We’re kind of obsessing over these shots of Natalia from the upcoming issue of V, shot by Hedi Slimane and styled by Nicola Formichetti (who also did that awesome Gaga video we put up the other day.)
One, because we never tire of Ms.Vodianova. Two, because we love pretty much everything that Hedi shoots. Three, the gold eye makeup. And four, we’re suckers for music references mixed with couture.
Here’s what we’ve come up with so far: the last shot is oh-so very Madonna “Like A Virgin” both the video and the classic VMA performance. In the middle spread, we’re feeling a little Brit Brit nude bodysuit circa that rockin’ “Oops I Did It Again” at the 2000 VMAs while we’re getting Grace Jones vibes from the one on the right.
But we’re a bit stymied as to the opening spread shot. What do you think??? (Oh and be warned there’s a little bit of nipple action.)

We’re pretty sureYoungest Indie might be Hedi Slimane’s biggest fan and in his honor has created a Play-Doh/Claymation rock video with the band members wearing pieces from Hedi’s work at Dior Homme.
In an incredible collision of a post-fashion photographer and a post-Fashion Week celebrity, Hedi Slimane has taken a series of shots of Lindsay Lohan for, what looks like, just the fun of putting it up on his website.
Past subjects of Hedi’s online fashion diary include Lara Stone, a dog, and too many dirty young things to count.
So why has he suddenly turned his usually model-focused lens onto one of Perez Hilton’s most frequent subjects? (We can’t even get into the question of Lindsay’s appearance.) Could this be the beginning of an opposing exhibit to his celebrated Perfect Strangers tour?
Hedi Slimane’s photography resume (we imagine he has a separate one for design) is growing exponentially.
He just shot Prada’s Spring 09 ad campaign - for the boys of course.
The black and white images feature Louis and Claude Simonon, sons of The Clash’s Paul Simonon, looking more moody than punk. A statement from Prada said they focused on capturing the first time models in a state of “reflection and introspection”.
Meanwhile Steven Meisel shot at least eight girls including Toni Garnn for the women’s wear campaign.
Whether Miuccia chose the former Dior Homme designer for the boys because of his fame and influence on men’s fashion or because of his photo skills, we’ll never know.
If he got to shoot the women, too, then we’d know she was just as much a fan of Hedi’s work behind the camera as Karl was of his work on the runway.
He and Nicola Formichetti, the mag’s creative director, spent four nights roaming London’s streets and recruiting the cool kids - hipsters, club kids, fashion kids, jazz kids - on a nightly basis for morning shoots. They mixed those in with the especially stylish characters they’d been keeping on the backburner for a collection of aspirational black and white photos.
“The aim was to create a definitive record of London youth right now through Hedi’s timeless style,” said Formichetti.
Dazed asked teenagers to send in their answers to the question, “What does it mean to be young and British today?” and the thirty best answers accompany the images.
For once, we wish were still a teen - and for always we wish we were British.
Everyone loves to speculate what Hedi Slimane’s up to and whether he’ll return to fashion, and everyone includes us:
We just heard that Hedi has officially been picked up by Art + Commerce, the now IMG-owned powerhouse agency that took some baby steps into the fashion world this fall by starting their own casting division.
They’re representing him as a photographer, Hedi’s current career of choice, which he’s done without representation - until now.
So does this mean he’s officially a shutterbug rather than designer? Sadly, it looks that way, though we bet we’ll still see his name in Vogue Paris.

The Light & Sie gallery (129 Leslie Street, 214.745.2255 - Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5pm) is hosting a group exhibition called Sehnsucht (translated loosely from German, you get “longing” or “aspiration”) including photography from Vanessa Beecroft and Jeremy Kost (of RoidRage fame and Fashionista Fashion Week backstage coverage), alongside Hedi Slimane.
The works are meant to investigate the notion of beauty in contemporary art, and how it’s approached by artists working in a variety of mediums.
We won’t be in Dallas on July 31, but if you are, we urge you to go. And if you do, can you please ask Hedi about Dior Homme?
A little fashion spy in LA tells us that Dior Homme is trying to get Hedi Slimane back into place.
According to them, Kris Van Assche is feeling the same corporate bullshit that Hedi felt and has had it with the whole thing.
Meanwhile, Dior itself is realizing that perhaps the reason Dior Homme was so lucrative under Hedi was because he was awesome, not because they tried hard to micromanage him.
So… is Hedi going back into negotiations with Dior Homme?
We often wrestle with the question of underage babes in fashion, but usually, the models in question are girls like Chanel Iman, 17, Karlie Kloss, 16, and Ali Stephens, 16.
Now we’re fixated on a new rising model, but the difference is, he’s a boy.
The cutie in question is Hayes Peebles, a 16-year-old singer / songwriter from upstate New York who’s already been photographed by David Bailey for Teen Vogue.
Peebles was recently shot by Hedi Slimane, with photos of his muscular bare back - and his plastic Star Wars and Batman toys - posted on Hedi’s website.
We suspect they’re part of a bigger series for V Man magazine, but that’s just a well-placed hunch based on where we got the tipoff about the pictures.
Obviously, the bigger discussion about this is - well, should there be a bigger discussion?
Hedi Slimane doing jeans for Diesel might not be the most shocking rumor out there, but it does leave us wondering when denim lines became the new Target.
Though rumors of a Slimane/Diesel collaboration have been circulating for a while, WWD sounds confident the project will materialize soon. Apparently, Diesel owner Renzo Rosso aims to court an even more exclusive customer with the new Red Collection.
We hope the collection includes jeans for girls, too - and that they’re not so skinny we can’t wiggle our way into them.
So now, Alber’s at Acne, Hedi’s at Deisel, and Marc’s already done Wrangler - how about Luella for 18th Amendment?
Pic of a Rolls was on Hedi’s photo blog. This dude has a pic of Hedi he took in a gas station with the Rolls, a silver Spur. Will try to find it for you guys.
He says Hedi owns a few of them, t rex style.

Wow, we had no idea some of you guys were as into this as we are - so here you go, a picture of Hedi’s car, above. Maybe he’s trying to send us a message with that picture on his blog?
Or maybe we shouldn’t egg people on to take surreptitious pictures of him while he waits for his gas? Nah, we still want to know what he’s doing in California…
They may have lost their Editor-in-Chief to Interview, but they’ve gained a sequel to their wildly successful modeling contest, V A Model. Their first winner, Amanda Laine, got a shoot with Mario Testino, a contract with Supreme, and the opening slots at McQueen and Miu Miu (what?!). She also closed Louis Vuitton (double what?!).
Now V opens their contest to boys. If you win, you’ll score the cover of V Man (which recently had Brad Pitt as its star), plus a photo shoot with Hedi Slimane and a contract with Ford Models.
Clearly, these stakes are huge, so if you think you look like Ashton Kutcher in his pre-Demi days, zoom on over and good luck!
