karlandclaudiaargentina.jpgDon’t Cry For Her, Argentina: Claudia and Karl are tearing things up in Buenos Aires on the set of the Chanel Spring 2010 campaign shoot. Craft services is offering up “rich barbecue” though somehow we can’t see Karl chowing down on that. {Fashionologie}

Little Pink Houses: I’m from Indiana and we love all things Mellencamp. Especially supermodels who marry our favorite son and settle down in Bloomington. This video of Elaine Irwin Mellencamp just made me develop an even bigger girl crush. Also, it’s set to John’s music which always makes me smile. Hoosier Pride! {Modelinia}

Award Season: We didn’t even know there was a Harper’s Bazaar Cyprus. But there is and they just gave Jean-Charles de Castelbajac a Lifetime Achievement Award. {Fashion Insider}

Silver Screen Hamish: First he conquered the great outdoors and now Hollywood. Mr. Bowles has a cameo in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2. What’s next…The Great White Way? {Page Six}

michelleobamawearsshorts.jpgShorts-Gate: The sheer number of stories about MObama wearing shorts is simply insane. We’re pretty sure that lots of people wear shorts in August in Arizona. Is there really a need for a national debate? {Time}

JC/DC: Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s diffusion line is launching at LFW and he needs models. We’re thinking a Gaga sighting could be job perk. {Dazed Digital}

Quelle Horreur! You can’t seriously expect people to find a way to stir their own coffee, do you McKinsey? Don’t you know that this is Condé Nast? {Page Six}

Streetwalker: An Italian in Paris

italian streetwalker.jpgMariaSole, 22, shopgirl

Got Her: Strolling around the Palais Royal Boutique, taking a breather from work.

Stalked Her: It was girl crush at first sight. I’m obsessed with that blue, especially when it ruffles so perfectly. And once she started talking I wanted to listen to her exquisite accent forever.

Shot Her: Because she’s somehow managed to make DSquared2’s pointy shoulders and her own antique gems look daytime appropriate. Also, it’s really hard to pull off matching so well.

She Said: “Each person has a color that truly represents their soul. I love primary colors a la Castelbeljac and blue is mine! Oh and this jacket is my little mascot for the year.”

We Say:
Can you be our mascot?

Quote of the Day

“I really loved this one … because I thought it was [a] commentary on not wearing fur, ‘cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.” - Lady Gaga on her much-discussed Kermit the Frog coat by Jean Charles de Castelbajac. And here we were thinking it was a commentary on the fact that it’s not easy being green.

anna friel for vanity fair jewelry.jpgNot Faris: Anna Friel is the West End’s new Eliza Doolittle, so Vanity Fair photographed her in loads and loads of pearls with touches of Alberta Ferretti & Julian Macdonald for a supplement to their UK edition. {VanityFair}

Venezia Bound: Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man, will screen at the Venice Film Festival on September 11 which means it’ll have a teeny, tiny, if any, fashion quotient in the audience. {LATimes}

The Mulberry Bush: Mulberry’s look book gets re-invented for the cool kids. It must be an English thing - we’ve never seen the Bayswater look so impossibly hip. {Nylon}

Ooh-La-La: Bonpoint’s founders opened Merci in Paris this March. Here’s a peek inside the charity shop with its specially designed Stella & YSL. It also houses food, vintage, perfume and furniture and looks positively heavenly. {Dazed}

Fashion Is Fun

Legoland

decastelbajaclegosunglasses.jpgWhen we were younger, we loved Legos. Making little towns could entertain us for hours— or until our Barbie showed up and totally towered over her supposed home.

And we think that these Jean-Charles de Castelbajac customizable Lego sunglasses that we found on Dazed Digital, are too funny.

The sunglasses are available in red, white, and yellow, and can be customized by adding Lego as you please.

While we think that in some cases, paying to DIY a designer product, like this $5,500 Fendi baguette and this lettered black Roger Vivier bag, can get kind of ridiculous.

That said, we can’t help but want to try to create our own Lego masterpiece. And at just over $150, the shades are quite a bit cheaper than the make-you-own purses.

With Ray Ban offering up their Colorize kit, and items like the One-Dress being sold, we have to ask, do you get nervous at the thought of being left to your own devices and prefer your purchases to be ready-made or are you willing to shell out to DIY your designer goods?

Fall 2009 Paris

Why is Fall 09 on Repeat? Let’s Do the Math…

marni fall 09 and prada spring 08 are alike in some ways.jpgHypothesis: Fall 09 is mostly a season of repeats.

Proof:

1. Balmainia.

2. The entire decade of the 80’s turning up… everywhere.

3. Marni loving Prada perhaps a bit too much.

4. Jean-Charles Castelbajac sending his models onto the runway from a giant mouth a la Viktor & Rolf Spring 08.

5. Jeremy Scott giving out his Longchamp bag to Beth Ditto and Kanye West to tote around at the Fall 09 shows like it’s really Spring 06.

And so on.

Conclusion: Discuss!

Castelbajac: This is Your Fashion on Drugs

JCDC aw09.JPGJean-Charles de Castelbajac’s collection was supposed to be inspired by muppets, though the backdrop was a pixellated mouth and the clothes more about stuffed animals in general than muppets in particular.

There was one cape made of actual Kermit the Frogs and a skirt featuring that pink muppet whose name I can’t recall. But one minute, there were leopard beanie babies on a model’s hands and the next, a t-shirt dress printed with Michael Jackson’s face. There were plastic trench coats and dresses made, literally, out of laminated hair that was in the best case a twisted ode to Margiela - but that’s probably thinking about it too hard. And the cat heels weren’t just leopard print, they had tails and whiskers, too.

When one of the boys walked out in a Sesame Street print suit I thought of Jeremy Scott. And when it was followed by girls in money-printed dresses I thought of Jeremy Scott. But then at the end, models threw Obama-printed money into the crowd, and I thought of Gaultier.

At least we know he had more than one reference point.

Zac Says, “VOTE!”

The fashion industry’s been kind of obsessed with this election.

Everyone gasped when Michelle wore Thakoon, then again when she wore J.Crew. Everyone panicked when Palin spent $150,000 at Saks and Neiman’s and everyone cringed when she wore knee-high boots.

Sonia Rykiel and Jean de Castelbjac sent Obama dresses down their Spring runway, Nicole Farhi sprinkled her looks with Obama pins and Stella McCartney left personal notes encouraging her runway audience to “V.O.T.E. Obama.”

And now, with four days to go, Zac Posen’s making his message loud and clear. So far, we love his outfit best.

Pac Attack

pacman leggings from topshop.jpgIt seems Mr. Deacon isn’t the only one enamored with our favorite 1980s video game - behold these leggings, at left, from Topshop.

They may not be the most flattering - horizontal bands of graphics, “POW!”, and “BANG!” don’t help anyone’s thighs - but they are pretty fun. Natalie’s totally into it, but more so in sweater form.

First thought: Wow, icons of yesteryear are totally making a comeback - think DVF and Wonder Woman, Lego at Castelbajac, Monopoly and Reebok, and the return of Christian Francis Roth.

But also: Why Pac-Man and not Ms? Pink and black would be so much less jarring and girls will be the ones wearing them..

But wait: Wasn’t Alice McCall supposed to do an Atari-inspired line for Topshop..?
