Back in the spring we talked about the news that Scientology’s most famous spouse, Katie Holmes was working on a children’s clothing line. And as far back as last fall, when Katie sported that jumpsuit creation, we pondered what sort of design project she was working on exactly.

Today we get confirmation from WWD that both the kiddo clothes and their grown-up counterparts will debut this fall exclusively at Maxfield in Los Angeles. The line - Holmes & Yang - is, as expected, designed by Katie and her stylist Jeanne Yang. No photos have leaked yet but it is “said to be full of classic fare.” I’m not really sure how to take that, especially if that jumpsuit was any indication of design direction.

Quietly, the news that Katie Holmes has been working on a line of children’s clothing has been floating around without any real confirmation until ELLE’s Twitter yesterday afternoon.

It seems the former Joey Potter’s foray into fashion as the face of Miu Miu for Spring 09 wasn’t even the beginning, since Katie’s reportedly been working on the line with her stylist, Jeanne Yang (whom you might remember let Katie design that white jumpsuit with her), for over a year.

Whether this is really because she couldn’t find cute/comfortable clothes for the most famous daughter ever, or because she’s jumping on the highly profitable designer kids wear market is unknown, and will probably stay that way.

Meanwhile, if Suri ends up the face of TomKittens Holiday 09, we’ll officially boycott any photos of her immediately.

Vogue UK stumbled on a very fun(ny) fact recently:

That Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes approached Richard Prince about “a project” they’re working on, and were rejected because Prince said there was “no connection” for him.

So of course, the big question is, what is this project, and could it be a fashion collaboration with the artist a la Louis Vuitton? After all, Katie’s been seen out and about sporting outfits she co-designed with her stylist, Jeanne Yang, (at left) so her designer dreams are already evident, thought it would be curious timing since some people are already calling the time of death for celebrity clothing lines, Heidiwood having died quietly last week. (Though, yes, Katie Holmes and Heidi Montag are two very different types of celebrities, who obviously design two very different types of clothing.)

Or maybe Katie and husband are just trying to commission an artist who happens to be very tied to the fashion world?
