There’s been much speculation about Emma Watson’s design prospects, from her own line to a capsule collection for Burberry. But now know what the Brown freshman will be doing on that front for the time being—a collaboration with People Tree, a sustainable and Fair Trade fashion brand.
Emma says, “I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with.”
We love Emma and totally think her intentions are more than genuine, but we there aren’t any photos of the clothes to check out yet. Sad face. The pieces won’t be available until February 2010 and will feature 26 women’s and 15 men’s styles, and accessories too. Word is that the inspiration is the South of France, the London capital, and country festivals. All things we like very much.
Plus, the profits go to the People Tree Foundation which is all about making trade fair. We’re sure somewhere Chris Martin is smiling.
We’ve had Ossie Clark (though of the vintage variety) on our minds lately, after Emma Watson showed up in what we considered just about the perfect Ossie dress at the HP premiere in London.
Now comes word via WWD that the company, which relaunched most recently in 2008, will close yet again due to “market conditions.”
We can’t say we’re completely surprised, as nothing could ever quite compare to the original.
But at least we have places like Decades to keep the ’60s and ’70s classics in play.

We All Scream For Ice Cream: When is the Coolhaus truck coming to NYC? One Mies Vanilla Rohe and one Richard Meyer Lemon, please. {The Moment}
Loving You Is Easy: Girl crush Emma brings it again in Christopher Kane on Letterman. Can’t wait to see what she wears to the NYC premiere tonight. {Grazia}
Small Screen Move: We would totally watch boy crush Lorenzo on any sort of reality show he’d like to sign on for. {FWD}
Our fashion crush on Emma Watson grows stronger with each passing day.
Last night at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the rain did not scare the actress into compromising her look. She wore a beautiful floor-length vintage Ossie Clark dress with Chanel jewelry.
We’ll keep this in mind the next time drizzle deters us from wearing something nice.
Emma looked very elegant in the uniquely detailed dress and even the low neckline was in good taste, instead of attention hogging cleavage. There’s not much more we can say about it: we’re obsessed with Emma’s style.
News of the World, one of those super reputable British papers, is reporting that Emma Watson’s designing her own line of clothes.
For teenagers of course, with all profits going toward UNICEF and with advice from Karl Lagerfeld.
So basically that’s not true.
But since signing on as the face of Burberry we’ve heard more than one whisper she’ll design a range for the British label. Probably accessories and probably not targeted at teenagers since well, Burberry couldn’t be less teenager-y.
Emma’s clearly had the fashion bug since she started wearing Chanel couture to her premieres at eleven and while we bitch and moan about celebrity lines like it’s our job (is it?), we might not mind seeing what the Harry Potter star comes up with - especially with Christopher Bailey at the creative helm.
Emma Watson has emerged as quite the young fashion star—from wearing Rodarte and hanging with Daphne Guinness to shooting with Mario Testino for the new Burberry ads that will break in August magazines, where she looks like the picture of youthful sophistication.
And with each move, we love her more and more.
Now, if only we could groom our young American stars to grow up in the spotlight with as much style and grace as the girl best known as Hermione. We suppose Dakota Fanning is holding her own, but other examples elude us.
Christopher Bailey said of Emma, “Her charm, intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.” We can hardly imagine any designer saying the same of one of our teen queens.

While reading Vogue UK this morning, I tripped over the casual use of “stylista.” The editors refer to Emma Watson as one in their boring non-story about how she doesn’t use a stylist. I meditated on the possible meanings while walking to work, and it went something like this:
1. Would I call someone a stylista? Isn’t that almost derogatory? As in, “Haha you look like someone on that show” ?
2. Do they have Stylista in England? Do they know how icky it is?
3. Why didn’t they call her a fashionista? Is this a case of elevator/lift translation? Or something more sinister?
4. Would I even call someone a fashionista? Or is that kind of wannabe, too? Is it only acceptable for blogs (hah)?
5. Ooh, I really want those shorts from Marc, are they on sale somewhere?

Chanel starts at 10:30 am.
Cross the Pont Alexandre III to the Grand Palais. Graciously accept my pre-show goodie bag of Chanel No.5, though wish I had coffee to go with it.
Realize how serious it is that I’m at Chanel, especially when Lauren Santo Domingo graciously accepts her not-front-row seat. Notice that she positions herself right behind Emma Watson, guaranteed picture placement that way. Zoe Kravitz, Mario Testino, Claudia Schiffer and Clemence Poesy squeeze into same row.
Stare at the giant 31 Rue de Cambon facade. Our House blares. Everyone giggles. Karl sends tweed suits, black stockings and frothy gowns down the runway. A lot of it is, all together now, SHEER.
Coco is here! She’s hiding underneath a black veiled hat. Between the girls and Karl’s bow, boys emerge. Five, including Sebastian, wearing tight suits and beacoup des bijoux.
Our House plays again, Karl prolongs his bow and the glass ceiling shakes with the roar of the audience.
A perfect conclusion, for me at least, of Paris Fashion Week.
For some reason, I had big expectations for Fashion Fringe.
Maybe it’s because some super cool designers have emerged from it and I thought I might see the next big thing. Or it could’ve been because Tom Ford was a judge and I have a huge crush on him. But it could be because when I walked in, the front row names read: Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger, Dita Von Teese, and Princess Beatrice.
But in the end, it was about the clothes. (Well, sort of. I did get a huge kick out of seeing Emma Watson end up in Jerry Hall’s seat and next to Dita. And it was kind of amazing to watch Donatella Versace walk straight into Faran).
The competition included four designers. The first showed an all-white collection inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker which sounds doomed for failure but actually ended up the winner (Eun Jeong Hong’s line, Go By a Secret Path). The second featured super cute, super wearable brightly colored dresses. The third went on print overload with more than a little Miu Miu influence. And the fourth, well the fourth kid was banking on Donatella’s vote and showed a parade of vampy dresses set off with dark lipstick.
Do I think I saw the next Chris Kane or Gareth Pugh? No. But I had fun.
I got to Earl’s Court fifteen minutes before the Vivienne Westwood show was scheduled to start in anticipation of masses.
I didn’t, however, anticipate being crushed by papparazzi once inside. I can’t be sure whether they were violently snapping pictures of Dita Von Teese’s heaving chest or Pamela Anderson’s obscene breasts, but they definitely weren’t interested in demure Emma Watson across the way.
The show opened and closed with Jourdan Dunn, and Daisy Lowe awkwardly sandwiched in between. British superstar Alexa Chung, (seriously, she’s like A-list-movie-star-famous over here), took a surprising turn on the runway, too. And for the record, she walks like Lowe’s complete and total opposite - give her a few more inches and a bit more attitude, and she’s right up there with Trentini.
Meanwhile, the clothes. Think The English Patient meets classic Vivienne Westwood. Then think Velvet Goldmine meets classic Viv. Oh, and the model without a shirt? I won’t tell you what to think.
Going to one of Westwood’s shows was a major moment for me - so please excuse the shitty pictures - I needed to soak it all in without digital camera interference.
Hermione, um, Emma Watson, is the new face of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle.
The 18-year old, who’s signed with Storm modeling agency, has worn Chanel in public for as long as we can remember but this is the first official partnership between the two. And aside from the copious amounts of dresses and shoes she’ll surely continue to earn, she’ll be paid a sweet $6 million.
The contract will reportedly be announced next month, right before Keira Knightley’s contract runs out, which will make Emma, the youngest girl to grace the cover of Teen Vogue, the youngest face of Chanel.
So Karl, please dress the girl in more than just a bowler hat.
Update: Oh no! Chanel says that Emma for Coco Mademoiselle is “100% not true.” So sad, we thought she’d be cute.
