To make this video, Danny Roberts, the illustrator and painter behind Igor + Andre, chose the music first, a song by Yann Tiersen.
From there, he started sketching. But because he wanted the lines to match the beats of the song, he’d stop after each one to take a picture which means this ethereal little drawing was actually a massive undertaking. It turned out beautifully, the image of Paper magazine’s Julia Frakes, and it’s magical to watch the image appear on blank paper out of nowhere.
From Blogs to Billboards: Next Model Management just announced their representation of BunnyBISOUS’s Julia Frakes in New York. Julia isn’t their first fashion blogger client — they signed Fashion Toast’s Rumi Neely to their LA branch in April. {Fashionologie}
Baby Face: Claudia Schiffer just doesn’t age. Vogue UK featured the supe in a retrospective. And it’s simply stunning. {Vogue UK}

I have to admit, my fall/winter wardrobe is looking pretty drab. I’ve been trying to find a way to brighten up my monochrome closet, preferably with one or two pieces that really make a statement.
That said, over the last few weeks I’ve noticed an emerging trend that’s perfect for what I am searching for, though I find it a bit perplexing. Vivid Navajo and tribal prints seem to be popping up everywhere, but I can’t figure out which is the way to wear it best.
Opening Ceremony is carrying a selection of wool, Navajo print items in unexpected shapes that make them look fresh. I love how the mini-skirt is styled with simple black tights and boots, allowing the color to really pop.
So in the midst of last night’s insanity, we ran all the way down to Rachel Antonoff’s magical presentation at the Henry Street Playhouse on Pitt & Grand.
The theater’s stage featured a balance beam, swings, vanities and books for the collection of models - and Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat - to play with during the presentation.
Her SS10 collection was inspired, as usual, by ballerinas and their off-duty uniforms which translates to playful girl clothes - black lace dresses, blousy tops with little shorts and even a tutu or too styled by PAPER’s Julia Frakes.
A couple of years ago a friend dragged the soft-spoken Brit to a show at London Fashion Week, Aquascutum he thinks, and he started to draw the models as they walked down the runway. Within a few shows he realized the people in the front row were just as, if not more, interesting.
Now his drawings pop up in Vogues, both UK and American, on Style.com and a bunch of other fashion-loving sites. He’s been in New York this summer preparing his sandwich shop, Cheeky’s, sketching the cool kids in the Hamptons or at the Jane and starting a project he might call, “I’m on the List” about the nature of waiting in lines in New York.
He was in Paris before this and counts India as his favorite place, but he’s in love with New York right now and we’re happy to have him. How he works, after the jump.
And this Sunday the 5th, the two shall come together for the Paper mag editor’s second annual Celebrity Sidewalk Sale at Screaming Mimi’s.
The shindig is co-hosted by Peter Davis, Charlotte Ronson, and Emma Snowdon-Jones and will feature loads of merch from people like Catherine Malandrino, Julia Frakes, and Lynn Yaeger.
Plus, the money goes to charity:water which builds freshwater wells in developing countries. We actually had no idea that it only takes about $5000 to give water to a whole village for 20 years!
So shop away, friends. We just wish we were going to be out east too. But ‘tis wedding season and we’re off to another one in Ann Arbor come Friday.
Rachel Antonoff might have been missing from the New York Fashion Week line-up, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been hard at work on her Fall 09 line.
Her lookbook - which stars Julia Frakes, Sarah Sophie Flicker (trapeze artist, filmmaker and member of The Citizens Band) and Alia Shawkat (from Arrested Development) - gives you an idea of what she’s put together for later this year (yes, there are pretty dresses). Her previous lookbook star was Scarlett Johannson.
And if you’re in Paris for the Fall collections next week, you’ll be happy to know Rachel’s holding a presentation.
