So Un-Vogue: There’s a scene in The September Issue in which Anna takes issue with the size of the cover font, hate to see what she’d do to the staff of Vogue Brazil for misspelling Guy Bourdin’s name on their September cover. {MadeInBrazil}

Double Tavi Time

tavi for pop and love.jpgEveryone’s talking about Tavi.

The thirteen-year-old StyleRookie (or not) covers Dasha Zhukova’s first POP. She’s also inside, and on one of the promotional images of Katie Grand’s second LOVE.

Damien Hirst’s illustration (at left) made us gasp, while Grand’s editorial made us “Aw”; while we worship the ground Katie walks on, now we’re actually excited to see what Dasha’s done.

Which do you prefer?

Love to Love You Baby

coco sumner lands second love cover.jpgApparently all of the kids in the new LOVE are under the age of 21.

The issue, which hits newstands on August 24th does indeed have two covers, one of which is Sting’s daughter Coco Sumner and the other Alex Hartley, a bass player from Birmingham Katie Grand tells WWD she found online.

In addition to what sounds like the most brilliantly styled high school yearbook, will be more written content. Grand’s appointed Isaac Lock deputy editor to balance out her more visually inclined self - a good idea considering a lack of words was one of the major complaints we heard post-premiere issue.

Grand & Co. will decorate the windows of London’s Marc by Marc stores in honor of the occasion. They’ll also sell limited edition t-shirts plastered with the magazine’s cover, but no word yet on whether anything’s planned stateside. Maybe we’ll throw our own LOVE party.

“Deacon of Fashion”: Elio Berhanyer passed up the opportunity to work for Cristobal Balenciaga and sent a young man named Oscar de la Renta to New York City in his place, but no regrets. At 80-years-old he’s the most respected and apparently feisty Spanish couturier. {NYTimes}

Dirrrrrrty: Depending on where you work, these editorials pulled together by the kids at Refinery may be NSFW. Regardless, they are hot. {Refinery29}

Shop Swap: New York’s Lower East Side and London’s Newburgh Quarter are trading places for a spell in October. We’ll get some of their goodies like Cowshed and they’ll be treated to a full-on American Halloween party and street fair, along with their pop-up shops. {ELLE UK}

Coming Up Magazines

IDEA_BOOKS_IMAGES_email3[1].jpgPop-up shops are all the rage this past year: Target, Puma, Pam Hogg, et cetera. But what about pop-up shops for other things?

Books and magazines to be exact. LOVE blogged that Angela Hill, who manages book selection at Dover Street and Colette in London, yesterday opened a pop up shop of books at St. Martin’s Lane, with a pretty serious collection of vintage fashion magazines (Interview, Ritz and 19 Magazine among others) and some pretty cool art books. It will be around until late August.

We’re green with envy, of course. It seems that so many our cool archival stores have been forced out of business in NYC. And we miss them so. All the more perfect time for a pop-up. Of course, we will then likely become hermits, hidden away while pouring over old issues of The Face and Vogues of all nationalities. But who says that’s a bad thing?

How is Conde Nast UK So Different?

kate moss in love magazine by mert and marcus.jpgObviously, you’re all well aware that Conde Nast UK allowed Katie Grand to create an entirely new and (probably) super expensive magazine for the British arm of Si Newhouse’s publishing empire earlier this year.

It was so unbelievable at first, most people didn’t believe the magazine existed.

And now, WWD’s reporting that Conde Nast UK is issuing their own version of Wired, a magazine we have literally never seen outside of a newsstand or office.

So what gives? If we’re understanding CNBC correctly, the UK isn’t in any better of a situation than the US. So why is it smart to open magazines in the UK but not anywhere else? And does this mean we can expect more fashion glossies out of London?

Stay tuned.

The Post-Fashion Week Fashion News from London

alexander mcqueen and beth ditto mix.jpgYesterday, somewhere in the UK, someone got the last copy of LOVE - That’s right, 67,000 copies have been distributed and sold, making the new glossy one of the fastest selling debut magazines ever.

So with all these people having a naked Beth Ditto on their coffee tables, it’s become the obvious time to launch her clothing range for Evans, that part of the Arcadia group owned by Sir Philip Green which has been described as the Topshop for the “bigger lady”.

Well today I can reveal the collection may be coming sooner than we all thought: I have word that the campaign is being shot in the next couple of weeks and the collection will be in stores late March / early April.

More details to follow from the shoot.

LOVE Gets an Ad, Sets the Date

love magazine advertisement small.jpgTo: Tips@Fashionista.com

From: Page@Flipper.com

Just a quick photo to show you the new LOVE advert in UK Vogue, March 2009.

Don’t know if you got it already but it’s looking promising - I was so confused by the advert I had to take a few looks at Agyness Queen’s picture before I realized what was going on.

Anyway, Enjoy,

P

Strangely, we don’t think this ad does much for Katie’s grand opening, but at least we have a specific date - February 19th!

The Cover Cometh

From: Br(it)Boy@Freemail.com

Hey,

I’ve been told through a friend that the Beth Ditto cover for LOVE is very “ballsy” and like nothing she’s ever done before.

Apparently she got wasted, too, at the POP xmas party. Amazing!

Not sure what that means…but it sounds fun.

I know you’re dying for details about LOVE.

I wish I could tell you about a fabulous shoot full of models in the English countryside.

I can’t.

But I can tell you that Terry Richardson’s shooting Angelica Huston at the Chateau Marmont for Katie’s new mag this week.

Beth Ditto Lands LOVE?

beth ditto at the love party.jpgRumors are swirling that Beth Ditto will grace the first cover of LOVE.

The magazine is slated to launch in February which means Katie Grand might not even know who she’ll put on the cover. But she and her editorial staff threw their first official party in London the other night and Beth was particularly honored.

Her closely cropped bright orange hair only slightly distracted from the fashion scavenger hunt going on during the party, but no one could dig up the answer to the cover question.

We’ve sent Br(it) Boy on the prowl and in the meantime, he says he can confirm an upcoming party and major announcement from Kate Moss.

As for LOVE, we’ll keep our ears open and eyes on the blog.

You, too please.
