Dree’s V Outtakes

drees outtakes.jpgWe will never tire of watching outtakes from editorial photo shoots:

1. We love models.

2. We’re fascinated by what looks like their innate ability to immediately collapse into the most dramatic, most draped positions ever.

3. We always wonder how they choose the music. Is it based on the vibe of the shoot? If so, this must have been a very creepy experience for everyone involved.

4. We never tire of seeing it all pre-airbrush.

This Week’s Appointments

thakoons irrelevant gap ad.jpgThe Tribeca Film Festival hit Doha last week and my mom finally saw The September Issue.

She loved Grace, loved Raquel, and wanted to know if Thakoon ever did design for Mango, and if he didn’t, who did? The only other name we remember from Anna’s list, when she sat down with Oscar De La Renta, was Tracey Feith which, thank god, didn’t happen.

But this morning WWD suggested that Moises De La Renta, Oscar’s son, is up for the job. The Spanish brand’s staging their annual fashion show on Wednesday in Madrid’s Magic Box (built for their failed Olympic bid) and Moises is expected to attend. He’ll be among 600 other guests including Scarlett Johansson and Dree Hemingway.

Meanwhile, Thakoon does have a new job. He’s been appointed Creative Director of Tasaki, the Japanese jewelry line known for cultivating their own pearls. He says, “It is exciting to be working with fine jewelry as it will unquestionably feed into my overall creative process… My goal is to approach jewelry design in the same manner that I approach clothing: always move forward but respect the past.”

Quote of the Day

“Ernest is not someone I’m constantly thinking about. In fact, I might like his friend F. Scott Fitzgerald a little bit more.” - Dree Hemingway in the new V, and yet it wasn’t Dree Crisman who landed that Givenchy runway.

I Blush, Kate Brushes at Topshop Unique

TOPSHOP SS10 .jpgAt this point in the game, the only way to possibly survive is to inhale coffee and water all the time.

So my first stop at the Topshop Unique show yesterday afternoon was the bathroom. Down a hallway and around the corner, I almost ran smack into Jefferson Hack and turned as bright pink as my new brogues. The ladies’ room itself was empty save a woman in a grey hat and strappy snakeskin sandals brushing her teeth. Once in a stall I thought, wait, no, really?

It was. Do you know how hard it is to wash your hands next to Kate Moss brushing her teeth and not stare? She was apparently distraught over someone trying to take her picture. Hopefully someone explained that all anyone wants to do is take pictures of Kate Moss and that she probably shouldn’t attend fashion shows if she’s decided to turn camera shy.

The show itself, styled by Katie Grand and opened with Dree Hemingway, featured more wacky 80s gear like last season. There was oversized studded denim layered over what looked like neon latex suits, brightly colored dresses, messy hair and and a whole punk rock jock thing - think studded letterman jackets - that was like Alex Wang on acid.

It was fun to watch, but a bit hard to give my undivided attention with Kate Moss present.

Models

Dree Does CK

dree hemingway for calvin klein.jpgDree Hemingway, former Abercrombie model and it-girl of a pretty long moment, will walk Calvin Klein next month.

The model, and literary heir, surfaced onto New York’s fashion scene about a year ago and while she made the show and party rounds last season, she walked exclusively for Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy in Paris.

We expect she’ll be at least a US exclusive for Calvin Klein and pop up in Paris, if not London, too.

And in other model news, Alana Zimmer’s gone and chopped off all her hair.

A Mini-Met?

model mayhem at the whitney.jpgThe Whitney Art Party’s on Wednesday night and we’ve gotten the first edition of the confirmed guest list.

Starlets and artists will be there in droves, but as far as models go, there’s Coco Rocha, Lydia Hearst, Dree Hemingway, Brooklyn Decker, Lisa Cant, Julie Henderson, Maggie Rizer, Selita Ebanks and Hilary Rhoda.

And of course, we have no idea what to wear, especially since the party’s sponsored by BCBG again which means all of their perfect little bodies will be swathed in Herve bandages with feet tucked into sky high heels. Because sure, no one’s looking at us, but it takes a serious outfit to guarantee we won’t hide in a corner under the weight of being anything less than 5’11 with long blond hair and the perfect Rick Owens leather jacket.

So, should we follow in the footsteps of last year with a long vintage floral number, flat sandals and little effort? Or, is it time to step it up with something a bit smaller and louder? If only we had this in our closet.
