H&M Throws Sonia Rykiel A Parade

sonia rykiel hm ads.jpgAs H&M gets older and wiser, their collaboration launches get bigger and better.

Stella McCartney launched her line with a Gwyneth Paltrow and Dita Von Teese attended bash in an old schoolhouse, Matthew Williamson rocked a ship in the Hudson River with Grace Jones and now, Sonia Rykiel will celebrate her collection for the Swedish mega-brand with a parade and runway show in Paris on December 1.

It’ll be in the Grand Palais, home to Chanel’s runway blow-outs, and feature both the lingerie, debuting for holiday and the knitwear which launches next spring.

No word yet on who will sit front row, but given the star power of Sonia’s 40th Anniversary bash, we have big expectations. And with Lara, Caroline and Anne in the ads, we expect big models, too.

Please Don't Stop the Music

vhedirockcouture2.jpgWe’re kind of obsessing over these shots of Natalia from the upcoming issue of V, shot by Hedi Slimane and styled by Nicola Formichetti (who also did that awesome Gaga video we put up the other day.)

One, because we never tire of Ms.Vodianova. Two, because we love pretty much everything that Hedi shoots. Three, the gold eye makeup. And four, we’re suckers for music references mixed with couture.

Here’s what we’ve come up with so far: the last shot is oh-so very Madonna “Like A Virgin” both the video and the classic VMA performance. In the middle spread, we’re feeling a little Brit Brit nude bodysuit circa that rockin’ “Oops I Did It Again” at the 2000 VMAs while we’re getting Grace Jones vibes from the one on the right.

But we’re a bit stymied as to the opening spread shot. What do you think??? (Oh and be warned there’s a little bit of nipple action.)

Mid-Day Snack

karlandclaudiaargentina.jpgDon’t Cry For Her, Argentina: Claudia and Karl are tearing things up in Buenos Aires on the set of the Chanel Spring 2010 campaign shoot. Craft services is offering up “rich barbecue” though somehow we can’t see Karl chowing down on that. {Fashionologie}

Little Pink Houses: I’m from Indiana and we love all things Mellencamp. Especially supermodels who marry our favorite son and settle down in Bloomington. This video of Elaine Irwin Mellencamp just made me develop an even bigger girl crush. Also, it’s set to John’s music which always makes me smile. Hoosier Pride! {Modelinia}

Award Season: We didn’t even know there was a Harper’s Bazaar Cyprus. But there is and they just gave Jean-Charles de Castelbajac a Lifetime Achievement Award. {Fashion Insider}

Silver Screen Hamish: First he conquered the great outdoors and now Hollywood. Mr. Bowles has a cameo in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2. What’s next…The Great White Way? {Page Six}

Life With Rolando! Part I

rolando pull image.jpgSorry for the minor Life With gap - we’ve been busy!

We’re getting back in the swing of things, so meet Rolando Beauchamp.

He’s a Bumble & bumble super stylist who does both editorial and runway work. And oh yeah, he styles Mary-Kate Olsen’s hair for most major events in New York.

I fell for him backstage at Vivienne Westwood’s AW09 Gold Label show in Paris this past March while we both kind of passed out from the joy of being in a basement with Dame Viv, Pam Anderson and a bunch of models for a few hours. He’s vivacious, friendly and so fun to talk to. So when I wanted a Life With a stylist, he was my first choice.

We sat down to talk hair (obviously), growing up on the Lower East Side in the 60’s, Olsens, divas and his dream gig (are you there Carine?).

You know the drill. Part II tomorrow!

Matthew Williamson’s H&M Commercial

Just in case you haven’t heard, Matthew Williamson recently launched a collection for H&M.

There was a major London bash, a New York launch and then a Grace Jones-centric party on a boat in the Hudson and now, this commercial. Daria speaks, which is rare, and Matthew Williamson emerges from underground, which we imagine is also rare.

Grey-haired men, Dolce-shouldered models, pink horses and bikini-clad women star; at the end Matthew declares, “Well, I haven’t done it all, yet.”

What, exactly, does he have in store?

People Are Talking

Love Is Blind, We Are Not… And Neither Are You

grace_jones_99.jpg We’ve never given away a Love is Blind post before, but fine, here you go.

Grace Jones is the fashion icon singing at Matthew Williamson’s party with H&M tonight.

Not Debbie Harry.

Not Carla Bruni.

And not Grace Slick, of Jefferson Airplane / Jefferson Starship fame who - confession - we’ve confused with Grace Jones before.

But good luck trying to crash this party - it’s on a boat. In the middle of the Hudson.

And we’re good at finding a lot of things, but a dinghy with a motor that can careen up to the side of Matthew Williamson’s random yacht? That’s a little too Pirates of the Caribbean for us…

Fashion Is Fun

A Fashion Auction Like No Other

veruschka yves saint laurent.jpgMark Haddaway and Katy Rodriguez, the brilliant duo behind Resurrection, have been working on a project.

We’re so jealous, we might cry.

They’ve assembed what The Telegraph calls, “the most important [collection] to come up at auction.”

It includes original 1970’s Vivienne Westwood from both the legendary Seditionaries and Pirates collections. There are Paco Rabanne dresses and leather jackets from the 60’s and an entire, unworn look from Yves Saint Laurent’s 1968 Safari collection. There’s a 1986 zippered, hooded, green mini Alai that was in fact worn, but by Grace Jones, a python skin Ossie Clark coat and a few slinky Versace dresses circa Gianni.

Are you emptying your piggy bank yet?

If not, there’s also a group of dresses from Marc’s 1992 Grunge collection for Perry Ellis.

We’re kind of speechless. So in the words of Rachel Zoe, (since she’s probably the only one who can justify shelling out thousands for these pieces right now), “I die. D-I-E.”
