Mickey Sees Red

du juan with mickey and minnie mouse.jpgLast Week, Refinery29 documented the Mickey Mouse craze that’s sweeping hipsters and non-hipsters everywhere, including some people in our office (we pinky swore).

Then this past Saturday, Mickey and Minnie showed up - in person! - on a red carpet in Beijing for the Vogue Icon Celebration Event, arms linked with Du Juan. The toons wore Vivienne Tam.

Next logical step: Britney in Mouseketeer ears for a major spread.

Vogue Nippon, are you listening?

Run, Du Juan, Run!

Here’s something we thought everyone could enjoy, you know, since the Olympics have officially taken over every TV screen in the world.

Vogue cover girl Du Juan ran a leg of the Olympic procession last week in Beijing. While we kind of hoped that she’d bust out a few poses for the camera, or maybe even jump a little for us, she dutifully carried the torch with just a huge smile.

We think it’s cute when fashion and sports collide, especially when it involves a model wearing such a serious Olympic uniform.

Besides, she’s a whole lot prettier than Michael Phelps.

ThreeAsFour for Gap: Confirmed

threeasfour gap dress.jpgBack before the Fashion Week madness, we reported that runway favorite ThreeAsFour was doing a capsule collection for Gap as part of the deal that Gap struck with the CFDA/Vogue fashion fund after a hefty donation.

Now WWD fills in the rest reporting that 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian and Philip Crangi will also design limited-edition collections (all having to do with the white shirt) for the mass brand this year.

The clothes hit stores next month, but you might have to do some hunting for some of it - as of right now, it looks like only Phillip Lim’s designs will be available in most Gap stores (including Gap Canada, UK and Japan.) So if distribution is decided by popularity or name recognition, we’re not sure where ThreeAsFour will land - but we’re hoping right on Broadway so we can just swing by on our way to work.

In the meantime, we’ll be sure to put up the ad as soon as possible, featuring guest appearances by Chanel Iman, Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, Du Juan, Catherine McNeil, Anja Rubik, Doutzen Kroes and Irina Lazareanu.

Coco and Sasha and Agyness, Oh My!

Catherine McNeil Pirelli.JPGThe 2008 Pirelli Calendar is officially out, and it’s packed with the new mega models of the year.

If you can actually get your hands on one (they can’t be bought and are received only as a gift,) feast your eyes on: Catherine McNeil (costumed as a geisha,) Doutzen, Gemma, Du Juan, Lily Donaldson, Agyness, Coco, Sasha, Caroline Trentini, Mo Wan Dan and actress Maggie Cheung.

The girls can be seen gallivanting around the streets of Shanghai, through the lens of Patrick Demarchelier (this is his second Pirelli.)

Previous Pirelli fixations include such heavyweights as Kate, Cindy, Naomi, Laetitia Casta and Sofia Loren,

Nevermind how a rubber company came to be the producer of such a prestigious annual collection - does this mean that the photographed girls are officially more than just blips on the radar?

Do It Like A Model: Clown Makeup

cocorocha.JPGRule #1 of Fashionista: it’s okay to be obsessed with models. We are, and now we’ve picked up some tips for helping you emulate the otherworldly beautiful people: get thee to the circus.

At Rag & Bone, they used Ben Nye black clown makeup—as its name suggests, it’s most often used not under The Tents but the ones that come with rings of three.

To get that “My Fair Lady look on the eyes of Coca Rocha, Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, and Du Juan, schmear a little bit of it on your eyelids in place of eyeshadow. You can also smudge it very lightly with a brush or even a Q-Tip for eyeliner. We’re not suggesting you go all out for the Bearded Lady look (disastrous Top Model shoot, anyone?). But a little on the eyes and you could soon be a little more model-y. Maybe Coco will even say hi.
