Fashion Is Fun

September Nightlife

mfl-fashion[1].jpgWe are so excited for September.

While the official list won’t be released until August 17th, we just received a huge rundown of events for Fashion’s Night Out, the New York City fashion celebration this September 10th. Over 300 retailers in all five boroughs have already signed up to party from 6pm to 11pm. We’re a little overwhelmed by it…in a good way.

We already told you about Alex Wang at Barney’s. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Also at Barney’s? The Olsen twins (girl crush times two!), Jonathan Adler and Lisa Perry, on hand to teach you how to knit. After you learn, you can knit a square to be included in a blanket to be sold to benefit the September 11th Memorial Fund.

Three for the Price of One

one of these things is not like the other.jpgWe’ve been pretty into Urban Outfitter’s collaborations.

We welcome Steven Alan in any form and surfed through Spring Fashion Week in a couple of Hawks by Geren Ford tops.

They’re dressy and sexy and less than $100.

They’re also, apparently, the same exact design as Geren Ford’s main line - or at least this one particular Gather Ruffle Neck Top is. The blouse-y top comes in silk on Shopbop for $258 or a rayon/polyester/spandex blend for $88 at Urban Outfitters. (Also, the silk one’s dry clean only which adds about $100 to its lifetime cost.)

There’s also this: the Rivet Back Tank on Shopbop for $220 or the Grommet Back Tank at Urban for $88. Not exactly the same, but close enough. And because it’s all made by the same designer, there’s no copy guilt.

Just in case you were about to spend your hard earned recession-era pennies on Shopbop and you don’t particularly mind fake silk.

Adventures in Copyrights: Ruffle Wars

aic geren ford forever 21.jpgFact: We’ve been fans of Geren Ford ever since they became a regular on ShopBop.

Fact: We really don’t like knock offs, especially when they’re of designers that are still trying to establish themselves.

So we were pretty annoyed when reader Sabrina sent in this Forever 21 take on Geren Ford’s Ruffle Dress, at left.

Forever’s is basically a carbon copy except for a slightly smaller opening at the neck with a safer color choice.

We’re not really fans of the original dress anyway, but since when is Geren Ford on F21’s radar?
