Streetwalker: Mommy & Me, Balmain Edition

detail streetwalker 1.jpgSarah, Buyer

Got Her: Rushing in and out of the bathroom pre-Guy Laroche at the Louvre.

Stalked Her: Because I couldn’t believe my eyes, was that a mom in Balmain?

Shot Her: Isn’t it obvious?

She Said: “I am a buyer for the department store Detail in Korea, and everything I am wearing is Balmain, except the t-shirt. It’s just a t-shirt. Oh, and the necklace is Erickson Beamon.”

We Said:
This is multi-tasking at its best.

Serious Security at Guy Laroche

larochess10-5.jpgWell, I’d have loved to tell you what Bumble and bumble were up to backstage at Guy Laroche, but I can’t.

For some reason, they keep this show on lock down like it’s Marc Jacobs, or this season, Burberry. In March, Britt and I had valid backstage all-access passes with our names printed on them and the man in charge still kept trying to kick us out. Even when we sat down for the show - in our seats - he shot evil looks until the lights went down.

And I can’t, after all of that, even remember what last season’s collection looked like. But I do remember that someone from Vogue UK was in attendance. This time around, I was the only person from a big publication. And who the hell am I?

The Whos Down in Who-ville The Louvre

guy larouche aw09 .JPGThe Who-hair at Guy Laroche made it easy to ignore the chunky sequin dresses and boxy jackets.

I went to the show because I’m still kind of obsessed with Hilary Swank’s Boys Don’t Cry Oscar dress - and even though Guy Laroche circa 2005 was designed by Herve Leroux (formerly Leger) and Guy Laroche circa 2009 is designed by Swede Marcel Marongiu, I was hoping for something of substance.

The show was small, in a room at the Louvre, and the models were good - Eniko Mihalik, Tanya D, Tasha Tilberg, Ali Stephens - but the clothes were made for the loyal customers sitting fifth row and the random New York socialites in the first. Those thigh high boots, however, a real leather version of the vegan friendly version Stella McCartney showed earlier in the morning, were made for the teenage models rocking them down the runway.

Backstage, before the show, more than one threatened to run off with them and I’ll admit, I was tempted.
