Another Daily Poach

fashionweekdaily logo a gogo.jpgModelinia, the new site about models that hasn’t even launched yet, just hired on Bianca Posterli, one of the Daily’s reporters.

This is now the second person to leave the Daily for another website, recently.

But at least there are two good pieces of news in there:

1. If you’re looking for a job, you can guess who’s hiring.

2. Not all job switches are lay-offs these days.

The Thing About Stylista..

stylista judges.jpgLike you, we watched the premiere of Stylista last night. And probably like you, we were left… unsettled.

Can we be frank? Good. Because this is getting kind of weird. It was all fun and games when Nina Garcia decided to be a judge on a show that used to be genuinely good, and all she did was give her professional opinion while sitting neat and tidy in her director’s chair, occasionally trading jokes with Michael and Heidi, which was cute.

Then when Kelly Cutrone joined the Hills cast, it was just like “ha ha” cool, because, after all, she is a publicist - as in, publicist - and she truly did not attempt to act any differently than she does in real life, which on MTV, is admirable. (We’re not even touching The Fashionista Diaries at this time - and ANTM never felt shocking since the judges on the show are hardly industry members anyway.)

But now what was once fun and games has hit a bona fide fever pitch, with the Style Channel’s new The Stylist, MTV’s Model Makers, and of course, Whitney Port’s new spinoff, The City, in which she works for an actual designer who’ll probably be on camera a total of ten seconds by season’s end. But we doubt any of these will hit home the way Stylista did last night.

Because the thing is, everyone knows these people. You’ve either seen them out, seen their work, worked with them or maybe for them, and you definitely know what they actually walk / talk / look / dress like, so watching them play their own caricature was a little like seeing your little sister’s Facebook - disturbing.

(And can we just add here that when it came out that contestant Megan is co-owner of Addict on 12th St, we literally involuntarily yelled, “WHAT?!” to the screen.)

No one expects reality television to be real, so these real, recognized people with real jobs playing their tele-real versions is kind of like getting robbed in your home - you can’t believe it’s happening, and you keep asking yourself, “is this really happening?” Because dear reader, it’s not. At least, not really.

Love Sneakers? Love to Work in PR?

black converse sneaks.jpgConverse is looking for a PR Administrative Assistant, to work on a six month-long contract, and who already has at least a year or two of experience in PR.

You must be cool with assisting a team of about six people, working in NYC, drafting / filing / copying / mailing all kinds of documents, booking travel (and never screwing that up), mastering the basics of PR from top to bottom, and working for Matt, the nicest PR guy in all of Converse (and PR) history.

Interested (and qualified) candidates: e-mail pr@converse.com with a brief cover letter in the body of the email with relevant office/PR experience, with a subject line that reads, “PR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT RESUME”, and obviously, your stellar resume attached.

Good luck! And if you see any size 6, low-top, purple chucks lying around..

Corduroy Seeks Stylists

corduroy magazine.jpgCorduroy magazine (think Interview, except more indie/artsy), is looking for a few good stylists.

They’re looking for fashionistas who can handle spreads as well as celebrity portraiture, so it sounds like actual experience is a must.

(In fact, they say they’re always on the hunt for contributors - writers, photographers, whatever - so we suggest contacting them if you want to work for them in general.)

Send your info to submissions@corduroymag.com, and good luck.

If ‘7’ Is Your Lucky Number…

charlotte ronson fall 2.jpgSeventh House PR, which if you don’t already work in fashion you know from Fashionista Diaries, is looking for a Senior Account Executive.

The company reps a long list of fashion brands including Charlotte Ronson, Kova & T and Dazed and Confused Magazine and they need someone with over three years of experience to join their team.

If you have strong press & media contacts and an aggressive attitude, if you can write well, work best under pressure and are up for working in a very close knit environment, you might work.

You also need to be prepared to work super hard, probably day and night, and have experience with event planning and execution - but if you have enough experience to apply for this job, you already know this.

If you think you’re qualified, email amber@showroomseven.com and maybe we’ll see you in September.

GQ Is Hiring

gq cover with johnny depp.jpgWant an entry level job in fashion that doesn’t involve auditioning for Stylista? How about this:

GQ needs a new Fashion Assistant.

You should be really smart, really patient, really reliable, really good with people, and really familiar with men’s and women’s markets. This is not an entry level position for Project Runway addicts; it’s a serious job for a young stylist or market editor who already has experience working in the fashion closet of a major national magazine.

If you are one of those people, send a brief cover letter and resume to Ashley_Boer@condenast.com, and make sure you check out men.style.com before your interview.

“You Want the Unpublished Manuscript?”

karl lagerfeld wine goblet holder.jpgIt’s no secret that working for high level people can include some pretty embarrassing tasks.

The Independent had a cute story this weekend
about some of the strangest jobs in fashion, which centered mostly around (who else?) Karl.

They covered that he employs a music nanny - like a librarian for his collection of 100+ iPods - and that he requires a certain type of pencil for signatures. But they missed one other fun job he considers worth paying someone for - goblet holder.

At left, you can see the unnamed man who kept Karl’s drink at the ready during his Fendi ad shoot with Raquel and Brad in Madison Square Park last month.

Glad we finally worked that picture in somehow. And now, back to reality.

WWD Needs Interns (Can You Tell It’s That Time of Year?)

wwd cover.jpgFrom: Redacted@besttradepubever.com

To: Natalie@Fashionista.com, Britt@Fashionista.com

Hi,

I’m the internship coordinator for WWD’s fashion and accessories editorial departments and I’m currently hiring FULL TIME interns for Summer 2008. And I want Fashionista readers.

Ideally, I don’t want my name/email address published, because I know I’ll be flooded with random emails, so if you could only include the Gmail address that I’ve set up (WWDInterns@gmail.com), that would be awesome. Can I be “Internship Coordinator”?

Thanks,

“Internship Coordinator”

There you have it - and speaking as a former WWD intern, I can tell you this is an experience not to be missed if you’re really serious about working in fashion - you’ll leave knowing everything about everything. And the cafeteria is not to be missed!

Good Luck!

Faran Needs an Intern

nylon sienna cover.jpgFaran, officially the Digital Director of NYLON, is looking for an intern to start right now - and if she likes you, maybe you can stay on for the summer.

Obvious, but we know you’ll ask anyway:

Yes, you have to be in or around NYC. Yes, you have to have good writing skills. Yes, you have to be college age (no, 17 doesn’t count.)

And it would help if you totally love NYLON, probably if you also love Fashionista, and definitely if you come to the interview bearing gifts of Kits Kats and gum drops.

We also recommend Clueless, online Scrabble, Shakespearean plays and Harry Potter as good conversation starters.

E-mail an Olsen-sized cover letter and resume to Faran directly at Faran@Nylonmag.com.

Good Luck!

Interview Wants to Interview You

marilyn andy interview.jpgHere’s your chance to get in on the new Interview - the fashion department is looking for interns!

You will:

1. Catalog tons of clothes in the library of the Astor building at Broadway and Prince - so you can slave in style.

3. Tag the issues for monthly mail-outs.

4. Assist on shoots.

5. Arrange look books in Annabel Tollman’s office.

6. And, if they like you, help with market work, try on samples and think of heds and deks.

Send resumes (one page, seriously) and cover letters (no more than two small paragraphs, and in the same attachment as the resume, seriously) to Sydney Wasserman at SWasserman@Brantpub.com.

PS. Like all fashion internships, this one is unpaid, but they do reimburse you for your Metro card.
