Mid-Day Snack

1973 french vogue via garance.jpgphoto courtesy garance doréSwan Song: Garance got her hands on a brilliant French Vogue from 1973. Sylvie Vartan’s on the outside and Ungaro’s on the inside. {Garance}

Future’s Too Bright: Alexander Wang’s teamed up with Linda Farrow for super awesome SS10 sunglasses. Nylon snapped a picture at MAGIC in Vegas. {Nylon}

Hilfiger’s New Man: Word is Peter Som might be hired on as a consultant at Tommy Hilfiger. He wouldn’t be our first guess, but he makes a helluva a lot more sense than Miguel Adrover who was apparently on the short list. {WWD}

Inspiring Movements: Jezebel explains why we need Lady Gaga. We seriously can’t wait to see this art-installion like VMA performance with fashion that is a “representation of the most stoic and memorable martyrs of fame in history.” Bring it, G. {Jezebel}

Rings On My Fingers, No Bells On My Toes

robindra unsworth rings.jpgEver since I posted that picture of Alia Shawat in mid-day snack, I’ve been scouring the internet for rings. (Actually, ever since LSD landed her own jewelry spread in French Vogue, I’ve been scouring stores, sidewalks and the internet for the perfect stackable rings.)

Alia’s are Denise Azira, Pamela Love and Matina Amanita from right to left, but I’m looking for something slightly more feminine.

These, from Robindra Unsworth, are kind of perfect - mostly because they’re imperfect and will go with any other jewelry I decide to wear. I love that they’re both silver and gold and I could probably squeeze a totally different ring in between the two to toughen things up.

Here’s hoping they get here before fashion week.

Would You Wear a Huge Nose Ring?

irisvp6[1].jpgIris Strubegger is rocking a lot of gaudy glitz for August’s French Vogue, but the one bling that really stood out for us was her septum piercing (we’re assuming it’s faux…)

We’ve always been into the traditional nose ring, but not so much one that resembles what bulls wear in their snouts. Okay, the one Iris is wearing is purposefully over the top. Tasha Tilberg wore her more subdued version for i-D ’s June/July issue.

Allergy issues aside (spring pollen being the reason we’ve never gone for a nose ring), would you put a ring through your septum? Tasha does look kind of badass with the tinier hoop, but we think we’d just look silly.

Life With Rolando! Part II

rolando!.jpgSo once I got over my line of Olsen questioning I finally got down to business.

If there’s a common thread among the people I’ve interviewed, it’s their nostalgia for a time when talent was enough, when you worked hard and made your way up the chain to the ridiculously successful place in which they all sit now instead of these days when everyone wants a piece of the industry and who you know becomes more important than what you know.

In Part II, we talk about how Rolando ended up at Bumble & bumble, Fashion Week work versus editorial work, being on a plane with Charlie’s Angels and his Madonna moment - because really, everyone has one.

terry & eniko eat bananas.jpgNudie Ladies: Finally, outtakes from Terry Richardson’s Pirelli Calendar shoot. WARNING: There are lots and lots and lots of naked boobies. {VanityFairIT}

Hallelujah: Is there anything wrong with the fact that only one photographer and one model have been booked for the August issue of French Vogue? Not when Inez & Vinoodh are shooting Daria. {WWD}

Are You Ready: It’s that time of year, when the fashion blogosphere holds its breath in anticipation of Fall ads. So far, Marc Jacobs throws Natasa V out the window and Calvin Klein casts Jourdan Dunn. {TheFashionSpot & Fashionologie}

Mellow Yellow: Have you seen this yellow Margiela clutch Sea of Shoes Mom has? It’s amazing. Also, Sea of Shoes Daughter is designing shoes for Urban Outfitters, but we’re not supposed to know that. {SeaOfShoes}

Life With Rolando! Part I

rolando pull image.jpgSorry for the minor Life With gap - we’ve been busy!

We’re getting back in the swing of things, so meet Rolando Beauchamp.

He’s a Bumble & bumble super stylist who does both editorial and runway work. And oh yeah, he styles Mary-Kate Olsen’s hair for most major events in New York.

I fell for him backstage at Vivienne Westwood’s AW09 Gold Label show in Paris this past March while we both kind of passed out from the joy of being in a basement with Dame Viv, Pam Anderson and a bunch of models for a few hours. He’s vivacious, friendly and so fun to talk to. So when I wanted a Life With a stylist, he was my first choice.

We sat down to talk hair (obviously), growing up on the Lower East Side in the 60’s, Olsens, divas and his dream gig (are you there Carine?).

You know the drill. Part II tomorrow!

B for Beauty

Tom Pecheux to Design Makeup Line

tompecheuxandmakeupline.jpgWe’re starting to hear rumors that fabulously talented makeup artist Tom Pecheux is in talks to create his own line with a major cosmetics company.

From what we’ve heard, this is not likely to be a simple one-off collaboration, but indeed a brand under his name. We like the sound of this a lot.

As a former beauty editor, one of the first things I do when I look at an editorial is check out who did the hair and makeup. Well, after I’ve tried to make my educated guess first. More times than I can count, it’s Tom on makeup. Seriously, there’s not much the man hasn’t done from Balmain ads to YSL shows to French Vogue editorials.

The Great Pants Debate

bcbgcoralbodysuit.jpgLots of people around here are very anti-pants these days. Many of you disagree, so let the discussion continue!

We present you with a very direct “to pants or not to pants” challenge.

This fabulous draped bodysuit from BCBG (on sale right now for about $59) has the potential to go either way. It is a super chic coral color, and we love the exaggerated draping of the silhouette, and the bow detail in back.

We plan on pairing our bodysuit with a high-waisted skirt and the fact that we won’t have to constantly re-tuck our shirt has us way excited.

Are you brave enough to go Gaga and wear yours sans bottoms?

Models

One of These Is Not Like The Others

i wanna be a supermodel.jpgWe went to tap off Taxi TV this morning when we saw Cindy Crawford walking down a runway and were like, “Whoa.”

And then we watched her entire Raymour and Flanigan furniture commercial. She talked about how fashion used to be her life but now function’s more important and while she’ll always have a place in her heart for the industry that made her super famous, she’s way more concerned with furniture design these days.

And then we started thinking about how Cindy Crawford’s kind of always been around and her face has been in like every single commercial/ad since she stopped landing Vogue covers. Which made us wonder, if she’d just disappeared for a bit, could she be hawking things like Prada and DSquared and Chanel instead of denim-covered couches?

Cindy’s arguably the richest, best known name of the supers, but she’s also the only one seriously lacking high fashion cred - we’ll take a moment to acknowledge her amazing November 08 French Vogue spread, but just because Carine missed her doesn’t mean designers are going to write a huge paycheck to put their clothes on her when she’s the face of a million products - and we wonder if that bothers her.

If you were a super, would you rather be a Cindy or a Linda?

Magazines

Lara Stone for French Vogue: Confirmed

Lara Stone So yes, Lara Stone will have an entire issue of French Vogue just for her.

But unlike Kate Moss’ “guest edit” stint from ‘06, she won’t have any creative control over the magazine - no styling, no writing, just 100+ pages of Lara rocking out.

When we asked someone at French Vogue why, she just said, “Have you ever met Lara Stone? If you met her, you would know. She’s an amazing person.”

Well okay, then.

We’re not gonna argue with the shooting star of a girl whose hips and breasts are - dare we say it - normal, and if she’s cool as hell?

Even better.

Lara, good luck on your journey.
