I'm Sorry Jillian Lewis

jillianlewis7.JPGSo my first presentation of the week was in midtown, at a car showroom. I’ve always had a thing for Audis, so it was all good. But seriously, the Audi Forum on 47th and Park is playing host to a lot of presentations this season. So I appreciate the auto makers for making the space available for designers, even if girls spinning around on a large circle feels a little car show-esque.

Now, I wasn’t Jillian Lewis’ biggest fan back in her Project Runway days, but I did appreciate her preppy Ralph Lauren aesthetic. Her evolution…I’m not so sure about. The pieces she showed today seemed late to the game Balmainia meets equestrian/medicinal leggings meets metallic purple meets hard and soft that is just a bit off.

I know I sound harsh, but I just can’t find a lot to love about the collection. And I did really want to…I swear.

Fall 2009 New York

Jillian Lewis at NASDAQ

jillian lewis and jewels.jpgIf you missed Project Runway alum Jillian Lewis’ Fall 09 presentation yesterday, you could catch her on CNBC today.

She’s set to ring the NASDAQ’s closing bell at 4pm from the MarketSite location at 4 Times Square (yes, it shares a room in the Conde building - surprise!) to celebrate Fashion Week and her general success.

And now you know.

Jillian Lewis Opens Fashion Week

J Lewis AW09 5.jpgSo it’s officially here.

The first show of the week was, as expected, a presentation. Project Runway runner-up Jillian Lewis showed her Fall 09 collection on the windiest street in Chelsea this afternoon.

“I live in Long Island City,” she said. “The collection’s totally based off of the graffiti building, do you know it?”

I live in Greenpoint - the graffiti building’s the prettiest thing around.

“They’re supposed to be really urban, kind of grungy,” she said of the clothes. Urban maybe, but there was nothing grungy about the long, detailed floral dress I fell in love with, or the chunky, perfectly fitted sweater dress that I want to wear tomorrow but can’t have for months.

Meanwhile, Jillian has to be the first PR alum with Vogue at her show, right?

Showroom Seven's Retail Game

beyond 7 1 .jpgShowroom Seven did what every smart showroom should do - open a retail space, Beyond 7, underneath their offices at 27th and 11th to sell the designers they represent.

The store, which opened a little over a month ago, houses lucite racks hanging with Tony Cohen, Issa, Benjamin Cho, Andy & Debb, Jillian Lewis, Elise Overland (they might not rep her, but they still love her) and of course walls and walls of Erickson Beamon jewelry (Showroom Seven was founded by Karen Erickson, Erickson Beamon’s designer).

The best part, aside from the rare guitars, are the one-of-a-kind pieces their designers make just for this space. As in, you can buy a dress by someone who sells everywhere but still be the only one wearing it. And if you’re lucky, one of the major stylists and personal shoppers who spend their days pulling from Showroom Seven will be around for an honest opinion.

Given the abundance of galleries in the neighborhood, they’re doing their best to embrace the arty side of fashion with rotating exhibits, book readings and dance performances.

Also, Seventh House is going forward with nine whole runway shows which gives us confidence that somewhere out there some people are ok.

Project Runway Babes Live on at GenArt

Dahl by Alison KellyGenArt’s Spring fashion show is next Monday, and as usual, it’s a giant buffet of designers you’ve almost heard of, sponsors desperate for the youth vote, and the presence of Meredith Melling-Burke.

But this year, there’s something else that’s kind of funny:

Two of the “Designer of the Year” candidates are hot girls from Project Runway.

First up is Alison Kelly, whose Dahl NYC line (left) has been kicking around New York for a few years now and has fans in Hilary Duff and Charlotte Ronson.

Next is Jillian Lewis, the memorable #3 on this season’s PRunway, whose Vivienne Westwood knockoffs and expert tailoring nearly won her the winner’s crown.

It would be great to see either designer win the prize money (sponsored by Tone) because both are talented and driven young women in the industry.

We just hope their award doesn’t include a prize from the title sponsor - that would be Botox, and although wrinkled clothes aren’t acceptable, wrinkled foreheads are just fine…
