Lauren Bush In the Salad Aisle

lauren bush and her feed bag.jpgAre you sick of “green fashion” yet?

If not, you may want to breeze through Whole Foods, where Lauren Bush’s famous line of FEED 100 bags go on sale starting May 1.

The bags cost $29.99 and can carry all of your groceries, your gym clothes, or even your Barneys purchases, and all proceeds go to the UN’s World Food Program.

This isn’t the first time Whole Food’s been in the eco-bag business:

Last year, the store famously rolled out the $15 Anya Hindmarch bags, which sold out in roughly 90 minutes.

We think the whole thing is pretty admirable, and encourage you to save up for one of the totes if you haven’t already got something sustainable to replace plastic grocery bags -

Though if you read this blog, you obviously already do!

Fashion Is Fun

Water Bottles Extraordinare

ethoswater.pngThe year 2007 practically glowed green with environmental concerts, initiatives and celebrity spokespeople taking over the world.

The fashion industry followed suit with an influx of recycled/recyclable, organic and vegan designer bags: Anya Hindmarch’s caused a stampede in Union Square; Lauren Bush’s hung from her shoulder at every red carpet event; Marni’s $800 “grocery tote” was made for some seriously gourmet shopping.

Now, we’ve noticed that other constant accessory, the water bottle, changing shape around town: Poland Spring, Ethos (the Starbucks’ water), Deer Park and and Evian (whose website features an environmental link coming soon) are all packaged in newly shaped bottles that use significantly less plastic than the older models in an effort to reduce their awful effect on the environment.

Not only is this a great idea, but we’re hoping designers catch on to it soon, too. Couldn’t you just see an Evian/designer collaboration?

We envision a doll shaped bottle covered in flowers from Luella , an inappropriate, but colorful, shape from Marc or maybe a regal vase-like bottle etched with feathers from Alexander McQueen.

We just hope they wouldn’t charge more than three dollars!

Barneys Gets Fed?

1326733732_450da12185_m.jpg Lauren Bush’s clever FEED Bag will soon hit Harrod’s, where thousands of luxe London shoppers can help fund the World Food Programme.

Now we hear the FEED Bag might also retail in our favorite American wunderstore, Barneys.

“Lauren Bush has been trying to match the FEED Bag with the right upscale retailer, and it will probably be Barneys,” shares a source, who adds the bag’s fashion cred gets helped whenever Lauren wears it to a red carpet event, which is always.

Barneys New York seems to be the best fit for the sack so far, because of their commitment to youth culture, charity, and being a little bit cooler and more irreverent than other stores. Plus, the FEED Bag is made from simple cottons, which matches Barneys’ new mission of catering to eco-friendly fashion.

We hope the bag does hit retailers soon, but those who want to swap their normal Christmas stockings for the bag (which you should totally do) can buy it on Amazon.com - each bag sold can feed a child for an entire school year.
