True Life: I’m A Nail Polish Addict

rescuebeautyglitterpolishes.jpgIt’s true. I can’t stop myself. I love the feeling I get when I glance down and see a flash of cool on my digits.

Abby says she would call for an intervention except that she likes seeing what I show up with every day. (She also just told me about Rescue Beauty Lounge - who make this amazing glitter polish - I might have to go directly after work.)

Currently, I’m rocking a horizontal-striped double-Essie combo (Aruba Blue topped with Bermuda Shorts). I live for the Sally Hansen nail pens, and fully see some lightning bolts in my nail future. I also love vertical stripes and painting each nail a different color.

And I will forever maintain that being the person who comes up with the names of nail polishes is undeniably the most amazing job ever. Reading the label on the bottom of a nail polish bottle brings me endless joy.

Are you as obsessed as I am? What is your go-to nail hue?

Jewel Of The Nail

essiepolishbottle.jpegWe heart Essie nail polish. Really, what would the world be without Ballet Slippers? And we totally swooned the first time we saw those neon shades they’re doing.

But until today, we never thought anything of major value could come out of our manis. (Unless you count breaking a nail biting habit.)

The polish people are teaming up with jewelry designer Judith Ripka on three shades: Put A Ripka Ring On It (soft pink), Heart My JR Jewels (deep burgundy), Queen Of Hearts (true red).

Now that’s all fine and lovely. We’re not big Ripka wearers, but she does make some very pretty things and these colors are delish.

No, what we’re excited about is the three bottles that will contain a little something extra. One will hold a diamond, one an emerald, and one a sapphire. Owner Essie Weingarten swears the stones will just need a little polish remover before you do with them what you will.

It all sounds very Willy Wonka with his golden tickets. And while we realize the chances of finding one aren’t the greatest (and the packaging will prevent cheating!) But that won’t stop us from trying come August.

“Is That Red 90210 Red?”

essie beverly hills bottle.jpgApparently, 90210 is the zip that keeps on giving.

Because believe it or not, there’s not one, not two, but four separate nail polishes dedicated to the city of ostentatious wealth. Kind of ironic in these times of financial strife, no?

OPI’s three-piece 90210 collection is based, unfortunately, on the new craptastic CW show. Props to the brand for the idea, but where were you when the original and far superior show was a weekly ritual? I would have been all over a Brenda nail polish like, well, Brenda on Dylan.

Alas, the three polishes are themed on lackluster Annie, Silver and Naomi. Though unlike their namesakes, all three shades are versatile and complementary, with the crimson and shimmery purple at $8.50 each and available now.

Not to be outdone, Essie’s teamed up with the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitor’s Bureau to create Love, Beverly Hills xx. The shade, available this month, is a racy red (at left) with a golden shimmer courtesy of actual 24 karat pure gold. Of course.

So in case you were wondering (and we totally know you were), the official color of Beverly Hills isn’t black (as in AmEx or Lauren Conrad’s shade of choice) or platinum (as in wedding band) - it’s rich and shiny red.

Mena Suvari’s Totally Awesome Nail Polish

mena pull.jpgFaran took Britt to Andy Warhol’s 80th birthday last night. They drank hot pink Velvet Edie cocktails and met Mena Suvari. It went like this:

Britt: Ok Faran, don’t freak out, but look at her nail polish.

Faran: Oh. Wow.

Mena smiles.

Faran: Hi Mena, you look amazing. Can we take a picture of your nailpolish?

Mena: Sure! Isn’t it great? It’s from Essie’s new neon collection.

Faran: What’s it called?

Mena: Bermuda shorts I think?

Britt: I have on “Short Shorts,” pointing at her toes, I’m obsessed. Your hair looks kind of amazing by the way - it’s so Andy.

Faran: How long did it take you to do that?

Mena: My friend Alex did it. It took about an hour and a ton of hairspray. It’s in that awkward growing out stage so I have to get creative.

Faran: Well it looks amazing.

Mena: Thank you!
