We wear them to work, to shows, to parties - we might’ve even tried to pull off a white tee at a black tie event, which means we’re always in search of the perfect one.
And yet we’re not willing to pay $300 for The Row, no matter how Olsen-obsessed we may be. But yesterday, we finally checked out the new A.L.C. - that stands for Andrea Lieberman Collection. She’s the super stylist who had a hand in L.A.M.B and guest-designed for jewelry company Mouawad before starting her own line last season.
Anyway, we loved the tartan coats and skinny tux pants and spent a few too many seconds touching the cropped leather jackets but the t-shirts were really amazing. We wanted to nuzzle into the rack of super soft, almost sheer jersey and never leave.
You can find them at Intermix and Barneys but if you think $147 is too much for a t-shirt don’t even think about touching them or they’ll be in your closet before you know it.
Gwen Stefani’s been harping on the whole Harajuku look for a while now, and today is no exception.
Mrs. Rossdale’s backup singers will be doing a grand tour of New York’s Bloomingdale’s locations - first, they’ll perform at the 59th St location today at 12:30pm, then again on Friday at noon before they head downtown to the Bloomingdale’s Soho location for another performance at 3pm.
Their mini-concerts are meant to celebrate Harajuku Lovers’ new handbag collection, but this probably has more to do with not getting lost in the Fashion Week shuffle, being that Gwen will only attend as a guest, if that.
We didn’t realize Siri’s spot as the Harajuku Lover girl meant television commercials, too, but we’re certainly glad it does.
For the record, we think Siri should be forced to moonwalk on a technicolor keyboard every day of the week, but we’re not really sure when/where this would air.
It was only a matter of time before Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller became best friends - after all, they wear the same jeans, date the same rockers, and grace the same Grazia covers.
So we weren’t really surprised when Sienna Miller told the press at a recent “Mysteries of Pittsburgh” premiere that she wants Keira to be the face of Twenty8Twelve.
The exact quote is really adorable:
“Oh god Keira - I would love it. She’s the face of Chanel so she’s not likely to come and do my line. But she’s my mate, so hopefully I’d get mates rates. I would definitely love Keira to do it. I love her face,”
It might get a little confusing if Keira’s the face of Sienna’s line - it would be like Richard Meier drawing blueprints for Phillipe Starck - but whatever.
The celebrity knot would only catapult the line more, and open up future possibilities of mind-blowing weirdness - like, how about Mischa Barton for The Row? Rihanna for L.A.M.B.? Bueller? Bueller?
If we adored Gwen Stefani any more, she might be Phoebe Philo.
Besides being a great performer and - it seems - an actually cool and nice woman, we think she’s one of the smartest women in the entertainment business, and although her brand is a little too expensive for us, it’s generally very cute, very true to Gwen’s own style, and very easy to like.
Last night, Gwen had her second-ever fashion show in the Tents - but the W Lounge where she holed up with a bottle of L.A.M.B’s new scent (which smells like sugar lemons and kisses) was a glamorously far cry from her first fashion show digs:
“When I showed in Roseland Ballroom my first time, it was with the rats!” She told us. “I was so excited to show there because I’d done my concerts there, but… it was really filthy. I went backstage before my own show to change into my [L.A.M.B.] dress… I think there was pee on the floor! But I was so glad I showed there, it’s where I was supposed to be. Now I am supposed to be here in the Tents.”
Very rock & roll.
You can read more about Gwen - including her Lily Cole love, her ska influence, and her “incredible” closet - on our Teen Vogue page later today.
Erin Fetherston may be stepping into new territory with her spring collection, but the boys at Rag & Bone are mostly up to their familiar tricks (tailored pants, skinny jackets, gray, navy, white… and more gray, navy, white).
The house’s spring show did feature one interesting accessory, though:
Head scarves.
But we don’t mean skull print scarves knotted around models’ foreheads a la Nicole Richie and Axl Rose. Instead, a couple of the models walked down the runway with scarves covering their hair and knotted at the neck, as if they were trying to protect their updos from the breeze in the back of a convertible.
The 1960’s headscarf look was a staple at L.A.M.B, also…
Perhaps if Kate Bosworth had one, we would have stopped staring at her and focused a little more on the clothes.
Last night, we had the pleasure of seeing two favorite international editors, HIlary Alexander and Suzy Menkes, grace the front row of L.A.M.B
Tomorrow, it’ll be even better.
We hear from a fashion chick at Conde Nast that Carine Roitfeld is slated to touch down, though perhaps too late to do anything except check into her hotel room.
Still, there’s always hope we’ll see her tomorrow night, at the Purple Magazine / Restoration of the Monarchy party that’s hosted by her daughter, Julia.
When Jane folded, Ms. Pratt told The New York Times that she was planning a new magazine launch for teens and ’20somethings.
What she didn’t mention?
That the launch may be with Gwen Stefani, pop star, L.A.M.B lover, and aspiring media empress - at least according to the Sassy girls.
If the coupling is true, it means Jane has her first cover girl, Gwen has another outlet for her entrepreneurial cravings, and whomever gets hired will have the two blondest bosses in the world.
We bet the soundtrack for the office will be killer, but wonder which company would front the glossy - Hearst has the Oprah magazine, but maybe Time Warner is a better fit for Gwen, since it already owns a record label?
Also: Will a magazine that lumps 10th graders together with 22-year-olds be a success?
Well… both groups of girls own Harajuku Girls tees (and so do I, at 25…)
Last week, Traver Rains was on My Super Sweet Sixteen, dressing birthday girl Teyana and causing glittery mayhem with his Heatherette partner Richie Rich.
This week, it was Traver’s turn to get a big surprise - a 30th birthday bash that transformed his Chelsea duplex into the Wild, Wild West. “I can’t believe you guys did this,” he said, as a posse of his BFFs surrounded him in bandanas, cowboy hats, and chaps - a riff on Traver’s past as a professional rodeo driver. “I mean really, I’m speechless.”
Thirty years old and still, a new first.
Check out the photos and consider this - Heatherette’s dropped the Alice in Wonderland idea (they think Gwen Stefani already played that card with L.A.M.B). Instead, they’re playing with an American Gigolo theme for Spring ‘08…
Fashionista is proud to present Deal or No Deal, in which a group of style insiders check out a discount fashion item and answer that pressing question - is it worth it?
Marc by Marc Jacobs suede studded pumps, originally $380, now 53% off - or $179 - at Bluefly.com
Tinsley Mortimer, socialite extraordinaire: “Buy those shoes! They were almost $400 so now it’s a great deal. They’ve got a rounded toe, which makes them very good for the season. They’re a great color, I mean, you could wear a very plain outfit and those shoes will just make it. Plus they have that little ankle strap, which is so great for shorter dresses. Get them!”
Zaldy, L.A.M.B. designer and Scissor Sisters stylist: “Don’t do it. The rounded toe is already a little tired and the studs make them less chic. Plus, $200 is still a lot of money, and suede is impossible to clean. That’s not a bargain to me.”
Lydia Hearst, model/ heiress/ redhead: They’re wonderful shoes but they’re not incredibly cheap.
To me, a bargain is $25 in a sample bin on the last day at Barney’s! You know?
Fashionista: Take another $100 off, and you’ve got a deal.
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
