I’m not talking about Kate Moss (in fact, dare I say it on Fashionista, I might be over her), but Katie Grand.
She looked fantastic last night, mostly because she looked in need of a good scrub which is quite refreshing from the legions of blow-dried Barbies swooping into London this month.
We spotted her at Dover Street Market’s bash for the launch of the Standard perfume in a frumpy grey coat that looks like it came from a charity shop, clogs (ed. note: Eek!) with gold details, bare legs, messy hair held back with an elastic band topped with a gigantic green cartoon character bobble - and not a stitch of makeup.
But the kicker? An Hermès Black Birkin bag with a giant green dip-dyed raccoon tail hanging from it. Hear that PETA? Animal tails are about to explode.
Best Of: Now that Fashion Month is actually and officially over (too many forgot about Giles yesterday), the best of the month’s fashion’s been rounded up for your viewing pleasure and consequent envy. {Style}
Watch Out: Just in case you were trying to ignore her, two days after Becka Diamond was named NylonTV’s newest host, the actress is Who What Wear’s Girl of the Month - a coveted title that means she’s not going anywhere. {WWW}
Real or Rubbish: There’ve been a few whispers suggesting that once Condé Nast finishes their 25% cuts, they’ll bring Elle on board from Hachette. In that case, does Condé own every mainstream fashion magazine? And imagine a holiday party at which Katie Grand, Anna Wintour and Joe Zee all answer to the same boss. {FWD}

I got to Marc at 7:45 - the earliest I’ve ever been in my entire life.
There was a line for ticket holders and a line for not ticket holders. I’m not sure what happened to the latter because my ticket was turned over, flipped upside down and the beefy security guard even read the serial number. Once inside the boiling hot white box I was told a) the girls were painted white and b) Lady Gaga was definitely coming.
I stationed myself behind Katie Grand, Juergen Teller and Jefferson Hack (down the row from Rachel Zoe and across from Anna and Bee) and soaked in all their British (and I guess German) brilliance. At 8:03, Perez Hilton was still by his lonesome and the two conspicuously empty seats were filled with Madonna and Jesus. PR’s panicked, “Lorenzo swore he’d take care of it!”
Iris Strubegger opened in a charcoal coat belted over something cream with a very white face and very Geisha shoes. Ruffles followed on suits, dresses, skirts, bags, scrunchies, they came in tulle and wool and cotton and anything else. Karlie wore a military coat, Stam rocked a black cut-out jacket and Vlada had her bra on the outside. The show ended with a series of beautiful dresses, hand beaded white over nude tulle and cream ruffles edged in black all over slightly loose nude mesh leggings.
Lorenzo and Gaga did show up about twenty looks in. Photographers went nuts, do we photograph the clothes? Madonna? Gaga?
Clothes please.

Everyone’s talking about Tavi.
The thirteen-year-old StyleRookie (or not) covers Dasha Zhukova’s first POP. She’s also inside, and on one of the promotional images of Katie Grand’s second LOVE.
Damien Hirst’s illustration (at left) made us gasp, while Grand’s editorial made us “Aw”; while we worship the ground Katie walks on, now we’re actually excited to see what Dasha’s done.
Which do you prefer?
Apparently all of the kids in the new LOVE are under the age of 21.
The issue, which hits newstands on August 24th does indeed have two covers, one of which is Sting’s daughter Coco Sumner and the other Alex Hartley, a bass player from Birmingham Katie Grand tells WWD she found online.
In addition to what sounds like the most brilliantly styled high school yearbook, will be more written content. Grand’s appointed Isaac Lock deputy editor to balance out her more visually inclined self - a good idea considering a lack of words was one of the major complaints we heard post-premiere issue.
Grand & Co. will decorate the windows of London’s Marc by Marc stores in honor of the occasion. They’ll also sell limited edition t-shirts plastered with the magazine’s cover, but no word yet on whether anything’s planned stateside. Maybe we’ll throw our own LOVE party.
Meet Keegan.
He’s a super stylist - you’ve seen his work whether you’re a Teen Vogue kind of girl or a Purple kind of boy because he’s all over the place.
He’s also one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in this crazy mixed up industry and since I’ve wanted to know just what a stylist does all day since the moment I learned styling was a career, I asked if I could follow him around.
We started out listening to Hole at his office/apartment in Chelsea before heading uptown to pull jewelry from Eddie Borgo for a shoot. Then we skipped downtown to KCD’s press preview and were about to go to Dossier’s party at the Tribeca Grand when we realized, wait, that’s tomorrow - because when you’ve got this much going on and your assistant’s on spring break, it’s kind of hard to keep up.

We don’t have to tell you why you’re actually going to linger on Broadway this Thursday morning, but here’s some new (we assume you know that you-know-who will be in attendance) information about Topshop’s first US open via Miss Katie Grand:
-The opening is doing double time as the launch of several capsule collections, including Jonathan Saunders, Preen and Richard Nicoll.
Also:
- Scones and jam
- Competitions with free t-shirts
- a “Style Studio” and style advisers
- and all the rest you already knew (live music including the MisShapes, a shoe salon, etc)
So if you’re skipping the first half of work to stop by, we suggest sneakers for optimal skipping about.
Rumors over the last week have just been confirmed by the Guardian: Dasha Zhukova, the designer behind Kova & T (also well-known as the girlfriend of Roman Abramovich, the billionaire who owns the Chelsea Football Club) is the new editor-in-chief of POP.
The first issue of the new POP hits newsstands September 1st, an ambitious date considering Bauer Media’s had to hire a freelance team to replace the masthead Katie took with her to LOVE.
Bauer’s also established an editorial board to “provide guidance and inspiration”, a team that includes Daphne Guinness and Julia Restoin-Roitfield.
This job will be Dasha’s very first in magazine editorial.
Like any good American girl, I’m obsessed with Topshop.
And like any good fashion obsessed girl, I love Katie Grand.
But I have to admit, the Katie Grand styled Topshop Unique show was kind of a mess.
The clothes were very new rave, neon and kind of grungy. Liu Wen, Karlie (walking her first London Fashion Week), Jourdan & co. stomped down the runway in hooded anoraks and massive, blanket-like scarves. There were Balmain-shouldered sweatshirts paired with patchwork leather skirts, ill-fitting tube dresses and a hooded multi-colored sequined jumpsuit to top it all off.
Meanwhile, the accessories rocked, especially the glow stick necklaces and clutches.
Before the show, Hanne Gaby Odiele complained about her fat legs.
During the show, I sat right behind Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof and Lydia Hearst (from here on out referred to as the Brit It-Girls). I’d stuffed my face half full of delicious Topshop meringues before someone was kind enough to point out that I’d be in every single paparazzi picture this side of the Atlantic.
Whatever, the meringue was delicious. Wish the clothes were, too.

This morning, I woke up with two things: One, a stinking hangover and two, something more exciting than a Valentine’s card.
I managed to get hold of a copy of LOVE five days before its worldwide release. Not only did I get a copy, I got the last copy at Dover Street mMarket (I had to fight a girl).
And let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. From the first page to the last, it’s an explosion of the most amazing fashion, writing and just plain coolness. It doesnt get any better than this.
So as much as you obviously want to know about my very interesting morning, I think I know what you really want to see.
Here’s my edit just to tease you - Stay tuned for more.

More news on LOVE, if you can handle it:
The official launch date may be February 19th, but would-be fans can get theirs hands on a copy a little earlier this week (if you’re in London, that is).
The LOVE blog just announced that free copies will be handed out at the Dover Street Market and at Harvey Nichols this Friday and Saturday in honor of lovey-dovey feelings courtesy Valentine’s Day.
In fact, there’s even going to be some kind of LOVE-related sale, but whatever - First person to send us a copy of LOVE wins our undying devotion!
What do Iggy Pop, Iris Strubegger and Agyness all have in common?
LOVE.
They’ve all been chosen for previews / ads of the new magazine everyone can’t wait for, released today via the LOVE blog that finally leaked some good images.
We’re loving the Britney-ish wig on Iris, but here’s another thought:
Do you think Katie will have a nameplate style necklace of the LOVE moniker made and make people wear it in photographs? There’s something about that logo that automatically takes our mind to jewelry…

Just a quick photo to show you the new LOVE advert in UK Vogue, March 2009.
Don’t know if you got it already but it’s looking promising - I was so confused by the advert I had to take a few looks at Agyness Queen’s picture before I realized what was going on.
Anyway, Enjoy,
P
Strangely, we don’t think this ad does much for Katie’s grand opening, but at least we have a specific date - February 19th!

Hey,
I’ve been told through a friend that the Beth Ditto cover for LOVE is very “ballsy” and like nothing she’s ever done before.
Apparently she got wasted, too, at the POP xmas party. Amazing!
Not sure what that means…but it sounds fun.

So, you think we’re obsessed with LOVE?
Maybe.
But only because we’ve been obsessed with POP since we went to London sophomore year of college and spent too much money on mind-blowing magazines.
Since then, we love all things Katie Grand. And while we can’t wait for LOVE’s debut, it’s with great sadness that we mull over her final, Drew Barrymore-covered issue of POP.
Her last letter from the editor, in which she talks beginnings, highlights and ends, after the jump.

It’s that time again - In this edition, we ask, who would you have wanted to be (in fashion!) for just one day in 2008?
Britt:
Posh: Because in twenty-four hours, I could know what it’s like to wear Roland Mouret and 6” Louboutins on a play date, get a rave review from Style.com, call Marc Jacobs and sleep with David Beckham.
Arlenis: Preferably the day she signed her Lancome contract so that I could grasp the hugeness of going from relative, or total, obscurity to almost super status in like three months.
Carine Roitfeld: Because I would stand in her closet for twelve hours, wander Paris wearing Alaia for the three, style a Demarchelier shoot for five, and hang out with Nicolas Ghesquiere for the last four.
Natalie:
Katie Grand: Because then I could know everything happening with LOVE, which would make me infinitely satisfied.
Cathy Horyn: The power…
Kate: Because why the hell not?
Brett (for fun!):
Olivier Theyskens: On the day of Lauren Santo Domingo’s wedding, to touch the most amazing wedding dress ever and think his thoughts for a little while.
Don Draper: To look that cool, be married to January Jones, cheat, run an ad agency, and drink and smoke all day.
Simon Doonan: Hello, he designs windows and has opinions for a living. That’s my ideal situation.
And you?

Dear Fashionista,
I know you’re dying for details about LOVE.
I wish I could tell you about a fabulous shoot full of models in the English countryside.
I can’t.
But I can tell you that Terry Richardson’s shooting Angelica Huston at the Chateau Marmont for Katie’s new mag this week.
xo,
A West Coast Friend
Scratch that.
It’s no longer a rumor but now a fact. The Gossips’ Beth Ditto’s already been shot for the inaugural issue of Katie Grand’s LOVE magazine.
We’d kind of expected the magazine to go the model route what with their high fashion cred and ridiculously cool circle of friends but we can’t wait to see what Katie does with Beth on the cover.
Ditto’s graced the pages of POP and Jalouse, not to mention the cover of NME, but we’re expecting something totally new, with lots of Giles, of course.
Rumors are swirling that Beth Ditto will grace the first cover of LOVE.
The magazine is slated to launch in February which means Katie Grand might not even know who she’ll put on the cover. But she and her editorial staff threw their first official party in London the other night and Beth was particularly honored.
Her closely cropped bright orange hair only slightly distracted from the fashion scavenger hunt going on during the party, but no one could dig up the answer to the cover question.
We’ve sent Br(it) Boy on the prowl and in the meantime, he says he can confirm an upcoming party and major announcement from Kate Moss.
As for LOVE, we’ll keep our ears open and eyes on the blog.
You, too please.
