photo courtesy FWDOn its most basic level, Fashion Week means heels, ‘wichcraft and The Daily - the industry mag pumped full of juicy gossip and pretty pictures that occupies the hungry, waiting crowds.
It’s usually covered by a model, sometimes a designer or last year even Glenn O’Brien as the face of Interview’s mess. But this year we hear an entirely different type of person might grace a cover - Danielle from The Real Housewives of New Jersey and her recently signed to IMG daughter, Christine.
And in a weird Housewife twist, the mother daughter pair was shot by Gilles Bensimon. Half the shoot was solely Christine and if any of this actually does make a cover, we’ll bet on her solo appearance.
No word on just how jealous Kelly is right now.
So we haven’t weighed in much about all the drama that’s been going on at Interview this week, with Fabien Baron’s reinstatement as editorial director and the myriad changes that is bringing about.
But late yesterday The Daily got a hold of ousted editorial director Glenn O’Brien. And, wow, did he have a lot to say.
We’ve had some crappy jobs in our day…and some that didn’t end so pleasantly. But saying, on the record that “It’s like a Greek tragedy. Like watching a company going insane, instead of a person” is major for a media vet. And makes us seriously concerned about the state of affairs at their Soho offices.
We love Interview and always have. But it sounds like things are even messier than we thought. Is there any way that this magazine can survive, especially in this economy? In our opinion it doesn’t seem likely.
Divorce, Supermodel Style: Peter Brant’s security folks allegedly got a little hands-y with Stephanie Seymour this weekend. It’s all very War of the Roses. But are the only ones secretly hoping this leads to a reunion with Axl? {E!}
Even More Drama: Peter Brant is not having a good week. Things aren’t going so well with Glenn O’Brien over at Interview either. {WWD}
My Girl Wants to Party All the Time: Steven Meisel gets up in the club, ’80s style for Vogue Italia. {Models}
Going Swimmingly: Giles Deacon is launching swim. He researched the collection by hanging out poolside at the Chateau Marmont. Somehow he forgot to invite us to come along. {Vogue UK}

Wu’s New Lady: Iris Apfel will serve as inspiration for the designer’s resort show next week at the Greenwich Hotel. Bring on the eyewear, please. {FWD}
Scarlett’s Posing Again: Johansson is the new face of Mango in a campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti. She’s also recorded a Serge Gainsbourg/Brigitte Bardot-style album with Pete Yorn. Seriously. {Style} and {Billboard}
Random Fun Photo: We love when people find fashion (and Chanel) in the most unexpected of places. {J’AdoreJoey}
Before There Was Topshop: BIBA’s Barbara Hulanicki chats with Glenn O’Brien about drawing for Vogue, the mail order biz, and Barbie’s bad taste. {Interview}

1. Everyone here wears fur. Seriously, it’s incorporated into almost every outfit.
2. The only champagne I’ve seen was an empty bottle on the Boulevard Saint-Germain last night. 1-0 London.
3. I’ve been captivated by the politics of seating this season. In Paris, the Carines and Anna Della Russos sit in front, naturally, but I’ve seen Derek Blasberg and Glenn O’Brien sit second row while Kate Lanphear’s in the third.
4. Not fashion related, but they have pancakes at Starbucks. (I had to, it’s the only place I’m not embarrassed to order a coffee to take away).
5. A friend saw Charlotte Gainsbourg in the Shell (yes, gas station) mini-mart. She was browsing crackers.
6. The photo pits are huge.
7. There was a Fashion Week Daily reporter at Nina Ricci - but if they’re here where is the Parisian Daily???
“The thing about Rick is, it’s so classic. You can buy anything from the collection and wear it forever,” declared Heidi Mount pre-show at Ecole des Beaux-Artes.
One might question that judgment when the clothes are styled a la Rick and presented in a deep dark room with feathered headdresses and leather bubble boots, but overall, she’s right. Individually, his clothes are almost subtle, definitely delicate, and so brilliantly constructed.
Which is why the cream of the fashion crop swamps his shows. Today’s front row included Carine (of course, with Julia behind her), Ikram Goldman (Michelle Obama in Rick?!), Gareth Pugh, Julie Gilhart, Franca Sozzani, Kate Lanphear, Gloria Baume, Glenn O’Brien, Bill Cunningham and Morley Safer (whom I assume means Anna, though I didn’t see her). The first rate front row matched the first rate - though noticeably white - cast: Raquel, Iris, Stam, Olga, Vlada R, Ali S, Karlie, Daiane, Sasha, Heidi, Hanne - most of whom showed up wearing at least one thing Rick.
The futuristic, sometimes sparkly collection elicited actual hooting and hollering from the audience - the most excitement I’ve heard this season (aside from Chris Kane) until the Nina Ricci crowd actually broke into applause mid-show. More on that, coming up.

It’s here.
The new Interview, in all its Kate glory.
So of course, we had to share - though we highly suggest picking it up in person. You can’t really appreciate the cover until you shake it around under lights to make the foil cover do a fun little light dance.
Because we’re so in love with you all, we’ve posted Kate’s entire spread, and her interview with Glenn O’Brien, after the jump. (We skipped the Margiela piece because, really, it was an interview with Maison Martin Margiela, not the private Margiela one-on-one we’d hoped for.)
Click through to learn that Kate loves boobs, hates implants, and actually did, yes, think she was too thin back in the day…

We’ve always loved Interview - it might not be chock full of fashion but it’s oh so fun to read and it’s about to get even better.
While the masthead’s been morphing and the fashion’s increased, the official “new” Interview, complete with Contributing Fashion Editor Stephanie Seymour, won’t debut until September. In the meantime, we’ve already noticed better, more revealing interviews and an increasing amount of actual writers contributing to the magazine.
The new editorial staff has serious access and we’re looking forward to watching them milk it.
If you’ve already read the latest issue cover to cover and still aren’t satiated, Glenn O’Brien, Peter Brant, Stephanie Seymour and Marc Jacobs will all be on Charlie Rose tonight to talk about Andy Warhol and hopefully the relationship between art and fashion (PBS, 11pm).
