Intern With the Boys

gq ryan gosling interns.jpgGQ needs interns.

They’d like a handful of highly-motivated, professional, and experienced interns to work in their fashion department.

It’s unpaid, duh it’s Condé Nast, but you will learn a lot! Normal day-to-day responsibilities include managing the closet, handling incoming and outgoing samples, assisting editors on projects ranging from storyboards to store pulls, and general office support for the entire department.

They’ll pick the most detail-oriented, highly organized multi-taskers who thrive in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in the fashion industry is a must, so is living in New York. They’re looking for spring interns, but they’re also interested in anyone who can start now and work throughout the year.

You can e-mail your résumé and cover letter (as attachments) to gqfashion_intern@yahoo.com, with “GQ FASHION INTERNSHIP” in the subject heading.

Good luck!

But finally, we’ve got one that does! Guess is looking for someone to work in their public relations department for…$10/hour.

You’ll be trafficking samples, keep the showroom all nice and presentable, maintaining the databases, and helping out with press previews and market appointments for Guess, Guess by Marciano, and G by Guess.

They’re looking for candidates that are at least sophomores in college, but recent grads can feel free to apply too.

And you get paid. Hooray!! If you’re interested, click here to apply.

A Real Intern’s City Issues

whitney-roxy.jpgOn Tuesday night the second season of The City premiered on MTV. I’ve been stewing over the new episode since it aired, and I’m not sure why I still watch a show that never fails to frustrate me.

I’m a recent college grad and current industry intern, who has spent hours sending in dozens of internship applications only to get one response. I know what it’s like to spend an entire day in the fashion closet of a major publication, and how grueling it is to write up entire racks of clothes and then wheel them around town. Conveniently, none of the unpleasant aspects of fashion internships are ever depicted on the show.

By now it’s no secret that much of the action on The City is staged, but its classification as a “reality show” blurs the line between the real and the fake. Younger girls who are in the target demographic might not realize that breaking into the fashion industry isn’t so simple, and doesn’t provide instant perks. To be perfectly honest, growing up in Virginia and going to school at Tulane, I didn’t know the full scope of what a lot of jobs in the industry required until I had one. And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that fact.

Jack + Lazaro + You = The Perfect Internship

proenzainternship.jpg>That’s right, kids, Proenza Schouler’s on the lookout for new interns. [Insert excited screams here.] They told us themselves at the MAC/Milk forum that a huge chunk of their company’s employees are interns and we saw them running around town in The Day Before so we know you’ll be put to useful work.

Here’s the deal: They’re looking for design, production, and sales interns available to start now and make at least a two full day per week commitment for three months, but the more days you can work, the better. Bonus: You don’t need to be a student to apply.

You should be dedicated, independent, responsible, multi-tasking, hard-working, and have an all-around good attitude. Plus, you’ll need a working knowledge of garment construction and fabrics.

Nicole Miller Needs Interns!

alanazimmernicolemilleraw2009.jpgThe Public Relations department at Nicole Miller is in dire need of some fabulous interns to start at the end of this month and work at through October. Ideally they’d love to find a junior or senior undergrad majoring in fine arts, design, or something along those lines, but it’s not necessarily a requirement.

You guys know the basic drill. It’s a must that you love fashion, are crazy organized and don’t mind doing whatever is necessary to pull things together at the last minute. Such is life during show season.

Nicole’s showing on September 11th so you’ll definitely be super involved in pulling that together. You’ll also track samples, credits, assist with market research, as well as helping out the licensing department.

Intern? For Rachel Antonoff?

rachel antonoff aw10 interns.jpgEveryone wants the big internships, but it’s the little ones through which you’ll learn the most.

We can’t even fathom how much you’ll learn helping Rachel Antonoff prepare to show her SS10 collection next month.

She’s looking for four or five interns to help her out. If you’ve worked with a designer before, that’d be great, otherwise your love of fashion should be enough to get you started. If you need college credit, cool, if not, no problem.

Once Fashion Week prep starts, designers work pretty much around the clock so whether you want to work one day or four days a week is up to you, though like any internship or job, the more you put into it the more you’ll get out.

Are You a Model Intern?

modelinia needs interns and sasha will help.jpgModelinia is looking for both full and part-time interns starting now throughout the fall semester.

You must, of course, love models as well as the fashion industry. In order to do those, you’ll need basic knowledge of how an editorial website runs. Some sort of blogging, Photoshop, CMS and/or photo researching experience would be great, too. You should be articulate and organized and able to write fun posts and promotional copy if necessary. Having a positive, reliable, “can do” attitude is the number one requirement.

Camilla Nickerson Needs an Intern

camilla nickerson w editorial interns.jpgIt’s the ones like this that make us wish we were still in the intern phase of our lives - Camilla Nickerson needs an intern.

The super stylist, like super-duper stylist, has worked everywhere from American Vogue to W, on campaigns from YSL to Michael Kors and needs your help with a little bit of everything.

Experience is preferred, but enthusiasm and an insane passion for the industry can be equally as helpful. Like most fashion internships, it’s kind of an around the clock job so let’s say five days a week, from 9am to 5pm starting now and lasting through the summer. Needless to say it’ll probably be one of your top college experiences and determine whether or not you can survive the fashion industry.

With that said, email your resume and brief cover letter to jorden.bickham@gmail.com.

Bonne chance!
