In case you’ve been under a fashion rock this week, you know that tonight’s the night for the taping of the big Victoria’s Secret show. You may have also heard the rumor that some of the Angels are going to be recreating George Michael’s supremely awesome “Freedom ‘90” video for the occasion.
Now, we love Doutzen, Chanel, Miranda, et al. But seriously nothing will ever top this MTV supermodel explosion.
Naomi dancing in the sheer black top! Cindy in the tub! Christy and the sheet dress! Tatjana in the animal print! Super blonde Linda in that delicious oversized sweater! Throw in the jukebox and jacket from “Faith” burning and you’ve got yourself a video masterpiece.
So before it happens (or doesn’t) we thought we’d give you a little reminder of the original. And this song never fails to brighten a day. Though we’ll always contend that sometimes the clothes do indeed make the man. Just sayin’.
If the Linda Evangelista images in November’s Art Issue of W left you wanting a little bit more, this is the video for you. Dramatic music plays in the background while Dennis Freedman gives insight into the socio-politically charged shoot photographed by Pierpaolo Ferrari, but conceptualized by artist Maurizio Cattelan.
I just love watching crews maneuver through urban streets with a supermodel in Lacroix or Oscar. Also, it makes you realize that these sorts of collaborations really only happen at W (at least in America) and it’s one of the reasons it would be devastating to ever lose the magazine, which for a while was a big fear in the industry.
Lovely Linda: The supermodels of our teen years are killing it this season on the campaign front. Evangelista and Galliano can really never go wrong as far as we’re concerned. {SassyBella}
Lend A Hand: The LOVE blog is reporting that photographer Corinne Day is very, very sick and in need of some super expensive medical treatment, so they’re selling a limited edition Kate Moss print (that’s too NSFW for even us to run on the home page) There are only 500 available. Do get well soon, Corinne! {LOVE}
Ew, Ew, Ew: In case you didn’t believe us about how douche-y those Fashion Meets Finance events are, maybe you’ll believe the Paper of Record. We’re just going to go back into our happy places where things such as this don’t exist. {NY Times}
Yesterday, when I heard that Scoop was having a 25% off sale on shoes and handbags through Tuesday, I literally scoffed. I thought, “25%? Lame.” And that’s when I knew my sale perspective has changed.
I used to think 25% was decent. You get to cut the price in half, then in half again to know how much you save. But with all the mega sales these days, 25% kind of sounds like kids’ play. Even though just a few months ago, I might have canceled plans to make it to a 40%-off sale, these days, I’m pretty much unmoved unless the magic “75%” is dropped.
Britt says she’s unmoved by sales now, too, unless they’re offering 95% off (translation: she’s not even shopping the sales right now) - though, she does say if it’s Vivienne, McQueen or Stella on the block, 35% off is the minimum she needs to hear to ensure attendance. Hayley says she needs to hear at least 80% off now, and Alex says she always only shopped deeply discounted sales anyway, and I’m sure you all know Linda Evangelista’s definitely a no-show unless she can somehow make ten grand off the cameo.
Do you find your sales perspective has changed? Or are you just showing up to anything and everything?
Today’s WWD had a long article on what they’re calling the ‘return of the supermodel”.
We’ve sensed for a while that there’s definitely been a shift back to the unique women of the 90’s rather than models that we can sometimes barely tell apart.
But the article brings up something of note: that the design houses giving these women (“girls” just doesn’t seem quite right here) are mostly European with the exception (so far) of DSquared, which is designed by two brothers from Canada.
Do we have a problem with older women in America?
Try not to laugh at that.

It used to be impossible to hear your favorite models speak, unless of course you were so embedded in the fashion crowd that your best friends had names like Linda and Cindy.
But now that snippets of Tanya, Daria, Coco and co. keep popping up on the internet, we can’t get enough.
Miss Rocha sat down for an interview at Toronto’s Fashion Week last night, and, well, we like her more with each and every word.
She says hi and waves to herself on TV, exaggerates her vowels, and maybe even makes a dig at Karlie Kloss’ death walk, all in good fun of course.
Now if only Ali would film a video at her local rodeo.
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
Meet Blue Logan, if you haven't already. A couple of years ago a friend dragged the soft-spoken Brit to a show at London Fashion Week, Aquascutum he thinks, and he started to draw the models as they walked down the... Read More
