LOVE to London Fashion Week

love magazine ad.jpgFifteen days to LOVE!

We know you knew that, but here’s something more: The magazine launches in the UK on February 19th, London Fashion Week Eve, and will be handed out throughout the week at all of Mandi Lennard’s shows. Mandi’s the PR guru behind House of Holland, Gareth Pugh, Roksanda Ilincic, Eley Kishimoto, Danielle Scutt, formerly POP, TopMan and almost every other thing you want to be part of while in London.

This means that when we get off the red eye on the morning of the 20th and head to the Topshop venue, wherever it may be, we’ll be rejuvenated with delicious treats and the first ever copy of Katie’s new mag, and no one will be left to wonder why London Fashion Week is the most fun of all.

What Do You Heart?

i heart tote bag by chris deane.jpgYesterday, during step one hundred of Britt-Cleans-Out-Her-Closet week, I found a giant bag full of tote bags.

I felt like Mary Poppins pulling them out - the never ending stream included bags from Bumble, from Charlotte Ronson and Alexandre Herchcovitch, one from Preen and another from Eley Kishimoto - the tangible fruits of my Fashion Week labors.

But I’d trade them all in for this one from Christopher Deane.

I’ve always been a sucker for the traditional I Heart logo and this thick, cotton, made in the USA tote looks sturdier than any of the paper thin bags I’ve garnered from the runways.

The only trouble is that I have to decide what exactly I heart. And while today I might write The Grinch or Kate Moss, tomorrow I might want to write Candy Canes or Doutzen.

What will you heart?

Cacharel’s Bad Luck

cacharel dumps eley kishimoto.jpgCacharel’s removed Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto from their designer posts.

The duo’s been designing the line for just one year and though they haven’t made much commercial headway, they’ve gotten solid critical reviews and appeared to be on the right track toward revitalizing the French brand, which celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in Paris this past Fashion Week.

But they weren’t doing it fast enough for Jean Bousquet, the brand’s founder, who’s still in control of the line and let them go over “a conflict over creative vision”.

The thought of designing for someone else’s brand when that iconic figure’s still alive could make even the most hardened designer feel sick. It might not be Laurent and Pilati, but tension inevitably arises when trying to express something so personal while trying to create something fresh and new.

This Spring’s Cacharel collection was fun to see on a runway, and ten times more wearable than most, but it wasn’t so much classic Cacharel as it was grown up Eley Kishimoto, and we’re not surprised they weren’t the right fit for the French brand.

Though we don’t think Bousquet has too many chances left. Maybe he should focus on a total vintage revival - because that’d sell in a heartbeat.

Cacharel: The Odyssey

CACHAREL SS09.JPGThe Cacharel show might be the longest we’ve ever attended.

When it finally ended, everyone stood up to leave and it started again. The first time through, we saw at least forty-five looks from Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, the new creative directors of the brand.

Their girls wore colorful summer dresses, crop tops, bird earrings and especially cute sandals. The best part of their outfits? See TeenVogue.

Then, after the first designer bow, we were treated to a string of archive-inspired liberty print dresses modeled with bare feet and a bow from Cacharel’s founder Jean Bousquet himself in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

At least they know that if you make it long, you have to make it worth it.

Taste the Rainbow

These looks from London’s Armand Basi, Erdem, and Eley Kishimoto could have popped straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon. Or a Crayola box. The 64-ct. of course.

Got Her:
At last night’s Nylon party on top of the Gansevoort.

Stalked Her: Because we weren’t sure what was more day-glo - her hair color or her dress.

Shot Her: We know this outfit wouldn’t work on a civilian, but somehow the blue tights with the open-toe Louboutins and the crazy Crayola dress seem like amazing inspiration for anyone stuck in a wardrobe rut.

She Says: “I do a lot of my shopping in Tokyo because I like finding things there that nobody has in New York. This dress is from Japan but it was actually imported from Paris - I think it’s Eley Kishimoto? I had to put a sweater and a jacket over it because of the cold.”

We Say: Rainbow bright.

Streetwalker: Technicolor Dreamcoat

Got Her: Walking with a friend on Mott St.

Stalked Her: Because the coat reminded us that winter grayness isn’t forever - and neither are the grimy jackets specking streets around the city.

Shot Her: Because the purple tights reminded us of yesterday’s Marni show, and the smile made us psyched.

She Says: “The coat is from Eley Kishimoto. Colorful coats, you just have to watch your shoes. And the bag is from London… I can’t really tell you where!”

We Say: Purple haze, youre makin me blow my mind…
