Starlets choose something long, something pretty, something with a jewel on top. But our Oscars, the CFDAs, are a celebration of all things fashion with a capital ‘F’ which means we get to choose best dressed, not US Weekly.

Across the pond today, Angels The Costumiers are putting up a bevy of costumes from films and television shows at the Bonhams Knightsbridge auction house in London.
The goods include a bullfighter style jacket Johnny Depp wore in The Man Who Cried, and a jumpsuit from the Bond film Moonraker.
How we’d feel about owning something that Johnny Depp once wore aside, we’re now making mental lists of which movie’s costumes we would bid on.
For me, it would definitely be Audrey Hepburn’s dresses and dress suits from Charade, crazy eighties getups from Parker Posey in Party Girl and Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan, and in my ultimate fantasy, Kirsten Dunst’s queenly gowns from Marie Antoinette. Britt’s with me on Marie Antoinette and would also kill for Julianne Moore’s wardrobe from Boogie Nights and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s from Secretary. Abby loves the clothes from either version of The Thomas Crown Affair worn fabulously by Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, along with some of Gwyneth’s pieces from The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Whose wardrobe is on your wish list?

Lutz & Patmos gets all the cool girls.
They might make little more than sweaters, but they do manage to corral the most stylish women into guest designing those fancy sweaters.
From Kirsten Dunst to Jane Birkin to Sofia Coppola (though who hasn’t she collaborated with?) - their Fashion Week presentations are just as fun for the clothes as they are for the sightings and this one might beat it: Natalia Vodianova’s their next guest.
As of February, Natalia also designs lingerie for Etam (she’s their brand ambassador, too), which means she’s got you covered from the waist up.
Once a month, after school, I used to walk across town to get my braces tightened by my dentist.
Dr. Cashion was a folksy man, as in, he didn’t wear gloves when he touched my teeth. I’d wait in the operating chair, listening to his assistant tell knock-knock jokes until Dr. Cashion shuffled my way. I’d inevitably bust out of there forty minutes late and speed-walk back to school, late to orchestra and suffering from my stretched jaw.
My reward for all that pain? A smile as symmetrical as college-ruled paper. Yet, I’ve been wondering lately, with the influx of crooked-teethed stars, whether it was all worth it.
“Straight teeth are bullshit,” said Keira Knightley. Amy Winehouse’s mouth looks like Stonehenge and Kirsten Dunst’s teeth aren’t exactly picture perfect. Of course, best of all is Chuck Bass’ crooked grin. It’s not like these people can’t afford perfection but rather they’re saying, “I threw my retainer in the trash and you’re going to like me regardless.”
The problem with braces isn’t that they’re one more symbol of unnatural beauty, not that they cost thousands of dollars and not that once removed the changed teeth often return to their natural state, but that braces are also, when forced on children, unethical. They make kids’ gums ache for years and cut up their cheeks. “It’s like forced plastic surgery for children,” says my straight-toothed friend Josh - without anaesthesia, of course.
“I was totally obsessed with my two front teeth being straight from ages 12-19,” says my friend Tamzin, who had braces twice. “Then the second time they went back to being crooked, I said, fuck it - it’s not meant to be.”
So embrace your crooked smiles, don’t force your kid to get braces and admit it, you want to make out with Chuck Bass, British teeth and all.

If ASOS stands for As Seen On Stars, Carine Roitfeld’s the newest it-girl.
The British chain’s famous for ripping off the “style” of starlets, aka ripping off the designer clothes and accessories they wear.
We’re used to clicking through cheap versions of Kirsten Dunst’s Marc by Marc favorites or Lindsay Lohan’s Stella tops, but ripping off Carine Roitfeld’s Balmain dress, and doing it so so terribly, is borderline despicable.
They’ve shortened the hem, changed the leopard spots to zebra stripes, and lost the deep red color by using £38.00 fabric.
If you’re of the opinion that rip-offs are ok because one should be able to be stylish without spending obscene amounts of money, we’re going to steer you toward this dress. It looks ten times nicer and has a Balmain vibe without stealing straight from from Christophe Decarnin.
Otherwise, we’re thrilled that even ASOS recognizes Carine’s superstar power.
We somehow missed the latest Lutz & Patmos news.
The sweater label best known for its rotating guest designers (Kirsten Dunst, Jane Birkin), has teamed up with West Elm for a Holiday capsule collection of interiors.
But yesterday, while shopping for beds, we fell in love with this chunky knit blanket. It’s super soft, warm, the perfect shade of grey and, at $90, costs significantly less than the label’s scarves and sweaters, (which we think is strange since it’s made of significantly more fabric).
There are pillows and other patterned knits, too, though we’re obsessed with the cable knit. In fact, we’re plotting ways to wear it outside, whether as an obscenely oversized scarf or awkwardly belted sweater dress.
Thoughts?
Because of their Fall ad campaign, we were kind of hoping for some Michelle Williams action at the Band of Outsiders presentation, partly because of that adorable profile of her in the Times, but also because we really needed a pick-me-up after fighting with our cab driver about dropping us off on the closer side of the street since, you know, there was kind of a hurricane outside.
But we digress - Once we made it up to the penthouse (which was quite a journey - it seems everybody decided to take shelter at the BOO presentation, and they’d only let fifteen people at a time on the elevator creating a crush like it was a U2 concert on the lobby floor) it was kind of like being in a really quiet, cute store.
First, we were greeted by a huge projection of Kirsten Dunst on the walls, trying on the clothes and sometimes swinging it around. The rest of the collection was in person, strewn around, so you could touch, ogle and maybe even try things on if you were feeling brazen, which was nice - the sweaters were soft, the tops were cute, and we especially liked the backlit white blocks to really show the sheerness of the shirts.
Now if only we hadn’t been sopping wet, we might have actually tried to snag that tight mini - so random yet so right.
Lutz & Patmos loves guest designers, though they’re usually of Fabien/Carine /Sofia type.
So we were super surprised and pleased this morning when WWD reported that the sweater lovers new guest designer is an Amtrak conductor, Chris Waugh.
Apparently, Conductor Chris and Tina Lutz became fast fashion friends on the train after Lutz’ repeated trips home to Rhode Island, eventually leading to him designing his own sweater for L&P, called the Shoreliner, after his train line. (The only available picture of it online was from the WWD article, modeled by Conductor Chris’ daughter, Brooke, at left and tiny.)
At first, we were like, “What experience does he have designing clothes?” And then were we were like, “Oh yeah. Just as much as Kirsten Dunst, really.”
Didi Wagner, Brazilian TV host.
Got Her: Outside the Louis Vuitton boutique, Greene St., Soho.
Stalked Her: Because her red spangled cardigan was an appropriate spring Chanel reference, without being cloying.
Shot Her: Because high waisted jeans live! And look great!!!
She Says: “I wanted to dress up today, and so the tie made me feel a little bit more formal… like that photograph of Kirsten Dunst! Do I look like Kirsten Dunst?! Okay, no, not at all!”
We Say:: Yo, Rio!
So we checked out the Lutz & Patmos fall collection at the New Museum’s Sky Room last night.
The sights were amazing - unobstructed views of the city, and Carine Roitfeld in the flesh.
But the clothes… We felt the sweaters were cute and wearable. But… A show? For sweaters? One after the other like that? And all pretty plain?
So we thought, “Oh! They must be super soft!” But at first touch, we knew, they were somewhere between wool and Banana Republic cashmere. Hmm…
We’re always fans of stuff to throw on to go to the movies on a cold, Monday night but not when it retails in the high hundreds of dollars.
We don’t think Kirsten Dunst having designed some of the pieces suddenly makes the collection so noteworthy - so what do you guys think? Adorable covers? Or over-hyped yarn?
[On a side note, the presentation did include one interesting detail - the use of mannequins instead of models, something we’ve been wondering about since we had the awkward experience of touching the hem of a dress while the model stared back at us at a previous presentation…]
Well now that Chloe Sevigny and Natalie Portman have their own clothing projects, it’s about time Kirsten gets in the game, isn’t it?
And so, the actress will debut her latest line - a collaboration with the cashmere giants Lutz + Patmos - on Sunday, February 3, at the New Museum. DJ Michel Gaubert, who does all the music for Karl Lagerfeld, will helm the decks.
Although this marks Kirsten’s first clothing foray, it isn’t the first time Lutz + Patmos has been to Hollywood. Their past guest “designers” include Liv Tyler and Julianne Moore, plus one collection with Carine Roitfeld at the drawing board.
Lutz + Patmos also did a collaboration with Uniqlo two years ago, but we don’t think Kirsten will follow in their footsteps with that one…

PR companies refuse to confirm celebrities for their shows just yet (and rightly so), but we hear from several sources that Kirsten Dunst may jet from L.A. to attend some of New York’s presentations.
The move may reflect the shut-down of the Golden Globes and possibly the Oscars, which make other red carpets more valuable to both designers and stars.
It may also be part of a strategy to land the part of Vivienne Westwood, a role still up-for-grabs in a future biopic that’s been lightly associated with the young actress.
We don’t know much more, but if we were betting girls, we’d say Kirsten will show up at Marc (or at least at Marc’s after-party, which she did last year) and also Rodarte, since she looked so amazing in their gown at the Spiderman premiere last year.
