Didn’t think you’d be able to find a great design internship until next semester? Think again.
Helmut Lang needs an intern, immediately, for the rest of this year and into next.
Candidates need to be available a minimum of two full days per week, but ideally would be able to do three or more. You’ll be working in the design department, and would help the team create flats (candidates must know how to flat by hand), prepare boards, organize and maintain notebooks, and assist with creating cut tickets.

Last August in Vogue, Kate Moss named two things she’d never wear: sneakers with an evening dress and sweatpants.
But even though Ms. Moss refuses to wear sweatpants, the trend’s been gaining momentum and is now solidly in the spotlight.
Back in November, Alexander Wang—prince of the laid-back, but still sexy, look—put up some sweat and thermal shorts. Now we’re seeing them pop up in Resort collections. Helmut Lang and Rag & Bone (pictured) did their own slinky versions, and today Garance shared a fun and easy DIY with us: cuffed sweat shorts created from sliced American Apparel jogging pants.
We’re big fans of sweats (we love our AAs as much as Garance loves hers) and are glad they’re getting a make-over. Are sweatpants the new leggings? After all, we kinda felt that leggings had run their course once they started pretending to be jeans and loose grey cotton’s far more forgiving then spandex bike shorts.
We’ll be watching to see who picks up on this trend and how many different ways one can do something funky and new with sweats.

We have a question for the brand 5Preview.
And it has nothing to do with the pricing structure of a variation on a men’s white tee, because we could ask the Helmut Langs of the world that same thing.
What we’d really like to know from the company, which we found on IDon’tLikeMondays (we don’t either) is how are you basically plastering Chanel’s logo all over tees and using the Marc by Marc by Marc template and font on others?
There’s nothing sneaky about the interlocking ‘C”s and the recognizable format. And while No.221 isn’t No.5, they do add up. And even Marc’s tees are less than $87.
So they’re basically selling a $10 Canal street knock-off, packaged as a $129 “underground Italian sensation.”
We’re not buying it.

The new GOOP just landed in our inbox.
We didn’t even make it past the introductory note to Gwyneth’s sure to be groundbreaking Spring wardrobe suggestions because she mentioned she’d done a bit of spring cleaning, the highlights of which landed in her GOOP e-bay store.
She’s selling off some mind-blowing, probably barely worn, stuff including a handful of Chanel bags, dresses from Balenciaga, Michael Kors, tops from Helmut Lang and Marni, Prada, Proenza and Vivier shoes.
Clothes are in the 4/6 range, shoes are size 8.5/9, bags are for everyone and prices are insanely low at the moment- $62 for the Proenza shoes, $146 for the Balenciaga dress.
Profits from the auction go to Robin Hood Foundation, a New York charity that targets poverty within the city. So say what you will about Gwyneth, but you know you’d get a kick out of owning her particular Burberry studded sandals via charity.

Ariel and Charlotte, both aspiring stylists.
Got Them: Walking down Mott St. and enjoying the sunny day.
Stalked Them: Well, we didn’t really have to. We were sitting on our stoop eating ice cream. But we did jump up, camera ready!
Shot Them: Because we couldn’t let this adorable duo pass us by. Their innovative style is fresh and eye-catching - both girls rock florals in their own unique way.
They Say: “We’re job hunting, NYU grads trying to start a business! The shoes are Helmut Lang and this is my brother’s old t-shirt.”
We Say: Two stylish girls are better than one!

Yesterday Hedi Slimane gave his first interview since leaving Dior in February to French newspaper Le Monde.
Hedi discusses his departure, saying that the issue was his desire to start designing womenswear. This wasn’t possible under the Dior name.
Hedi says that when he announced to Dior in January that he intended to quit, Bernard Arnault tried to convince him to stay by agreeing to finance Hedi’s own label. But negotiations broke down over the use of Hedi’s name, which Slimane refused to sell, saying that he views Helmut Lang’s story as a cautionary tale—
Helmut sold the rights to his name, and a label called Helmut Lang is currently being designed by ex-Habitual founders Nicole and Michael Colovos. The label has transitioned from being a high end designer brand to a mid-priced contemporary line (something you buy at Barneys Co-Op, not Barneys). Helmut is not involved in any capacity.
Hedi also talks about bringing hedonism to menswear, how a brand that doesn’t have a foundation in youth can’t be modern, and how he’s always really photographing the same person.
If your French is up for it, we recommend reading the whole interview—
Ours is a bit rusty, but we’re glad we did.

Last year, my friend Jordan called me.
“Nicholas Andreas Taralis,” he said. “It’s amazing. I can’t get over it.”
I’d never heard of him before, but I rushed online to find his clothes, and also to find myself agreeing with Sarah Mower, who wrote how the designer made her think “all over again, of the huge void left by Helmut Lang.”
Though Taralis has yet to take off commercially, he’s just accepted a very interesting offer to do his own capsule collection for UNIQLO.
Right now, the collection will only release in Japan and Europe, though if it’s successful - and if the industry here clamors loud enough for it - there’s certainly potential for an American crossover.
So please UNIQLO, bring us the Nicholas!

New York did a story on Helmut Lang’s thank you notes - apparently, he keeps the ones he receives from fashion and movie luminaries, and he’s almost ready to exhibit them to the public!
Inspired, we offer this challenge: Can you match the Helmut Head to the note they wrote for the designer? Place your bets, then read the magazine for the answer.

Olivier Zahm: 44
Got Him: At the Maurice Villency store on 58th St., Midtown
Stalked Him: Actually, the founder of Purple Magazine snatched US away from our party companions because he liked our mini skirt!
Shot Him: Because he said “why are you not taking my picture?” And because we love a man who mashes prints together.
He Says: “The jeans are very old Helmut Lang, and the shirt is Prada… I like that when I go to parties, everyone can tell I’m not American. American men don’t dress like this.”
We Say: Can we try what you’re smoking?
