Autumn Bottom: Whether fall makes you think of fashion or of crunchy leaves, both visions probably come in the same color palette. Hillary and Katherine take layering to the max in their fall fashion editorial. {WWW}
On the Job: Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, former director of special events for Vogue, just landed a new position. She’ll be the director of Fashion Week for Lincoln Center when it moves in September 2010, “consulting on internal and external coordination between Lincoln Center and the fashion industry.” But the question is, who can she steal back from MAC? {FWD}
Still Haunting: Alison Sarofim’s Halloween party brings out fashion’s best and brightest. This year’s theme was downtown New York circa 1980’s; Marc and Lorenzo were dutifully costumed while Valentino opted for a spot-on Valentino look. {VanityFair}
Joy to Your Feet: Loeffler Randall’s resort collection just landed on their website this morning. Jessie Randall found inspiration in the children’s book Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni and you can also find the booties from Costello’s show. {LoefflerRandall}
At the end of August, we wrote an Adventures in Copyright begging Alexander McQueen to do something about Steve Madden’s blatant copies.
Some of you agreed, one commenter asked, “Do you think McQueen cares this much?” To which of course we’d heartily answer yes.
So you can imagine, or try to, how high we jumped for joy when this morning, WWD announced that McQueen’s suing Madden.
The suit, filed in Manhattan October 1, calls Madden’s Seryna bootie a “studied imitation” of McQueen’s Faithful and points out, like we did, that the only detail missing is McQueen’s trademarked skull zipper. In exchange for Madden’s attempts to profit off of the Brit’s “widespread media attention,” they’re asking for an injunction, profits and payment of legal fees.
Now if we could just get Messieurs Blahnik and Louboutin on the case, throw in Tamara Mellon’s attitude, Jessie Randall’s charm and Marc’s spunk, this could be the most fashionable class action lawsuit ever.
2. Loeffler Randall’s runway debut is super exciting. Their resort booties pair perfectly with the drapey cocktail dresses. (And you can order them now, even though they don’t launch until late next month.)
3. Starworks has their shit together. If they can stay calm, I can stay calm.
4. These dresses represent what these guys do best - make any woman’s body look amazing. One can never have too many neutral, draped, pretty cocktail dresses.
5. Best use yet of Swarovski sponsorship, love the bejeweled collars.
We had breakfast with Loeffler Randall this morning, aka our brand crush.
They’ve finally launched their own website and we kind of understand why it took so long - they wanted to make it perfect. So now, instead of going to a Loeffler Randall store (which they swear you’ll be able to do someday), you can shop from anywhere, whenever you like.
The site houses their whole shoe and apparel collection, as well as exclusive color ways and fabrics. It also features a blog, written by Jessie and co., music, the fall campaign (the video above documents the shoot) and phone numbers so you can actually call and ask someone to help you choose the right booties - these are Jessie’s (and our) favorites.
Just thought we’d give you one more way to pass the slowest of summer hours.
Otte, one of our all time favorite West Village (& Brooklyn) boutiques is having a last minute sale at their corporate offices.
They’re talking racks of Inhabit, See by Chloe, Maloles, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Karen Walker, Vanessa Bruno, Dallin Chase and more with everything costing around or under $50.
It starts today, in an hour actually and lasts until tomorrow at 7pm - or until everything’s gone. Cash only and everything’s final sale - if you have more questions you can call 212-213-4030.
So head to 37 West 26th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue, suite 305, and if you get to the Loeffler Randall’s before we do, we may have to hurt you.
We spent the morning in a sea of Loeffler Randall shoes - it was like the really good dream we wanted to have last night but we got to wake up to it instead.
Not to gush or anything, but Jessie Randall’s fall shoes are incredible. She’s come up with so many versions of the bootie that regardless of your height, shape, size, etc, you’ll find a version that works for you.
They come with cut-outs, chunky ruffles, thin buckles, thick buckles, built-in platforms, wooden heels, and our favorite - a chunky knit cuff that can be pulled up like a leg-warmer or scrunched down. It’s the first time she’s done a shorter version of their classic Matilde boot and it’ll come in both black and embossed python with wide silver buckles on the sides.
So if, like us, you’ve avoided booties up until now - consider yourself screwed.
While some may be antsy about the upcoming awards season, we, as always, are more concerned with the results of the upcoming buying season. So here’s a taste of the more notable additions you can expect on Net-a-Porter for your Spring 09 at-home shopping:

- Kova & T
- Loeffler Randall
- Philip Crangi
- Preen Line (Preen’s more affordable secondary line)
- Steven Alan

If you’ve spent years listening to your boyfriend/intern/best man friend rave about Odin and you’re like, “OK, I get it. Enough,” then it’s finally your turn.
Eddy and Paul, the revered team behind the beloved men’s store, opened a women’s outpost in September, called Pas de Deux on 11th between 1st and 2nd, and we finally took a moment to hang out with Paul this morning.
He showed us the tightly edited selection of Wang, Lim, Engineered Garments (an Odin favorite), Vena Cava, Coventry, etc, merchandised together for easy-to-understand shopping. The clothes, basically our dream wardrobe, are accessorized with hard-to-find shoe styles from Repetto and Loeffler Randall, sunglasses from Karen Walker and Linda Farrow, and a handful of jewelry from mostly Brooklyn designers.
For Spring, they’re introducing Coming Soon by Yohji Yamamoto and Richard Chai (who conveniently happens to be Eddy’s brother). The tiny, and gorgeous store is meant to be your dream closet, and the blue wall paper, mirrors and girly chandeliers scream Holly Golightly - a very elegant scream, of course.
If we could’ve left with an entirely new outfit - save for our motorcycle boots - we would’ve. Instead, we left with a new favorite store and big plans for our closet.
Ever dreamed of the day when buying one of your favorite designers’ bags actually helped to make the world a better place?
Well, thanks to Glamour, this day has come. The magazine, through their Fashion Gives Back program, has asked Doo.Ri, Loeffler Randall, Subversive, Band of Outsiders, Chris Benz, and 3.1 Phillip Lim to each design a unique tote bag made of 100% organic cotton, and of course the best part is, 75% of all profits will go to Global Green USA.
We can’t imagine a better way to give to charity than by treating ourselves to a new book bag. And can you think of a cuter way to pick out your lettuce than with Phillip Lim’s kissy face? And I believe Band of Outsiders’ design is actually based on the inside of my purse, hair clips and all.
If this sounds like the cutest route to philanthropy, head to Henri Bendel some time tomorrow or this week - we have a feeling these will sell out quick!
We hung out backstage before the Shipley & Halmos show to a) steal glances at the clothes and Loeffler Randall shoes and b) talk to Beauty.com make-up artist extraordinare Tina Turnbow about the Blade-Runner-Goes-Pink look she was going for.
She showed us how to apply Stila lip-gloss to our eyelids for a fresh, shiny look. And then she told us she loved our eye-liner. And then we blushed. She also showed us how to put white eye-liner at the top of your lip to fluff it up a bit, and how to brush shimmer around the corner of your eye so that when the light hits you, you glow.
We could’ve stayed and played with her all day, but the show was about to start and we were determined to make it to our seat in time to how Madeline from Model.Live was holding up with her second show of the day (her first was Cushnie et Ochs - more on them very soon.)
Madeline held her own with the gamine girls and very cute boys in her little black dress. The collection, the second the boys have designed since breaking from Trovata, was easy-going; almost anyone could wear most of the looks. Our favorite was a sheer black top tucked into wide-leg white pants. It was an almost perfect retro/modern balance.
But for the most part, our eyes were on the Philip Crangi jewelry, and Philip himslef, which was fun for us, but not exactly the point.
You guys have a soft spot for knock-offs when the designer being copied doesn’t enjoy the world dominance of say, Marc - so this should get you riled up.
The Brooklyn label made the slightly wedged, pointed toe flat last season in patent, snake skin and a sandal version.
It’s available for pre-order on Steve Madden’s site now. He threw in a few more ruffles on top of the toe and made it in a couple of extra colors - but we’re on to him.
Also, does Steve Madden really get away with selling $200 dollar shoes under the Steve Madden label? And, do people really pre-order them?
