Boss Black Makes Black the Boss

graeme black to boss black.jpgGraeme Black, the Scottish designer who walked away with this year’s Scottish Fashion Award and put in significant time at both Armani and Ferragamo, has just been appointed a “Creative Consultant” for Boss Black, the more formal section of Hugo Boss’ womenswear collection.

Apparently, the only thing that made him stop and question whether or not it was the right move was the idea of once again traveling for work, but he’ll be able to keep his eponymous collection, which Tim Blanks called, “strictly old-school,” while going back and forth to Germany.

Hopefully he’ll bring something new school, and less old-money, to Hugo Boss, maybe even a spark or two?

Black’s first collection for the label will debut next February for AW10.

Got Her: At the Guggenheim’s Hugo Boss Prize 2008 party.

Stalked Her: Actually it was more like shimmied up beside her while dancing.

Shot Her: Because she was rocking out in a Giambittista Valli dress, fishnets, and perfect patent pumps with a drink in hand on the sloping Guggenheim floors as if it were the easiest thing in the world

She Says: “I’m here for the art! I wore the Valli because it’s very structural and that seemed appropriate for a party in these walls.”

We Say: You should wear that dress everywhere, Guggenheim or not.

Speaking of Snejana…

snejana.jpgWe hear the spindly babe is the new face of Hugo Boss for Fall ‘08.

That’s good news for her, because that campaign pays way too much.

It’s also interesting because it means S.O. will be taking over for Irina Lazareanu, whose bohemian lifestyle and rocker sensibilities were transformative to the industry over the past five years - would Meghan Collison and Daisy Lowe have garnered such stomping hype if Irina hadn’t paved their path? We don’t think so, and we’re also not convinced that Karl Lagerfeld would have glommed onto Amy Winehouse so hard if he hadn’t glammed Irina first.

The shift from IL to SO in the Hugo campaign might be signaling a bigger shift in the upscale mass market, away from rock riot and towards another wave of peasant chic.

Or maybe Irina was just too busy recording her album and running through the Eurorail with Pete Doherty to get her photo taken in straight leg slacks and crisp collared shirts again.
