Beauty WTF Moment

truebloodericfangs.jpgWith New Moon imminently on the rise, our friends at StyleList conducted survey of cold ones inspired beauty. The results? Nearly 10% of respondents caved to the idea of having or investigating fang implants.

Um, what? Even 1% would seem really high. Certainly fashion statements have often taken cues from pop culture, but this just seems ridiculous.

Apparently, there are two types of canines to be bought. The first is a temporary cover that can be fitted and fashioned to fit into your bite (Lady Gaga was spotted smiling with these a few months back). The more permanent option—a cap—needs to be put on by a cosmetic dentist. Lengths, style and size can be customized. And pricing starts at $100 a tooth.

Lest you think we’ve completely lost our minds, let us tell you that last night we sat across the table at Rose Bar from a girl actually wearing fangs. So this trend is happening whether we like it or not. And as much as we love a cheesy teenage vamp flick or a semi-evil Eric, we’re going to go with not. You?

Patrons of the Arts

Things we liked in this behind-the-scenes video of Vogue’s Art Issue.

1. It was Anna’s idea to put Lady Gaga in the issue.

2. Lady Gaga is fully aware that she does the pantsless thing and wants something new for the shoot. Also, she arrived naked with just a raincoat on.

3. Without even saying a word, Cate Blanchett’s facial expressions prove her a better actress than most.

4. Two of our favorite redheads: Lily and Grace!

5. That it may be more exciting than the actual issue.

Gaga Nails It

The interwebs are all abuzz today with the release of Lady Gaga’s new video for “Bad Romance.” She’s the ultimate crossover as every music, celeb, and fashion site is fairly obsessed with its arrival.

As expected the styling is ridiculously awesome. The S/S10 McQueen is killer (as is the Lady’s ability to walk in those shoes.) And it’s totally creepy and gorgeous all at the same time. I’ve already watched it three times and can’t imagine getting sick of it anytime soon.

In honor of Gaga’s new gig as a beauty spokesperson, I’ll point you to my favorite non-clothing related styling choice in the video: the barbed wire-like nails. While they’re not exactly practical for every day life, you (or rather your manicurist) could create something nifty like this for a holiday party.

P.S. How weirdly cartoon-y were they able to make her eyes in some of those shots? I felt like I was watching Roger Rabbit!

Kitties & Lipstick, Gaga’s Favorite Things

gaga hello kitty.jpgLady Gaga may talk about starting a clothing line and she may pop up in front rows, but now she’s landing real fashion work (or as real as can be expected from Gaga).

Yesterday, the Daily Mail leaked photos of her Hello Kitty campaign. The pop star wears stuffed kittens and too much glitter in honor of the Japanese brand’s 35th Anniversary. The images will also cover special editions of her album (which’ll be sold with locks of her hair).

And now she, with Cyndi Lauper, will front the new MAC Viva Glam campaign.

The annual project sends 100% of the profits from MAC’s $14 Viva Glam lipstick to their AIDS Fund (which has raised over $150 million since its inception in 1994). This year’s campaign launches on February 25 and the lipstick goes on sale March 18th.

We can’t even fathom the launch party for this one.

Gaga Gets Dazed

ladygagadazeddigital.jpg We know many of you are suffering from Gaga fatigue, but not us. Not even the massive number of Lady Gaga costumes sure to take over the nation on Saturday night can quench our thirst. Her SNL performance a few weeks ago was awesome and so is this new video over at Dazed Digital.

It starts out a bit interpretive modern dance Gaga, set to piano music she scored just for the short, directed by Kathryn Ferguson, before moving to seems to be outer space. The styling is sparkly, colorful, and athletic kind of all at the same time. And the multi-colored makeup is pretty ridiculous, and I mean that in the best possible way.

You can get a better look at the details in the behind the scenes photos. Personally, we love that Gaga takes time out from rehearsals and whatnot to do these kind of projects. Because whether you love her or not, there’s no question the Lady is busy.

BOO!

lindsay and tobias nevernude.jpgIf you already know you’re going to be Lady Gaga or Michael Jackson for Halloween, this isn’t for you.

I committed to being a Nevernude last November 1st - even though I have the perfect Betty Draper dress - so I’m missing the excitement of finding a costume (but I do get to wear my trusty denim cut-offs!).

If you’re still searching and looking for something more creative than Ricky’s, we’d suggest checking out two of our favorite vintage destinations. Zachary’s Smile just made their basement sale space at 303 Mulberry a permanent vintage dream with almost everything - including their own label - going for less than $50.

Let’s say you find the perfect suede hot pants and embroidered hippie boots, but still need the right peasant blouse and floppy hat - we’d head up the street to Screaming Mimi’s at 382 Lafayette and scour their in-store costume pop-up shop. This year’s theme is Dios de los Muertos and we can almost guarantee you’ll leave with the perfect costume.

Meanwhile, I’m already having nightmares about wearing a nude bodysuit.

Beauty and the Divas

madonna and lady gaga.jpgSNL’s Deep House Dish may have been creating a mock rivalry between ultimate icon Madonna and current talk-of-every-town GaGa, but the sketch did illustrate that there are a few requirements to being a dominating diva.

Here, four of the key elements that led to these two conquering the charts and the monde of mode:

1. Eschew pants, of course. After dedicating unlimited hours to yoga, Pilates and the Anderson Method, assets must be placed front and center.

2. Become a blonde. Both Gaga (nee Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) and Madge (born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone) ditched their brunette roots years ago.

3. Lash Out. Overdone eyes are de rigueur for aspiring performers. Rumors of Madonna sporting mink lashes by Shu Uemura on her R-Invention tour spawned the company’s new Luxe line, a synthetic version featuring criss-crossed strands for a more dramatic effect. Or try applying the individual Make Up For Ever to create a customized look. And the only-at-Sephora fiber-infused Fiberwig mascara promises fluttering—and lengthened—lashes without the hassle of glue.

4. Bestie up with MJ. Duh.

Color Me GaGa

ladygagamjcomicbook.jpgStill convinced your invite to the Marc Jacobs/Lady Gaga after party got lost in the mail?

Maybe this second Marc/GaGa collaboration will help to ease your pain. And there won’t be any nasty doormen in your way telling they’re at capacity.

Artist Brian Einersen created a Lady GaGa comic book that’s retailing exclusively at Marc Jacobs stores.

The cover name-drops St. John, Christian Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent so we know it’s worth the read. Not only is the comic fashionable and funny, but it retails for only two dollars making it a guilt-free purchase.

So head over to your local Marc store and pick up a little dose of 2D amusement.

Trendspotting

Trendspotting: You Say Gaga, We Say Stella

no pants trendspotting.jpgStella McCartney sent pants-less looks down her runway as early as her Spring 2008 collection (September of 2007, when Gaga was still just a noise babies made). She carried the look through to last spring’s line-up of pants-less suits and rompers, but this season almost every designer jumped on the bandwagon.

Charles Anastase showed a killer nude and black playsuit; Marc layered pants-less options under military jackets; Miuccia showed hotpants in Milan last night; Brian Reyes’ opening look was nothing but a white bodysuit. As if a lack of pants wasn’t enough, Alex Wang sewed sheer panels into his and Jenni Kayne added a matching leather bandeau, conservatively draped with a grandpa cardigan, of course.

But, well, you know which question remains.

Look Ma, Still No Pants

pradass2010crystals.jpgAs we were watching Tweets come in from the Prada show in Milan, one statement came through loudest, Miuccia’s not doing pants this season. And the beach was going to play a big role. @MrJoeZee has already put the word out that Gaga should take a look if she’s planning a vacation.

Fashionologie has the first full set of pictures that we’ve found and I’m already madly, deeply in love after two quick viewings. The crystal section of the show (and the shoes) are kind of blowing my mind and I can only imagine what they look like up close and personal. There’s a good chance I would have shed a little tear of joy.

And the first set of slim shorts with cropped jackets and the prints aren’t far behind on my love list. I’m even kind of liking the clear plastic bags and sandals.

Throw in coral lips and low, mussed pigtails and I’m firmly planted at Miuccia’s altar again this season.

Michael Kors Goes Gaga

korsss10-8.JPGAnna’s bodyguard earned his keep yesterday at Michael Kors keeping the throngs of photographers swarming Michael Douglas (yep that Michael Douglas, sans Catherine Zeta Jones) from getting to the EIC and Grace. But eventually she got irritated enough to move to the second row until just before the show started.

Michael always puts on one of the most fun (and biggest - 67 looks!) shows of the week and he definitely stayed true to form with a soundtrack that started Gaga then mixed in Madonna before going back to our Lady of the week. “Poker Face” pretty much always gets me going, even on a gray morning nearing the end of Fashion Week.

The clothes gave me a boost too. Clear plastic panels on dresses! Major bubble necklaces! Metallic pants and shorts! Seafoam galore! Zippers! Delicious spring sweaters!

And as Britt so aptly said, a finale dress (pictured above) “that will be on Heidi Klum in 2.5 seconds.”

Marc Jacobs' Blank Slate

marc jacobs ss10 pull image.jpgI got to Marc at 7:45 - the earliest I’ve ever been in my entire life.

There was a line for ticket holders and a line for not ticket holders. I’m not sure what happened to the latter because my ticket was turned over, flipped upside down and the beefy security guard even read the serial number. Once inside the boiling hot white box I was told a) the girls were painted white and b) Lady Gaga was definitely coming.

I stationed myself behind Katie Grand, Juergen Teller and Jefferson Hack (down the row from Rachel Zoe and across from Anna and Bee) and soaked in all their British (and I guess German) brilliance. At 8:03, Perez Hilton was still by his lonesome and the two conspicuously empty seats were filled with Madonna and Jesus. PR’s panicked, “Lorenzo swore he’d take care of it!”

Iris Strubegger opened in a charcoal coat belted over something cream with a very white face and very Geisha shoes. Ruffles followed on suits, dresses, skirts, bags, scrunchies, they came in tulle and wool and cotton and anything else. Karlie wore a military coat, Stam rocked a black cut-out jacket and Vlada had her bra on the outside. The show ended with a series of beautiful dresses, hand beaded white over nude tulle and cream ruffles edged in black all over slightly loose nude mesh leggings.

Lorenzo and Gaga did show up about twenty looks in. Photographers went nuts, do we photograph the clothes? Madonna? Gaga?

Clothes please.
