Yesterday brought news that Paul Wilmot is shuttering his west coast operations saying, “I opened up the Los Angeles office to see if there was there was business for us out there, and we just didn’t find it.”
But others, like Starworks, are finding business booming. In fact they just doubled their office size by moving into new 5000 square foot digs on Beverly Boulevard.
Allison Oleskey, who heads up the LA office of 15 employees, tells us, “As we expand our offerings and client range in LA, we felt the need to move to a larger space that would better accommodate our brands and also better reflect the Starworks aesthetic. We have always been passionate about the LA Market and see tremendous opportunity in the years to come.”

I have a complete fascination with Angelina Jolie. While I realize I am far from alone in this space, I know that there still exist many haters. Now aside from the striking beauty, the children, BRAD!, and the devotion to humanitarian issues, I’m a huge fan of the simplicity of her style.
The lady likes what she likes. What she likes is often black. And lately, she’s been doing the more goddess-y gown thing. So I for one was pretty psyched to see her going more old-school tough girl in this A/W Michael Kors black leather dress last night at the Inglourious Basterds premiere in LA.
I dare say she is one of very few actresses in Hollywood that could pull this off with the same badass attitude that Heidi Mount did on the runway.
Michael Kors must be pretty psyched right now as basicially the two most famous (and photographed) women in the country are choosing his clothes. While Michelle Obama has been spotted regularly at public appearances in Kors, Angelina, not so much. Though we hear that she wears lots in “real life” and that the designer has even created capsule collections for her.
So do you think Diane Kruger’s pissed?

We realize that lots of the internships we post are pretty NYC-centric, but here’s one for you SoCal types - and it’s a goodie.
The Los Angeles office of Women’s Wear Daily is looking for fall interns to work directly with their West Coast Market Editor Leila Baboi. You’ll be in charge of tracking samples, running the closet, and handling the credits. And we’re going to take a wild guess that you’ll probably be making a couple trips from their offices on the Miracle Mile to the Cooper Building (home to countless showrooms) downtown.
Speaking from first-hand knowledge, the LA office is small, but bustling so you’ll really get to make the most out of your time there. And you’ll definitely get to know lots about the denim market, as well as all the other Cali-based designers.
Details after the jump!

My female friends, it is a fact that most of us wear the wrong size bra. Every day of our lives we put on something that isn’t properly fit. It seems ridiculous, but is oh-so true. This is an even more problematic issue for those of us with more, um, prominent chests.
And don’t even get us started on the lack of aesthetically pleasing options as the cup size goes up.
That said, we were beyond thrilled to hear about Jenette Bras in East Hollywood during a recent trip to Los Angeles. The just-opened store (and website) only offers D and up. And seriously, more of you probably could wear a D than you realize. Some of our friends were shocked to hear what we ended up with!
But these are not the big ugly grandma brassieres found at so many department stores. Jenette carries mostly European lines like Panache, Freya, and Anita Rosa Faia. They’re as pretty as any petite ones we’ve seen.

Everybody’s looking for ways to drum up cash these days, and camera crew-toting stylists are no exception:
Next Thursday (March 26), the Decades Two in Los Angeles is hosting an in-store shopping event for 50 - 100 pieces of contemporary costume jewelry from Rachel Zoe’s personal collection, handpicked by one of the store’s owners. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a charity of Ms. Zoe’s choosing.
Unsurprisingly, you can’t go unless you’re invited. But here’s the flip side: Jewelry that makes it past the first night will end up on DecadesTwo.com and on the store’s eBay page the very next day, meaning you can click yourself silly with your friends while making all the bananas references you want in the privacy of your own home.
Though LA party girls, beware: The event will be taped for the Rachel Zoe Project, meaning you could end up on Bravo shopping Rachel’s cast-offs. We think the website might be the way to go.
Will you be in / around LA tomorrow? How about nearby EM & Co, the boutique on 3rd St?
Are you a fan of Vivienne Westwood’s Spring 09 Anglomania collection? Or that wedding dress? (Translation: Are you super rich?)
If you can answer yes to all of the above, you’re in luck. EM & Co’s hosting a one-day only trunk show of Dame Viv’s most recent creations, and taking guest measurements if they’re so inclined as to purchase replicas of the wedding gown made famous by Carrie’s flower bashing scene.
The bad news? Only a limited number of the gowns will be produced, so we’re guessing that means you’ll have to bid to get your way. The other bad news? The event if invite only, so unless you can get down there and charm the sales people, you’re out of luck. But, if all you want to do is appreciate the dress in person just once anyway, the gown’s hanging in the store, right now, and will be there through Friday. And hopefully that’ll be enough for you.
C’est la vie.
California may be home to Hollywood and Hugh Hefner, but Miami is getting a one-up in the form of a secret:
Victoria’s Secret, that is.
Today, the company announced its December fashion show won’t take place in Los Angeles, but instead in Miami, Florida.
The move comes on the heels of many VS changes, most notably in their models: Gisele is out and Miranda, Behati, and Trentini are in.
Maybe the high fashion profile that comes from using those runway girls is also what motivated the move down South -
Before VS got to Ocean Drive, it was taken over by Karl for Chanel’s most recent resort show!
For those of you who missed out on the amazing Net-a-Porter sale this past week because you still can’t bring yourself to order Chloe shoes online, here’s a real-life sale to get you in on the fun:
Ksubi, maker of Ashley Olsen’s jeans, is having a sample sale in LA all day tomorrow and Friday.
Stop by 860 S. Los Angeles Street (the Cooper Building), #529, from 9am - 5pm.
Expect “great stuff from past seasons,” drinks and a DJ.
Who doesn’t love a good mix of party and shopping?

Wow, we had no idea some of you guys were as into this as we are - so here you go, a picture of Hedi’s car, above. Maybe he’s trying to send us a message with that picture on his blog?
Or maybe we shouldn’t egg people on to take surreptitious pictures of him while he waits for his gas? Nah, we still want to know what he’s doing in California…

Just saw Hedi Slimane on Melrose driving an 80’s Black Rolls Royce.
So cool!
Indeed, but the question is, where did he get the money for a vintage Rolls, and also, what is he doing in Los Angeles?!
Somebody please ask him when you see him at The Grove.

Hey, hey!
Here is a very interesting picture of MJ at David and Victoria Beckham’s mansion in LA a few days ago.
They had a dinner party chez casa Beckham.
Lots of campness and bitchy gossiping from Marc and Posh; imagine!
Ummmm…. we have no idea where this photo came from or what, exactly, is going on, but 1) It’s awfully interesting that Marc was in L.A. on the same schedule as Hedi Slimane and Kate Moss, right? 2) Wow. That’s a lot of Posh for one morning.
Coffee, anyone?

Where in the world is Hedi Slimane?
I saw your post about Hedi in California, and it’s true!
I spotted him on Melrose Ave. last Tuesday the 25.
I said hello.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera and was to much in awe to do anything else =(
[Editor’s note: You should have bought him baby food!]
Question:
What’s Hedi Slimane doing in Los Angeles?
We got some e-mails spotting the former Dior Homme designer in various L.A. hot spots.
Is he casting more skinny boys for an upcoming photo exhibit?
Or is there something more business-worthy going on?
Hit us up if you know - tips@fashionista.com - and if you see Mr. Slimane and want to talk to him, here’s a hint:
Bring him a jar of baby food and you’ll have his heart forever.
Here’s the fun rumor coming from L.A.:
Teen Vogue dropout Lauren Conrad won’t just have her own reality show come March -
She’ll also have her own Fashion Show.
We’re hearing from some MTV friends that Ms. Conrad is launching her first catwalk turn for Los Angeles Fashion Week, and though that rumor is so unconfirmed it should make us break out in hives, it’s still fun to think about.
Why?
Because Whitney, Audrina, Brody, and Lisa Love would all be in the front row, while every Hills addict in Hollywood (Haylee Duff, Rumor Willis, we are so looking at you) would camp out on the other side of the runway.
And the clothes would be swishy, and too expensive for what they are, and twelve-year olds might temporarily forget their Juicy Couture dreams in favor of something slightly simpler, and tied forever to shiny blondes.
The LA Times has a story this week about blondes with roots, and it’s so insane it actually makes sense:
Writer Monica Corcoran asserts that brown roots with blonde hair is “the latest way to feign indifference to your appearance” - if $300 shredded jeans, threadbare designer t-shirts, and anything by Martin Margiela doesn’t really work for you.
Her proof is a slew of rooted celebrities, including both Olsens, Madonna, and even Jessica Simpson, plus Los Angeles stylists paid hundreds of dollars to paint “lowlights” and darker roots onto their fair-headed clients.
There’s also a new wig from the Raquel Welch collection that comes with built-in roots, and a stash of Marilyn and Brigitte Bardot photos showing the sexbombs with their own dark scalps.
Corcoran surmises the tarnished blonde hair represents a good-girl-gone-bad complex, and her argument is both persuasive and intriguing.
Still, in our ash-blonde experience, we can also say those dark streaks growing in are less good-girl-gone-bad and more good-girl-gone-broke.
It must be those $300 jeans that were carefully run over by a monster truck before hitting Barneys…
