This, the trailer for Tom Ford’s highly anticipated directorial debut, A Single Man, dropped a couple of week’s ago.
But not even Ford penetrated our Fashion Week bubble, which means we’re just seeing and sharing it now, in case you missed it, too.
We’ve already watched it four times (seriously) because even though no one speaks and the story looks terrifying, it’s stunning. From Julianne Moore’s exquisite make-up to the costumes to the furniture to the icy crash and all the men in between, each and every shot is almost shockingly beautiful. Like Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette before it, Ford’s made a visual feast.
Across the pond today, Angels The Costumiers are putting up a bevy of costumes from films and television shows at the Bonhams Knightsbridge auction house in London.
The goods include a bullfighter style jacket Johnny Depp wore in The Man Who Cried, and a jumpsuit from the Bond film Moonraker.
How we’d feel about owning something that Johnny Depp once wore aside, we’re now making mental lists of which movie’s costumes we would bid on.
For me, it would definitely be Audrey Hepburn’s dresses and dress suits from Charade, crazy eighties getups from Parker Posey in Party Girl and Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan, and in my ultimate fantasy, Kirsten Dunst’s queenly gowns from Marie Antoinette. Britt’s with me on Marie Antoinette and would also kill for Julianne Moore’s wardrobe from Boogie Nights and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s from Secretary. Abby loves the clothes from either version of The Thomas Crown Affair worn fabulously by Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, along with some of Gwyneth’s pieces from The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Whose wardrobe is on your wish list?

We at Fashionista are having yet another debate this afternoon. This time, a back and forth over the July cover of British Vogue, which features a heavily made up Julianne Moore. Shot by Alasdair McLellan, the coverline calls Moore “the most glamorous grown-up on screen.”
We all like Julianne (some of us more than others), and we’ve always loved that she’s so fresh-faced - with her beautiful pale skin, freckles and red hair all complementing each other. The “glamorous” make-up used for the Vogue shoot is too heavy for my taste and, dare I say it, verging on Norma Desmond territory. To me, she looks way older than she is.
Both Hollywood and the fashion industry are youth crazy, so it is great to see a beautiful woman over 40 holding her own and still scoring covers. But no one wants to look ten years older than their real age, right? Especially if they biggest line on the cover is “Ageless Style”
Abby, apparently the voice of dissent in the office today, thinks she looks gorgeous. Though she admits to being biased on all matters related to Julianne Moore.
What do you think?

It might be because we love the man blindly, but for some reason we don’t balk at Tom Ford designing a movie the way we balk at Jessica Simpson designing shoes.
Vogue UK reports that the busy man’s starts production on his first film, A Single Man, next month. He adapted the script from the novel of the same title with the help of screenwriter David Scearce and he’ll be directing, too - someone likes to be in charge.
Though we bet directing the likes of Colin Firth and Julianne Moore will be quite different from directing the Sophie Dahl’s and Carmen Kass’s of campaigns past. We’re expecting, ok, hoping, for at least a bit of behind the scenes drama what with Ford’s diva ways, a Los Angeles set, a dramatic story and a stellar cast.
Of course, we’re also hoping Ford has a hand in the set and costume design, too. Anyone who sees the movie, who knows Tom Ford directed it, and who knows who Tom Ford is, will be paying more attention to the aestethic details than the story line anyway.
It’s been far too long since Ford’s had a hand in dressing women and as far as we’re concerned, there can never be too much of the man.

A few seasons ago, Julianne Moore “guest designed” a line of cashmere for Lutz + Patmos.
Now the excellent actress is hosting an opening for the rival cashmere house TSE.
The label celebrates its Soho store with a big party on March 11, with Ms. Moore doing the honors (presumably in some expensive neutral-colored knitwear).
Whether this means Julianne is now a face of TSE or whether - like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, and Miss Sixty - she’s just an enthusiastic participant of fashion (and perhaps a well-paid one), you’ll have to ask her yourself next week.
Or next season, when she’s the inevitable celebrity judge on Project Runway…
