The Whole World Steps Out for Fashion

liya kebede for fashions night out.jpgFashion’s Night Out just released their prolific schedule for September 10th.

Seven hundred stores across all five boroughs will stay open until 11pm, but Anna Wintour, Michael Kors, a surprise celebrity guest and the cast of Hair will kick everything off at Macy’s six hours earlier.

At Barneys, Wool & the Gang will teach knitting while Scott Hahn & Rogan of Loomstate customize t-shirts. Zac Posen will be painting inside Bergdorf’s Fifth Avenue windows while Peter Som and Cynthia Rowley have an in-store cook-off. What are we most looking forward to (aside from the Olsens)? A fashion game hosted by Andre Leon Talley with teams led by Donna Karan, Robert Verdi and Linda Fargo.

Various contests will be held throughout the night in which one can win tickets to runway shows, haircuts by Sally Hershberger and Oscar Blandi, a custom Carolina Herrera wedding dress and the chance to be on set during a Demarchelier Vogue shoot. Cindy Crawford, Hugh Jackman, Stephanie Seymour, Sasha, Caroline, Chanel, Lily, The Misshapes, Taylor Momsen, Yasmin le Bon, Coco and Diddy are just a few of the people with planned appearances.

Don’t forget to shop while you’re out ogling your favorite fashion people!

Internships

Intern at Steven Alan!

Steven Alan Needs Interns.jpgMagazines not for you? Don’t feel like helping a stylist? Not interested in writing for us? But you still want an internship? How about a showroom?

Steven Alan’s hiring. They need interns starting now and a good crop for fall, too. It’s kind of like working in the closet, you’ll check samples in and out and keep everything organized. But you’ll be doing it in a gigantic Tribeca showroom instead.

Loomstate + Jill Platner’s Summer Pop

loomstates pop up shop.jpgRogan Gregory and Scott Hahn’s Loomstate still doesn’t have its own store — but they’re popping up downtown for the summer.

They’ve snagged a place on Crosby Street, 113 Crosby Street to be exact, with jewelry designer Jill Platner. They’ll be selling limited edition tees alongside their usual organic cotton jeans, dresses and shirts.

Jill’s selling limited edition jewels, too. And if you’re short a few dollars, you can bring in your old gold jewelry for them to recycle.

The store opens to the public tomorrow and will run through the summer.

To Shop or To Beach

anya hindmarch canvas totes.jpgIf you’re in the mood to shop this weekend, read on.

Start out at Tommy Hilfiger on West Broadway at Broome. Pick up some jeans to make into shorts and a new bathing suit maybe because the first five customers to spend $500 get a free Apple iTouch. The next twenty-five to spend $300 get an iPod Nano, the next twenty-five to spend $150 get a shuffle and the next fifty to spend $100 get $15 to the iTunes store

Then head to the Anya Hindmarch store, or online, to get one of her new seasonal totes for under $100. Swing by IHeart on Mott because they’re closing (sad) and having a major farewell sale. Then on Sunday make your way to Bergdorf for their Re-invent Shopping lunch. Becki Newton from Ugly Betty will be there and if you bring in something from your closet a Lucky stylist will help you re-work it — details here.

Or, if you’d rather get started today, you can hang out with Vanessa (Jessica Szhor), Amy Astley and Vivienne Tam at the Teen Vogue concept store in the Short Hills mall at 5pm. Consider it part of the Save the Malls Effort - and you can win a free computer.

And lastly, if you’re in LA, head to Barneys with your old t-shirts so that Loomstate’s on-hand artists can customize them into something amazing.

Otherwise, we’ll see you at the beach.

Amber Valletta To Make Clothes

amber valletta vogue italia couture.jpgYou can add supermodel Amber Valetta to the list of models/designers.

Tucked into today’s WWD story on the Loomstate for Target pre-party in Los Angeles last night is this:

“As much as I love fashion and as much as it has supported me, I see how extreme and extravagant it is,” said Valletta, who is collaborating on a women’s clothing collection to be announced this summer.

The token statement in which said supermodel honors her place in fashion while preparing the retail stage for her affordable line which probably pays more than some tribute to the high fashion in her own closet.

Anyway, who might she collaborate with? Her Vogue Italia couture supplement’s part of our office wall paper so we’re having trouble envisioning her in Target or H&M - guesses?

First Look: Loomstate for Target

loomstate for target pull.jpgWe just got our hands on the Loomstate for Target lookbook and knew we had to share.

We won’t lie - it definitely comes off as a bit of a repeat of Rogan for Target, especially the leopard-ish print shorts (at left) that were the star of that Barneys shopping party last spring.

Of course, the big difference is that Loomstate’s clothes are all made of 100% organic cotton, meaning you can feel good about what you’re wearing and how much you spent, too.

Also, this line includes men’s clothes (shirts, shorts, etc), as opposed to Rogan/Target, which only had options for the girls.

So basically, it’s all about peace and love, people.

Weekend Shopping Outlook: Excellent

hayden harnett wedge sandals how do i love thee let me count the ways size 6 please.jpgIf the fact that it just snowed on the first day of spring is as confusing to you as it is to us, then you know there’s only one real response: shop!

This weekend’s a particularly good one for sales, so here’s a little guide for those of you who may have missed our sale calendar:

Tomorrow, you can sip champagne while getting 20% off at the new Hayden-Harnett store, then skip over to the nearby Staerk, Built by Wendy, Only Hearts, Libertine, and Abaete sales. And if you’re really into it, you could head west to hit up the Falls pop-up store on Greenwich, before you check out the Alaia, Proenza and Givenchy at the nearby Edon Manor. You also have Michael Kors in Chelsea and Lauren Merkin a little further uptown. Or if you’re in LA, we highly suggest the Kiki de Montparnasse garden shopping party.

Starting Sunday, you could pick up Valentino (and Roberto Cavalli, Blumarine) on 57th Street, or if you’d rather not leave the comfort of your bed and Sunday Times you can have a Blair moment on Colette Malouf’s sample sale online.

Finally, if you feel like feeding your weakness without spending too much cash, the Loomstate event at Kaight today might be the way to go - you get an exclusive, stenciled Loomstate shirt for free with any Spring purchase, which means spring shopping fever is officially in full swing.

Happy Friday.

Ring In Spring With Rogan

loomstate spring 09.jpgThis Friday, Rogan Gregory and his Loomstate team will be hanging out at Kaight on the Lower East Side and they’d like you to join.

In honor of the first day of spring the brand’s head graphic designer’s already created a series of exclusive stencils and will paint them onto Loomstate’s organic tees come Friday. And the tees, which normally sell for upwards of $60, are free with any spring Loomstate purchase.

Kaight, the eco-friendly boutique, is located at 83 Orchard Street and the boys will be there from 5-8.

They’ll also have vodka lemonades, just in case cute boys in organic jeans isn’t enough spring celebrating for you.

Dispatch: Shopping the Rogan Sale

rogan fall 08 look.jpgMemo:

The Rogan/Loomstate sample sale is pretty amazing.

I was in there for under 30 minutes today, and walked out with gifts for my brother, my boyfriend, his mother, his aunt, his sister and his cousin (annnd for myself), and my spending hovered around $200. Yes, most of the good finds are tangled in cardboard boxes on the floor, but when Rogan’s super soft tees are marked at $20 a pop, casual shopping is quickly displaced by borderline aerobic work.

So if you have several hard-to-shop-for people on your holiday list, we suggest hitting this sale up, because nobody scoffs at a perfect little tee.

PS We also stopped in Odin on the way, where a pretty decent sale’s quietly carrying on from previous weeks. Trovata shirts are finally marked at $109 and less, and there are many choice items (though mostly tops) for under $100 waiting to be scooped up by serious shoppers.

So basically, go downtown.

And for more sales, Shop Your Heart Out.

Simon & Julie Hawk Their Wares

Bet you didn’t think anything could beat last year’s Barneys Christmas video - but leave it to Julie and Simon to get you into the goofiest holiday spirit.

They’re celebrating all counter-cultures this season, a Barneys Hippie Holiday, and have a plethora of gifts they think your loved ones need - like Jonathan Adler candles (ahem), peace sign-embossed Goyard bags, “re-birthed” Loomstate t-shirts and a Henry Cuir bag that’s “even made by a hippie.”

And in case you, like Simon, think the phrase “dans tes bras” means “in your bra,” Julie clears it up.

Oh, also, they pretend to smoke pot - so obviously, you should watch it.

Rogan Back to Target with Loomstate

loomstate fall winter look rogan.jpgFans of Rogan’s Target collection have another reason to get excited:

His Loomstate line, based entirely on organic cotton, is set to hit Target stores (and their site) from April 19 to May 22nd, with the tote-friendly price range of $14.99 - $44.99.

Guess all the work Target put into making themselves green enough for Gregory really paid off - this is the first designer to formally go on a second date with the mega retail chain, even if they’ll never admit that it’s basically a Go International encore for one of their most popular editions yet.

Stay tuned for images.

Loomstate’ll Love You

loomstate spring 08.jpgWell, Rogan must’ve liked what they saw because now Loomstate is seeking your intern services.

This time, Rogan’s all-organic, mostly denim line needs someone for their sales and marketing department.

Your daily responsibilities will include printing line sheets, keeping the studio organized, running errands, showing up to work on time and a little bit of filing.

But you’ll also be there for market week, which means you’ll be spotting some very important buyers while learning how the sales team works at a laid back but exclusive label like Loomstate.

Send your resume and a cover letter explaining why you want this internship to bm@rogannyc.com.

You get a food and travel stipend and you’ll probably see Rogan every day.

What more could you possibly need?

2. Based in New York and available 2-3 days a week

“Audrina, Are We Wearing the Same Pants?”

loomstate.jpg The Hills has been lacking fashion lately, and with the elusiveness of labels and editors comes a sharp sense of anything with stitches - sort of the way you can smell anything when you’re hungry.

So when Lo says to Audrina, “are we wearing the same pants?”

We were immediately like, “Why yes, you are, and they’re Loomstate, and they’re from Barney’s Co-op, and they’re $79 on sale, but you can find similar ones at Urban Outfitters and also at Madewell.”

And that is when we decided that we will probably not watch The Hills anymore.

But even so, the pants are quite cute.

Also made from organic cotton, which we like - but not as much as we liked The Hills when it actually took place (or at least looked like it took place) inside a Conde Nast building.

Sigh.

Barneys and Loomstate Recycle Together

barneys new york.jpgIf you were planning on using some old t-shirts as rags or just bottom-of-the-dresser-drawer fluff, you might want to hang on a couple more weeks.

Starting April 13, all Barneys stores will accept
all those “vintage” tees from Urban you bought when you first started school, and hand them over to Loomstate so Rogan Gregory can turn them all into a way cooler limited-edition t-shirt collection to be sold exclusively at Barneys for the holidays. Proceeds will benefit 1% for the Planet, and the whole thing is sponsored by the Sundance Channel.

If it strikes you as a rip-off to return to Barneys after eight months and buy back your own old stuff (mixed with a bunch of other people’s old stuff), take comfort in that you’ll receive a 20% discount on the line (and on other Loomstate) for exactly fifteen days in April.

And if the whole thing strikes you as a little too cool for green, you could at least show up to the kick off event at Barneys on the 22nd to be DJ’ed by, of course, Paul Sevigny.
