourdan Dunn. {TheFashionSpot & Fashionologie}

SHOWstudio’s Model Exhibition

natalia vodianova in nick knight video.jpgIn October, Nick Knight and SHOWstudio announced they’d be launching an epic exhibition at Somerset House to coincide with London Fashion Week SS09 and the BFC’s 25th Anniversary (the celebrations for which we’re already SO excited).

Well, now we know that the exhibit will showcase the site’s collaborations with designers, artists and models including Alexander McQueen, Liberty Ross, Gareth Pugh and Julie Verhoeven, as well as new collaborative films made specifically for the celebration and it’ll run from September through December.

One room will function as a photo studio, housing Nick Knight and his team preparing for on-site shoots. So you can watch his preparation live, instead of edited into a slick video. And while they’ll be shooting one hundred portraits of London’s hippest models, actors, musicians and artists, he’ll also be working with a major model.

And considering his taste in girls- Kate, Natalia, Irina, Daria, Lily - we’re kind of dying to know who it is. Guesses?

Alexis Bledel Signs with IMG

alexisbledelsignsIMG.jpgModeling behemoth IMG (home of Kate, Gisele, Daria, the Lilys, and oh-so many more of our favorite girls) has just signed former Gilmore Girl Alexis Bledel to the agency to handle her commercial endorsements - so now she and Little J can hang out at the office?

And we’re excited to see what they’ve got planned.

We were always big fans of Rory and Lorelei and her porcelain complexion and blue eyes are pretty incredible.

Anything that brings her some cool new exposure works for us.

Bring on the campaigns.

Matthew Williamson’s H&M Commercial

Just in case you haven’t heard, Matthew Williamson recently launched a collection for H&M.

There was a major London bash, a New York launch and then a Grace Jones-centric party on a boat in the Hudson and now, this commercial. Daria speaks, which is rare, and Matthew Williamson emerges from underground, which we imagine is also rare.

Grey-haired men, Dolce-shouldered models, pink horses and bikini-clad women star; at the end Matthew declares, “Well, I haven’t done it all, yet.”

What, exactly, does he have in store?

Dear Daria, It’s Nice to See You

daria werbowy for isabel marant spring 09.jpgAfter having taken the entire summer off (she told IMG, her agency, that she was even turning off her cell phone), Daria Werbowy is in full force for 2009.

First she popped up in the Roberto Cavalli campaign (sometimes alongside Kate), then Isabel Marant (at left), then the February cover of Australian Vogue - and now she’s been named the face of Matthew Williamson’s H&M line - not her first foray with the Swedish megabrand - a campaign that will include television commercials alongside the designer himself (modeling the menswear), marking his own debut as a model.

Not too shabby considering all he has to do is keep it together next to the Canadian wonder model - but we’re wondering whether this means lines for Daria on TV, of course.

Missing Persons Report: Gemma?

img revamps their site.jpgIMG’s changed their website.

We’re kind of indifferent to colors and fonts, but we’re enthralled with their new “Welcome to the World of Beautiful People” video.

Before, one was greeted with an almost perfect trifecta - Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Gemma Ward - now you get more, but one less.

The black and white slideshow gives screen time to Naomi, Hilary Rhoda, Stephanie Seymour (in that ridiculous POP come-back shoot), Heidi Mount, Lara Stone and Angela Lindvall, but where oh where did Gemma go?

Just because she’s disappeared from life and runways and campaigns and everything but The Black Balloon doesn’t mean she’s lost her modeling spot.

Does it?

Stam Gets Her Wings, For Real This Time

stammy.jpgEvidently, Victoria’s Secret angel wings can only take you so far.

Jessica Stam’s decided that being taller than most women isn’t enough anymore, and is studying for her pilot’s license. And all we keep thinking is, what is she going to wear? Dior Homme jeans and Christian Louboutins may not be the most suitable attire for the cockpit, though Amelia Earhart did famously keep up appearances (most notably by always powdering her nose before and after entering the cockpit), so why go against history?

We’re kind of loving this news - it’s just another in a string of models taking up interests that have nothing to do with clothes or cashing in on their face DNA (Sasha’s an artist, Daria sails, Lily knows a lot, etc), which is admirable and saves us from groaning that they’re busy designing for Mango or something.

On a side note, does this mean she’ll fly herself to the Couture, or to shoots? Imagine the savings in production costs!

Harvey Nichols Hearts Wallace and Gromit

lady campunla.jpgHarvey Nichols just got a little cuter. The departments stores eschewed Darias, Sashas and Aggys, in favor of some very cute and quirky celebs - made of plasticine, naturally.

The new campaign features Wallace, Gromit and even Lady Campanula Tottingham decked out in designer duds - they look pretty awesome. Sure, Lady Tottingham could stand to get her teeth fixed and Wallace might want to reconsider the glasses-perched-on-bald-head look, but over all the clay trio looks quite chic.

Who knew that Alexander McQueen could look so good on a plasticine body? (Well, Britt knew of course).

Maybe this could lead to a whole new career for the clay made cartoons - we could totally see Juergen Teller shooting Lady Campanula Tottington in some Viv Westwood ads. And wouldn’t Wallace look adorable posing in a pair of Calvins? Watch out Beckham.

First Look: Daria for Lancome (Again)

IMG_3397.JPGEarlier this summer, Faran reported in Page Six Magazine that Daria Werbowy was sailing around the world all season - no cell phone, no internet, and definitely no modeling.

But it seems she got one more task done before taking off:

She shot a new campaign for Lancome where she demonstrates their amazing, expensive, incredible Oscillator Mascara - yes, the one with the vibrating wand.

The mascara, and the ad, launch this November, but thanks to a little snooping and a lot of Daria and Lancome adoration, we managed to score the sneak peek below.

Enjoy, and yes, the mascara actually does make your lashes do that…

Double Double Toil and Trouble

double covers pull.jpgFact: I’ve read every foreign Vogue in existence. In a dozen, plus, languages.

Fact: I study models before going to bed at night and upon waking in the morning.

Fact: Vogue UK and Vogue Paris love their cover models so much they often make sure they’re posing on the back cover, too (click through for further evidence!)

Fact: Noticing this trend has triggered compulsive magazine flipping of every issue that slides across my desk.

Possible Fact: If I ripped out all the covers and back-cover ads and arranged them on my wall Beautiful Mind style, do you think I could conjure my own Lisa like in Weird Science?
