Freja: The Music Video

Well, not exactly. But that’s what this behind-the-scenes video feels like, in the best way. Freja’s shooting for the just-launched this week British hardcover magazine Twin, which currently has the fashion world buzzing. We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy.

The Boo George shoot looks hot. We loved the song, “Into the Dark” by Sister. And we have no problem admitting that we were not musically cool enough to recognize it without the credits.

Enjoy two-plus of Freja goodness on this Thursday afternoon!

Fashion Is Fun

The Fashion Clique

frejabaptistelarafashionhighschool.jpgTo say that the fashion industry is like high school is nothing new, but it’s also totally true. Which is why I love this Vanity Fair piece wrapping up the SS10 season with yearbook-style awards for different designers and collections.

We pretty much agree with their choices. Prabal Gurung was definitely on our Most Likely to succeed list. And Mary Kantrantzou for Best Nerd and we like Christopher Kane for Biggest Flirt. Though perhaps our favorite was the cutest couple, which is actually a threesome: Lara, Freja, and Baptiste.

A few more high school-themed suggestions that came to mind are Tory Burch for Class Treasurer because really who does sell-able better than she does at this point? That would be one profitable class. Plus I found this season much cooler than usual. Monique Lhuillier can head up the prom committee with all her pretty party dresses. And Alexander McQueen is for sure in charge of the A/V club.

So who do you elect to Class Council? And who gets your superlatives?

Making Out at Chanel

chanel ss10 .jpgThe recession might not be over, but Chanel couldn’t care less.

While last season’s show remained elegant and subdued, this season Karl went all out with Halloween worthy decorations, live music and a spectacular collection.

The designer’s time in Vermont has turned him positively country. Hay covered the aisles and floors and even the benches were covered with sleeves of distressed brown jute, stamped with double ‘C’s naturally.

Heidi Mount opened, at the sound of a rooster’s crow, and the rest of the girls popped out of a haystack in the middle of the Grand Palais. Eventually, Lily Allen popped out, too - she’s probably the only face of Chanel to perform her talent mid-show - and gave the collection an upbeat soundtrack.

The clothes however, were almost Victorian with swathes of gauze and big collars; Karl’s rocker edge came through with skinny pants, chain belts and tough boots. Though there were clogs, too, paired with tiny party dresses. It was classic Chanel, which means everyone loved it.

But no one loved as much as Freja and Lara, who jumped Karl’s new favorite Baptiste in the haystack and then enjoyed their own kiss, sans boy. For a show that’s always in the same place at the same time, you really never know what’s going to happen.

True Life: I Snuck Into Narciso

intro.jpgBritt sent me to Tibi last night, while she took her seat at the big tent next door for Narciso.

But then I snuck in and got a better seat than her. Thanks to my new photographer friends I sat in the pit, teared up over Anne V., met Narciso and had the greatest night of my life.

So there I was, face-to-face with Narciso Rodriguez’s SS10 collection. It was half classic Narciso and half total departure. There were cutouts and zippers, but there was also air; his spectacular finale dresses in grey, white and black billowed away from the body. He built cocoons over the models’ legs and though everything was feminine and sexy it was indisputably strong. He repeated exaggerated hips and bell silhouettes, the latter best executed on Anne V’s mud cloth coat. It’s like he used the strong silhouette as a shell to keep the wearer fashionably safe.

Post-show, Freja said she was terrified she’d trip and fall on her dress’ long train (though of course she walked seamlessly) and if I hadn’t ended up talking to Narciso that would’ve been the highlight of my day. But then I somehow fell into line between Simon Doonan and Emmy Rossum to congratulate the designer. Simon told me “ladies first” and shooed me over to Narciso who hugged me and said, “Thank you.”

And then I called my mom and cried.

Erin Wasson Likes To Party

wassonss10-5.JPGWe expressed some concern earlier about whether or not Erin Wasson would be able to fill the largest venue at Bryant Park for her RVCA show. But fill it she did with a rowdy crowd for the evening show.

I was surrounded by some hard-partying downtown types who seemed to have a huge fondness for whiskey and getting in the way of me taking pictures. So apologies for these kinda sucking!

Also on hand, Little J, doing her own downtown indie rocker thing, complete with sheer thigh high tights and messy hair extensions. Bruce Willis and model/wife Emma Hemmings came in just before the show started and smiled for a few pics. And while I couldn’t see them, I heard from @Modelinia that Behati and boyfriend Jamie Strachan were smooching in the front row.

Gang Gang Dance played live, complete with a dude whose sole purpose seemed to be waving a garbage bag flag. I was definitely not musically groovy enough to have known who they were right away. But the experimental indie-ness of their sound is exactly what I imagine Erin Wasson being into.

Freja opened in the show, baring midriff. And Lily closed in a floor length Victorian bed jacket ensemble. In between there were lots of denim, slouchy tees, and Irina in stripes. It was hipster meets hippie meets Erin Wasson, who danced out to raucous applause and cheers at the end of the show.

And seriously, if anyone can explain the garbage bag flag, shoot me an email.
