The first day of New York Fashion Week was perfectly wearable.
It was like designers listened to the universal call for clothes that can move from the runway to the stores to customers’ closets in no time at all, year round.
I started the morning at the Tribeca Grand for Abigail Lorick’s romantic presentation. Models perched atop a white bed in girly dresses and rompers. The best look? High waisted shorts with a stiff-shouldered top.
Everyone loved the Fenton/Fallon jewelry, but the woman painting the collection to the left of the stage was the star. The collection felt more Serena than Blair, but for the sake of wearability that’s probably a good thing.

If you, like us, only head toward Times Square/Port Authority for very, very special occasions - here’s one.
Save Fashion’s third week, May 15th through 22nd is devoted to the best of men’s: Acne, Band of Outsiders, Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers, Earnest Sewn, Inhabit, Rag & Bone, Rogan, Rogues Gallery and Steven Alan.
But then Abigail Lorick moves in and brings Eleanor Waldorf with her. You’ll have a chance to buy the clothes from the Eleanor Waldorf Fashion Show episode of Gossip Girl which means you won’t just have a one-off, but a one-off from the same runway Serena walked and Blair pitched a fit over.
Meanwhile, will Lorick for Little J for Eleanor Waldorf be there? Find out Friday May 22nd.
Parlor Showroom, home to some of our favorites like Rachel Antonoff, Lorick, Samantha Pleet and Staerk, needs a handful of immediate interns.
But don’t worry, they need boys, too. On that side of the spectrum they represent brands like Conference of Birds, Mjolk, Odyn Vovk and Timo. The showroom works mostly with sales but dabbles in press for a few of their designers, which means it’s a great behind-the-scenes look at the business side of things and a great chance to get to learn the ins and outs of buying.
Since it is sales, interns will be working with important numbers - so if you have a penchant for steaming or packing $800 sandals, this might not be the one for you.
If you’re the usual: Passionate about fashion, dying to learn about all facets of the industry, a super hard worker, dedicated, etc, send your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you’re perfect for the position to intern[at]parlorshowroom.com.
Last season, Lorick was the most fun of all the shows, with cakes, good cocktails and a general party atmosphere.
This season, the show started with a lone accordion player tapping out a winding song in the dark, which continued as the models circled him in outfits we’re pretty sure even Blair wouldn’t wear.
Of note: One model lost her shoe, but kept walking on one tippy-toe like it never happened (we give her an honorary gold medal), and several other girls tumbled after that, too.
Other than that, nothing really happened - Except for Cory Kennedy and one of the mean girls from GG, the crowd seemed mostly like a friends-and-family gathering, and everyone pretty much scooted out the door as soon as it was over.
We don’t know why Lorick decided to go so somber after the riotous Spring 09, but maybe she’s just trying to stay on trend.

It’s that time, kids. The Fashion Week schedule is making its way into our lives, and we can already spot some time slot duels:
On Friday, February 13th, Cushnie et Ochs is showing at the same time (4pm) as Shipley & Halmos (which is a presentation, but you only have until 5pm to get there, so if Cushnie starts late - hah! - you’re out of luck.) Then later that day at 8pm, Form and Lorick will have to compete for pretty young things’ attendance.
Then on Tuesday the 17th, advertiser-driven Badgley Mischka will have to contend with buzz-driven Sophie Theallet at 10am, and Phillip Lim may lose some seats to Carmen Marc Valvo the next day at 3pm.
Also of note: Even though plenty of small designers are nowhere to be seen for the Fall 09 shows, Hayden-Harnett is officially on the schedule with a 6pm presentation on Thursday the 19th, and ThreeAsfour, who usually hosts a pretty heart stopping show, has switched to presentation format (Valentine’s Day at 7pm, same as Elise Overland.)
Three weeks…
Every once in awhile websites have super random ads that make us giggle and wonder how that company chose that target audience.
We don’t know how we missed this on Style.com, so thanks to reader Claudia for sending it in.
Nikon’s having a Gossip Girl contest - just enter your info and a picture of your “most stylish party moment” and you might win a trip to New York, dinner at a “trendy” restaurant and obviously a Nikon Coolpix camera to record the whole thing.
But the best part’s scrawled across the top in bright yellow writing, “Win a Photo Op with Leighton or Ed.” If you scroll to the bottom it says in very teeny tiny font, “Meet either Leighton Meester or Ed Westwick pending their availability.”
If they can’t even confirm one of the stars, and they know enough about their fiercely loyal audience to advertise this contest on Style.com, they should know they can sub a meet and greet with a Lorick dress and Bendel’s make-over for twice the amount of contest entries.
Or for us, at least.
This just in from our Inbox:
Tonight’s episode of Gossip Girl, “The Ex-Files”, is the big Fashion Week-themed edition that tied up the entirety of Chinatown about a month ago.
In the course of an hour, we can expect an Eleanor Waldorf fashion show with Michael Kors and Tinsley Mortimer front row - and a full ten looks from Abigail Lorick’s actual line, Lorick, from Spring 09, parade down the runway as Eleanor Waldorf originals.
So if, like us, you found yourself wishing you could see the clothes in motion instead of dirtied with creamy (albeit delicious) cake, here’s your big chance.
It’s like Fashion Week déjà vu, except this time, you can wear a bathrobe.
Update: Sorry, guys! We got that information straight from Lorick’s reps, but I guess they were a week early. But look on the bright side, there’s anticipation now!

When we worked our way over into a little corner of the Lorick presentation mayhem, we knew we had to meet the sweet looking lady sitting by the vanity holding a copy of “A Room of One’s Own.” We shook “hi” and she said, “Oh, hello. Pardon me for not taking off my gloves.” And that’s when we put our purse down.
This is Mimi Weddell. You may not have heard of her, but she’s an actress (she played Stanford’s Chanel-wearing grandmother on SATC), a New Yorker (New York Magazine named her one of the city’s Most Beautiful a few years back), and a model who’s posed for Burberry, Louis Vuitton - and now, Lorick.
Her dress was of course Lorick, but the rest of her look - including the stole - was completely her own. We chatted about things like NYC neighborhoods, how she came to model for Lorick (a bizarre chain of meetings, it seems, in Abigail’s attempt to accentuate the more grown-up feel of her Spring collection), and whether or not it counts as a Fashion Show if there’s hot pink nail polish purposefully drizzled on the floor (Mimi: “It is not.”)
If you want to see more of Mimi, like we do, you can catch her in the documentary of her 93-years-long life, Hats Off.

We know it’s a little early to start throwing around superlatives, but Lorick may just end up winning Best in Show for Spring 2009, if not only for the atmosphere and total look.
The presentation was, essentially, a cake party with cute clothes. Upon arrival, you’re greeted with lemony cocktails. Then, you walk past three or four models licking swipes of tiered, bakery window-pretty cakes from their fingers, ever so careful not to smudge their pink frosted lips. Next up, a mess of mattresses and girls with their hair tyed up in scarves and lounging on a pink nail polish-stained rug in high-waisted satin shorts next to model mother Mimi (more on her later.)
After passing a few splayed TV sets strewn with white Christmas lights, you come to the more serious portion of the run through, where the girls were decidedly less playful with serious poses and much harsher makeup.
In attendance: Eleanor Waldorf, one of Jenny’s mean friends, Peaches Geldof, and just about everybody on the planet - the place was so packed by the end that some of the plates on the play kitchen counters shattered on the floors, and the models were kind of drunk off all the sugar.
If you’re wondering about the cakes, they were amazing. We should know - we had the models hand us a spoon just so we could know what they were giggling about. And if you’re wondering about the clothes, just check out our little gallery after the jump. Because really, we’re still a little shaky from our cocktail and cake combo…
