Gucci Left Her Heart In London

jacquetta wheeler for gucci again.jpgJacquetta Wheeler’s the new Gucci girl.

Sort of, she was the face of Tom Ford Gucci ten years ago, but the British-born, New York-living model’s been in campaigns more Lord & Taylor and Banana Republic these past couple of years. Her most recent high fashion campaign was Ralph Lauren in 2005, but Frida Giannini got swept up in London’s energy while in town to re-open Gucci’s Sloane Street store and wanted a real life English girl for her Fall 09 campaign.

Jacquetta joins the more traditional Gucci girls Natasha Poly and Freja, as well as Raquel Zimmermann who at this point is a given for pretty much every campaign.

Frida really wanted to capture the London spirit so Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin are shooting the campaign in a studio in North London.

Explain: Why Was There a Bathtub at the Temperley Party?

1349089375_87987cde66.jpg Every season, Alice Temperley has an afterparty in her beautiful Soho store.

What most people don’t know is that her store is also her New York apartment, and a particularly spacious dressing room serves as the bedroom when she’s in town.

That means her store also has a nice little kitchen in the back, and a huge gorgeous bathtub - that she had flown in from Europe - in the “loo.”

Sometimes the bathtub holds ice and champagne, but last night it was bare - and so pretty, we had to take a picture.

Maybe it’s because we were yearning to re-condition our hair -

The party was strewn with Rachel Zoe, Jacquetta Wheeler, Padma Lakshmi, and a lot of hot British boys, and suddenly we were painfully aware of the frizz factor.

Lord and Taylor Get Lauren

stumble and fall by razorlight.jpg
Vogue staffer Lauren Davis is used to seeing her name on the magazine’s masthead - but what about her face the magazine’s ads?

This fall, it’ll happen.

In September, the new Lord and Taylor campaign will be unveiled in magazines, (including Vogue) as well as posted in the Bryant Park Tents. The launch symbolizes the store’s rebirth, and repositions it to compete (they hope) with Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, and Barneys.

Lauren’s campaign cast mates include some of our favorite models, including Jacquetta Wheeler, Carolyn Murphy, and Lydia Hearst. Children of celebrities like Clint Eastwood and John McEnroe will also pose in the ads.

But the one we’re most dying to see is Lauren’s - maybe because we wonder if it’ll make the Vogue Best Dressed List, where Lauren is often a guest editor.

Or maybe because it’s the first time a socialite, and not a pop star, has starred in an ad campaign in The Tents. We’ll be looking for it.

Vogue Sees Double

vogues.jpg
The current issue of British Vogue looks awfully familiar, because it’s something of a time warp.

The cover features a handful of major models from various decades, positioned in white oxford shirts on white wooden ladders.

But this isn’t the first time Vogue has snapped this scene:

Their American counterpart shot the famous 100th anniversary issue in the same vein, with old-school supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington posed on the ladders now occupied by Lily Cole and Jacquetta Wheeler.

The irony:

This cover is called “the age issue,” and indeed, readers can date its main image back to 1992, when Lily Cole was a toddler and Vogue did it the first time!

What’s In Your Bag: Derek Blasberg

derek.jpgdereks bag1.jpg “Male Socialite” (and actual writer) Derek Blasberg is blogging for Jane and rooting for Jacquetta Wheeler this season. But what’s he lugging around in his giant bag? Fashionista investigates…

US: Hey Derek, what’s up with the bag?

DEREK: Don’t you love it? It’s from Calvin Klein.

US: We do love it, but why is it so big?

DEREK:
I don’t think it’s appropriate for guys to walk around with little man purses. If a guy wants to carry a bag, he needs to carry a well-sized, sturdy, appropriate bag!

US: Good call; that’s so true. But that bag looks like it could fit a Tinsley, a Genevieve, or a Lily inside. Is one of them hiding in there to keep you company?

DEREK: No! You want to take a peek?
