Everyone’s psyched for Fashion’s Night Out, but everyone’s worried that no one’ll actually shop - or we were worried until we saw the official PSA.
You’d be hard pressed not to break out your wallet after listening to Sarah Jessica Parker beg and watching Diddy dance his way across the screen. Anna Wintour laughs, which is becoming less unusual, and Raquel Zimmermann hangs onto Alex Wang like a monkey to a tree and they’re all SO excited.
Suddenly, it makes sense to shell out for a PS 1 if Jack & Lazaro help pick the color or splurge on Elizabeth & James when Ashley tells you what fits best - especially since the night before Fashion Week all anyone wants are new clothes. Anyway, now we think this’ll be successful, and by successful we mean lucrative.
The official PSA, above. Outtakes, after the jump!
We’ve always been intrigued by Mary-Kate and Ashley’s adamant choice to remain invisible from The Row.
They’ll make public appearances for Elizabeth and James and talk about it in the press, but when it comes to their $300 t-shirt line they didn’t even advertise until this season and they refuse to let themselves be too publicly associated with it.
But the retailers who are determined to sell their line through this recession can’t help but push a little bit of Olsen into the leather jackets and cotton tees. The Spring 09 editorial-like, giant size Barneys catalog was shot by Patrick Demarchelier and stars a string of current top models rocking head to toe runway looks.
On the last page Eniko wears The Row, with cleaned up Olsen hair, over-sized shades, perfectly chunky Louboutin platforms and for extra emphasis, a white paper coffee cup.
The twins might not want to be the face of The Row, they might want their clients to buy their line based on quality and design expertise, but Barneys knows it takes more than that to sell a $550 white v-neck.
Once upon a time, I fell in love with a blazer. It had feathers (my very favorite trend that never runs its course), and adequately achieved a menswear-inspired look du jour - but with a feminine twist I actually wanted to pull off.
Yet as the story so often goes, the price tag on this Elizabeth & James blazer - $765 - offended my eyes, so I had to look away. Luckily, like a lot of Olsen-wear, the look was easily re-created - and with a more figure-flattering (for me, anyway) blazer and downsized, removable, plumage.
What You’ll Need:
- Feather trim, about $10/yd anywhere but Mood
- Blazer - any will do, my favorite is from H&M
- Velcro strip (black), $1 store
- optional: needle & thread
Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen recently debuted the Spring 2008 collection for their cheaper-than-the-Row-but-still-not-that-cheap label Elizabeth & James. It’s already available all over the US, and oddly enough at Urban Outfitters in the UK (or not that odd, Britt says Urban is boutiquier across the pond).
Good news for MK & A, and anyone named Elizabeth or James (although we guess this one didn’t really work out for Jessie Spano), but if this experiment is any indication, all you Lisa’s and Brian’s out there might want to reconsider that diffusion line…
