File this one under ludicrous: You can now press on your very own fake-looking pout with this sponge applicator stamp, available in shapes like “Bowdacious” and “Pouty”. Pick your favorite lipstick, rub it onto the LipStamp sponge and then stamp it on your face. Sounds fun, right?
It may have been years since you’ve seen anyone wear press-on anything, but believe it or not, it’s kind of taking the beauty world by storm. Case in point (other than the LipStamp): This press-on smoky eye kit and these stencils meant to help you shape your eyebrows (or, look like Joan Crawford, whichever).
But aren’t these products contradictory to what beauty’s really about? It took me a few unfortunate days in middle school to realize that ice blue eye shadow up to my brows was not a good look (I was known as the Blue Eyeshadow Girl for that one unfortunate year). But the point is, at least I tried out something new and gradually learned what looked good and what wasn’t right for me. Experimenting with different shades, trying new techniques and just learning how to use makeup is one of the fun things about beauty. And if you’re scared you’re not applying your makeup the “right” way, books like Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces or Bobbie Brown’s Makeup Manual can give some useful and creative information instead of rigidly dictating how something should look and telling women that there are only a few acceptable pre-ordained shapes for their lips or eyes.
These mold and stamp products are just one more way to trick women into buying silly things they don’t need or would ever conceivably be able to use under the facade of “easy” application. Color me not interested.

Since the 90’s and the Fall runways are what’s on our minds most right now, we’ve been giving a lot of thought to black lipstick.
We saw it at YSL and Giles, and we kind of secretly see it on ourselves, but only with the right invitation, and only if we could pull it off without venturing into Morticia Addams’ territory.
We figure we could always switch it out for a super deep red or aubergine to go with super soft eyes, but then it might just look like dark lipstick, which isn’t nearly as exciting as a total mouth blackout.
But more importantly - would you wear black lipstick (on a night other than Halloween)? Or is this too reminiscent of that other 90’s blunder, Goth?
(And if you already have, then please tell us how you worked it - we seriously want to know!)

If you ever thought to yourself, “God, it would be so nice to be Georgina Chapman”, here’s your chance to get the tiniest sliver of her life -
Stila’s offering the chance to have one of their Lip Colors named after whoever picks the best name! You:
1. Go to the site, and pick the name of the shade (no more than eight characters, but obviously something that uses your first name)
2. Write a tiny fifty-word essay on why they should choose you over the other 8,000 Alison’s trying to get their own lipstick shade (hint: this is the most important part)
3. Must do this before midnight this Sunday if you want to make it to seeing your name announced on July 1.
Good luck - especially if you’re named Jennifer/Jessica/Alison/Emily/etc
And who knows - since Stila does all the backstage makeup for Marchesa’s shows, you could yell out to Masha Tyelna that she’s wearing your color…
Is getting a lipstick named after you the new replacement for getting your own bag?
Stila’s following in the footsteps of Behnaz Sarafpour/Gucci Westman and Tinsley/Dior, and giving the Marchesa girls their own lipstick shades.
After doing the makeup for Marchesa’s last four seasons, Stila’s finally let Georgina and Keren try their hand at picking out some colors for the face.
The Georgina will be a sheer red, the Keren’s a nude color, and the very fall-appropriate berry is named after Talia Shobrook, the makeup artist who helped create Backstage Beauty Collection, the limited-edition line Stila’s made using the colors from Marchesa’s Fall 2008 show.
The Marchesa lipsticks are permanent additions for Stila, retailing at $22 each.
Look for them in seriously every magazine ever come August - Stila is a well-known beauty editor favorite.
