When we hear the name Jessica Joffe, we think: Patrick McMullan, Banana Republic ad (Spring 06), the New York Observer, that Stylecaster video, etc.
When most other people hear that name, they just think: Who?
So here’s another piece for that puzzle called, “Who is she, and why is she everywhere?”. Jessica Joffe, the redhead at left, is now the face of Katy Rodriguez’s Fall 09 line.
We’ll ignore the fact that Katy Rodriguez - talented designer that she is - isn’t exactly the biggest, baddest ad campaign of them all, and focus on the fact that campaign season is being kicked off (for the most part) by a semi-socialite instead of a celebrity or supermodel. Sign of the times?
This afternoon, at Thakoon, I was almost swept up in Andre’s vampiric cape.
Black, lined in red, he glamorously threw it over his shoulder on his way backstage which made me giggle which made Bill Cunningham snap my picture which made me gasp and almost trip into the Eyebeam.
Inside, my eyes zoomed to the mass of red hair in the middle of the aisle - Coco Rocha kissing Grace Coddington hello. Grace joined Anna in the front row while all the other Vogue-ttes, sat second row which is kind of confusing with people like Derek Blasberg, Jessica Joffe and Olivia Chantecaille in the front. Whose view matters more?
Anyway, Thakoon sent out a collection of impeccably tailored dresses, capes and trousers topped off with furs colored like a parrot. The clothes were considerably younger than seasons past, especially the prom-like tulle and sequin dress Jourdan wore to close the show. There were at least two Balmain inspired looks and disco ball shoes. Michelle Obama might have difficulty choosing a first lady appropriate outfit from this selection.
But how much would you love to see her in one of those colorful fur hats?

Stylecaster, a new website slated to launch this January, has gone live with four videos and a soft-launch blog to introduce readers to their concept.
The site bills itself as an Influence Network site, like social networking but instead of getting friends you get inspiration. They’re using something called Sociocast which monitors individual users’ taste and preferences to give each reader a totally unique experience.
We’re guessing this means the site will remember which editor’s style you like, who your favorite designer is, where you like to shop, etc. and from there the “experts” behind the site will shower you with specifically tailored style advice.
It sounds like it will take over most-distracting-procrastinator title from Net-a-Porter.
For now, we’re just kind of obsessed with the Jessica Joffe video. She has multiple cute outfits layered over each other and strips down on her way to Café Gitane.
We might have to try that tomorrow.
Can you connect John Singer Sargent and Andy Warhol in one step?
Sure - they were both obsessed with society girls.
Now the painter David Foote takes his shot at stardom - or at least a steep commission from a wealthy family.
David’s drawn Patrick McMullan regulars like Jessica Joffe (left) and Olivia Palermo, and he puts them all up for exhibit next week at the L Gallery Studio, with a party hosted by Brian Wolk and Claude Morais of Ruffian.
We expect the portrait subjects will attend their big unveiling, but which socialite will lend her patronage to Mr. Foote for a future painting of herself?
Like the Spring ‘09 collections, that’s still TBA…
